FOCUS ON LEED Certification
Stryker Medical has achieved LEED®-EB Certification.
Stryker Medical recently earned a Silver designation in the U.S. Green Building
Council’s Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) for Existing
Building Operation & Maintenance for its manufacturing facility in Portage,
Michigan. Stryker is the first manufacturing company in Michigan to achieve
LEED-EB O&M, and the first company in the medical device manufacturing
industry to earn such a prestigious certification.
Our commitment to a safe, clean environment is as sincere as our commitment
to patients, caregivers and all stakeholders in Stryker. It is expressed by a
determination that influences every aspect of our business policies.
Energy and Materials OptimizationCertified Pre-Owned ProgramThese refurbished products, restored to like-new functionality through a 33-point inspection and repair
process, provide significant savings in energy and materials processing.
High Recycled Steel ContentSteel used in Stryker beds and stretchers is made with 85 percent recycled content. Setting the standard
high helps optimize natural resources and reduces the demand for mining.
Efficient Building OperationsStryker Medical reduced the building energy usage by 27 percent through implementing a building
operations plan, energy audit and retro-commissioning plan.
Design for DisassemblyStryker beds and stretchers are designed for disassembly and recycling at the end of their useful life.
In fact, just five tools are needed to take a Stryker bed down to its basic material components.
Process Control to Reduce Environmental ImpactControl of the Manufacturing EnvironmentStryker manufacturing is monitored and regulated by the FDA, a much higher standard than is
applied to conventional manufacturing.
Green Circuit BoardsAll lead and other harmful materials are being engineered out of Stryker electronic components.
Waste ReductionsThe Stryker Medical waste audit helped identify actual waste stream resulting in the re-use of nearly
30,000 pallets while diverting 35,000 pounds of plastic from landfills.
Environmentally-friendly CoatingsStryker is making extensive use of powder and water-based coatings and retiring solvent-
based processes.
RecyclingStryker is recycling paper products, cardboard, packaging and metals. Delivery vehicles are
loaded in a manner that helps eliminate the need for packaging and optimizes transportation routes
to save fuel.
Land Use ConservationStryker has aggressive programs for conserving resources in land use. The Medical division
reduced irrigation water usage by 57 percent at its Michigan manufacturing plant in 2008, saving
several million gallons of water. In 2009, the company diverted 100 percent of rainwater from the
water sewer system through the use of retention/detention ponds.
Materials DisposalGlass, fluorescent lighting, metals and plastic are recycled and reclaimed.
The Future of Stryker SustainabilityEnvironmental responsibility is a never-ending process and one of our top initiatives. As our
manufacturing facilities evolve toward ever-higher standards of sustainability, we continue to pursue
initiatives that impact our delivery of high quality, cost effective products that positively affect the
environment. Here are a few examples of our ongoing efforts:
• Green Materials Scorecard
• Percentage of Recyclable Materials
• Battery Use and Disposal Standards
• Stryker Standards for Vendors, Contractors and Collaborators
As one of the world’s leading medical technology companies, Stryker is dedicated to helping
healthcare professionals perform their jobs more efficiently while enhancing patient care. We are
focused on achieving this mission in an environmentally responsible way that not only improves
patient outcomes, but helps to reduce the ever-increasing costs of healthcare.

FOCUS ON Stryker Programs and Services
Stryker Medical FLEx Service Plan As part of our commitment to lifetime customer satisfaction,
Stryker offers FLEx, a dynamic maintenance and service
program that allows you to determine a total cost you can
afford. With FLEx, you receive a Stryker Purchasing Card
that gives you access to service and maintenance when you
need it — and only when you need it. Based on your com-
mitment, a tiered discount is applied to all parts, labor, travel
and preventive maintenance checks. You spend only what
you need for current service and can roll over an unused
percentage of funds to the next year. You keep track of all
account activity online so that you have complete control of
costs, can manage projections and plan new acquisitions
as equipment ages.
Implementation Programs Product features such as Protocol Reminders™, elec-
tronic documentation and multi-zone fall prevention
systems save time and improve patient outcomes
but require new behaviors for use. Stryker works with
you in a collaborative approach to installing and
using products.
The Implementation Program is designed to incorporate
your own processes and procedures to ensure your
facility achieves optimal results. The Stryker proactive,
in-depth training begins immediately and continues after
product delivery. Our collaborative teams become the
conduit to institute the new techniques for greater
efficiency and improved patient outcomes.
Certified Pre-Owned Program The Stryker Certified Pre-Owned Program allows the
purchase of gently used med/surg and critical care
beds with top-of-the-line technology at a value price.
Pre-owned products are inspected by Stryker factory-
trained technicians and classified to UL Standard
60601-1. Product inspection includes an extensive
checklist, resulting in the highest quality pre-owned
products possible.
More Than Equipment Stryker is an ongoing resource to its customers,
providing much more than equipment. Stryker
partners with you in creating customized pro-
grams and services to seamlessly integrate your
use of the industry's most advanced products.
Fall Prevention Program The Stryker Fall Prevention Program is designed to combine
technology and education to help hospitals prevent the
risk of bed-related falls. The program focuses on staff edu-
cation of bed-related patient falls and bed exit technology.
It includes a Fall Prevention Tool Kit that provides an over-
view, strategies to implement a program and sample tools.
In addition, Stryker offers a complimentary CEU course on
Fall Prevention. The CEU course is conducted by a certified
HealthStream® presenter who helps raise awareness about
falls and the adverse effects of falls on a facility.
BackSmart® Certification The most important tool to protect caregivers from injury
is knowledge. Stryker is working with Prevent Inc., a premier
safety-training consultancy, to provide on-site BackSmart
training on all Stryker equipment as well as in-depth best
practices to reduce caregiver injuries and lost time.
Training can be designed as part of orientation or to help
with the development of special clinical protocols. Caregivers
receive personal attention and gain competency quickly
through hands-on training. The training includes complete
documentation and follow-up coaching with caregivers to
reinforce the best practices.

FEATURING Stryker Prime
Stryker Prime™
You asked for it. We listened.
You said you need more time.
Up to 50 percent of nurse calls are for patient repositioning.
Experience the electric option on the Stryker Prime Stretcher
with powered lift, knee gatch and backrest. With patient
controls on the siderails, you give your patients more control
of their own comfort and less need to call you for assis-
tance and repositioning.
Prime is the only stretcher on the market with the Stryker
proprietary Chaperone® Stretcher Exit System. To help
address flight risk and patient falls, set one of two zones to
alert you if your patient attempts to leave the stretcher.
Zoom Motorized Drive System on
the Stryker Prime stretcher virtually
eliminates manual pushing.
Lift Assist Backrest uses a drop-seat
design which uses the patient’s weight
to help raise the head of the bed while
cradling the patient to help reduce
boosting.
Electric functionality gives the patient
more control of their own comfort
while making patient positioning as
simple as the touch of a button for
caregivers.
Mobile. Safe. Efficient.
d
You said you need to protect yourself from injury.
Stryker Prime is designed to help reduce or eliminate awk-
ward body positions that can lead to injury by incorporating
ergonomic and electric functionality seamlessly. Powered
Lift Assist™ and powered knee gatch save your body from the
risk of injury. Bending or reaching for controls are minimized.
You said you need options in mobility.
Mobility choices such as the Stryker Fifth Wheel, Stryker
Big Wheel® and motorized Zoom® give you a choice while
reducing stress and strain when moving patients.
The demands on healthcare professionals have never been
greater. When you are faced with doing more, Stryker has
the Prime solution. We listened.

Fall Prevention TechnologyThe exclusive Chaperone Bed Exit System and iBed Awareness System work together as
an enhanced fall prevention tool. When both systems are set and Chaperone is disarmed,
the iBed Awareness feature reminds the caregiver to rearm the bed exit system. The
combination of education and technology can result in safer environments, fewer falls and
lower costs.
iBed Awareness (available on Epic II, S3 and InTouch)
iBed Awareness is a smart bed monitoring sys-
tem that tracks bed status including Head of Bed
angle, brake position, bed height, Chaperone®
Bed Exit System and siderail configuration. The
system is completely customizable based on care-
giver assessment of individual patient safety needs
and provides both local and remote alerts. iBed
Awareness is the only system that allows caregiv-
ers to know at the bedside what has changed,
which helps improve efficiency and compliance.
iBed Protocol Reminders™ (available only on InTouch)
iBed Protocol Reminders function like an electronic
calendar to organize your day by providing prompts
for scheduled critical procedures, such as patient
turns and other preventative interventions. Document
each task directly on InTouch for a record of evidence-
based protocol compliance.
Chaperone Bed Exit System (available on Epic I I, GoBed® I I, S3, InTouch)
Chaperone uses three concentric zones to track the
patient’s center of gravity and will sound an alarm
when 50 percent of the patient’s body weight exits the
zone. Through a direct connection to the nurse call
system or audible alarms, Chaperone helps facilitate
a preventative approach to patient falls.
iBed®
A Preventative Approach to Adverse Events (available on Epic® I I, S3™, InTouch®)
The Stryker iBed system is an advanced monitoring system designed to help
prevent patient falls, pulmonary complications and the incidence of skin breakdown.

Reminders help ensure that best
practices are done consistently.
Human Voice Translations
The bed talks. Thirty-nine clinical
phrases in 24 languages let
you communicate with almost
any patient.
Sound Therapy
Sound therapy creates a soothing
environment that promotes rest and
aids in the recovery process.
Documentation
InTouch remembers critical bed
information. As each Protocol
Reminder comes due, the screen
asks for a YES or ExPLAIN
confirmation. Each response
is instantly recorded.
a
Zoom® The Zoom Motorized Drive System is fully integrated,
meaning fewer transfers to stretchers. Front wheel
drive and a compact wheelbase allow for tighter
turns and greater maneuverability for a safer, more
efficient transport.
Electric Brake InTouch is the only critical care bed that features an
Electric Brake. Located in the control panels on all four
sides of the bed, a single touch locks wheels in both
swivel and rotation.
BackSmart Pivot
As the head of the bed rises, the pivot point moves
through an arc. This subtle motion keeps the patient
from migrating toward the foot of the bed as the fowler
is raised — reducing the need to boost the patient and
saving the caregiver from possible back strain.

Michael Graves with Stryker: Design for a Common Purpose
Michael Graves and his firms are the recipients of more
than 180 prestigious awards and citations for architecture,
interiors and product design. And for good reason. The
Michael Graves Design Group has fashioned more than
1,800 consumer products that have influenced modern
living in ways ranging from subtle to profound.
Mr. Graves’ deep, personal interest in advancing design
within the healthcare environment has most recently lead
him to a partnership with Stryker. Remarkably, the vision
and drives of both companies are strikingly similar.
Together, Stryker and the Michael Graves Design Group
have created a new generation of patient room furnishings
that not only sets the standards in aesthetic excellence,
but more importantly, elevates the human experience within
the healing environment.
