Undercover Drug Operation Nets 84 Indictments - UPDATE 1

As of Wednesday, April 1, thirty-nine of forty persons indicted in the undercover drugoperation have been arrested or were already in jail. These arrests come after months ofhard work by the Special Operations Unit of the Anderson County Sheriff’s Department.Drug cases often take time to come to conclusion. These cases literally took months toinvestigate, make drug buys, and send to the DA’s Office for prosecution. Theinvestigators are to be commended for an outstanding job.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation was once again a vital part of this operation.Sheriff’s investigators and TBI agents worked together in making drug buys on theindividuals involved. Our thanks to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation for their helpduring this investigation.

We wish to thank the Lake City Police Department, the Oliver Springs Police Department,the Oak Ridge Police Department, and the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department for theirassistance in this investigation. This was truly a multi-agency undercover operation.

We also wish to thank the Tennessee Highway Patrol for their help in the arrests. StateTroopers worked along side Sheriff’s Deputies in the round-up. Deputies from the MorganCounty Sheriff’s Department and police officers from the Lake City and Oliver SpringsPolice Departments also assisted in the arrests.

The District Attorney’s Office is to be commended for the long hours preparing andpresenting these cases to the Grand Jury. The DA’s Office assisted investigators from thevery beginning of this operation.

Our thanks also to the Tennessee Methamphetamine Task Force and the CounterdrugTask Force of the Tennessee National Guard for all their assistance throughout thisinvestigation.

We wish to thank those citizens whose tips led us to many of the persons charged in thisoperation. The information provided was instrumental in leading to drug buys and arrestsof these offenders. Several of these individuals were already in jail or in state prison on other charges. Mosthave prior arrest records. There were additional charges placed on several persons whowere found to be in possession of illegal drugs at the time of their arrest.

She was last seen at herresidence, 6901 Terry Drive, near Rutledge Pike, in East Knox County. Investigators from the Sheriff’s Special Operations Unit and agents from the TennesseeBureau of Investigation continued this undercover operation which began in late 2007.Those indicted either sold to undercover agents or were in possession of illegal drugs forresale. These indictments also include charges resulting from meth lab investigations overthe last several months as well as persons who purchased pseudoephedrine in excess ofthe legal limit. These ongoing drug investigations have resulted in the arrest of someeighty-six individuals over the last eighteen months.

Illegal drugs continue to be a priority for the Anderson County Sheriff’s Department.Working with other local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, we will continue topursue those who sell drugs in Anderson County.
