OVERVIEW

This online course teaches fundamental medical coding skills for professional services (physicians, mid-level providers, etc) and prepares the student to take AAPC's CPC® exam. The course covers CPT, HCPCS and ICD-10-CM coding. Assures a broad knowledge in reviewing and assigning the correct procedure and diagnosis codes for professional (physician) services.

As prerequisites for the CPC course, the student will be given 6 weeks to complete Medical Terminology and Human Anatomy and Physiology courses. In the CPC course, the student will learn principles of medical coding related to the three main code books: CPT®, ICD-10-CM Code Set and HCPCS Level II. This course is recommended for anyone who is preparing for a career in medical coding for a physician’s office and strongly recommended for anyone who is preparing for AAPC’s CPC certification examination.

OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this program, you will be well prepared to enter a role in this rewarding, quickly growing healthcare field. Student membership, all required textbooks, workbook, and 2 exam vouchers to take AAPC's CPC® exam are included in this program.

METHODS OF EVALUATION

The instructional methods used include reading assignments, practice exercises and other assignments, audio/video lectures, chapter review exams, and a final exam. To receive a certificate of completion, students must successfully complete the course within the allotted time frame of 6 months or less (monthly extensions may granted). Successful course completion includes:

• An attempt of all required assignments

• A passing score of 70% or higher on all chapter exams

• A passing score of 70% or higher on the final exam

• An overall final course score of 70% or higher

NATIONAL CERTIFICATION DETAILS

This program includes a voucher (2 attempts) for the Certified Professional Coder (CPC®) exam, offered by the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC).

In order to sit for national certification exams, candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent; therefore, it is recommended you have this before enrolling or this program.
