At Sovereign Health, patients are our highest priority. We believe that mental illness, addiction and cognitive deficits are brain diseases that constrain people’s lives, but they do not define them. We see our patients as human beings and honor them for their independent qualities. Our world-class, licensed treatment professionals focus on treating the individual inside.

Sovereign Health’s commitment to each patient begins with a rigorous, comprehensive diagnostic assessment including an evaluation of the patient’s cognitive functioning. We passionately believe that the foundation for every patient’s recovery needs to be a highly comprehensive, individualized and evidence based treatment plan.

Sovereign Health operates nine treatment facilities in five states: California, Arizona, Florida, Texas and Utah. The facilities are licensed and have been awarded Gold Seal accreditation by The Joint Commission, the highest level of accreditation available in the behavioral health field.

PROGRAMS OF SOVEREIGN HEALTHA Better Way to a Better Life

Sovereign Health knows that cognitive impairment places individuals at a higher risk for psychiatric disorders. Our application of neurobiology research, particularly in neuroplasticity, underpins our brain wellness and cognitive retraining approach to recovery.

Upon arrival, a patient’s cognitive and emotional functioning is assessed. Once in treatment, progress is monitored through a process of measurement-based assessments, which allows us to modify interventions in real time.

We use a treatment approach that integrates interpersonal and object relations psychotherapy with motivational interviewing, dialectical behavior therapy and cognitive retraining.

Good mental health requires ongoing maintenance throughout one’s life. We help patients set and accomplish quantifiable goals and offer long-term monitoring of their progress post-treatment through our Telehealth service.

"Sovereign is a brain wellness organization. We believe that the brain’s ability to repair itself is the foundation of recovery from years of substance abuse. By retraining the brain to process triggers differently, rather than avoid them, our patients learn to live in a world that will present challenges and triggers. Our measurement-based treatment approach allows us to use ongoing patient assessments to individualize treatment plans. Sovereign’s commitment to brain wellness is transforming the treatment of dual diagnosis."

Sovereign Health is a leader in the treatment of addiction, mental health disorders and dual diagnosis. Dual diagnosis refers to a mental health condition and substance abuse occurring simultaneously.

Sovereign believes that addiction is a chronic brain disease that may include periods of relapse. It is important to note that repeated relapses after periods of sobriety may indicate the presence of an underlying disorder requiring professional treatment.

At Sovereign Health, we specialize in the complex assessment and multidisciplinary care required to successfully treat patients who are struggling with dual diagnosis. Our behavioral health team of master- and doctoral-level therapists are uniquely qualified to treat the mental health conditions that often accompany substance abuse.

The Eating Disorders Program at Sovereign Health helps instill hope and belief that there is a better way to deal with the stresses of life. Our priority is to help patients discover a way to live without the focus on food and body image. Eating disorders are life-threatening. Completing treatment is only the beginning of the recovery process from addiction and mental illnesses. The transition back to life outside of treatment can be challenging and the temptation to relapse can be overwhelming. Most people in early recovery have very busy schedules which may prevent them from attending scheduled meetings or appointments but skipping therapy sessions can be dangerous and derail treatment. Having a specialized therapist who is only a click away helps ensure continued success.

You can now talk to a Sovereign Health trained professional remotely!

connect with a clinician.

Telehealth allows patients to receive counseling via a

The Way on Behavioral Health CareStigma, bias and ignorance are not the only problems facing behavioral health care providers and their patients. This six-part series will explore financial, legal and systemic barriers that prevent people who require treatment from receiving the quality care they deserve.

Recovery Next DoorTo combat mental illness stigma, “Recovery Next Door” offers inspirational stories of recovery and hope as a way to promote the acceptance and support of people with behavioral health conditions in the local community.

Sovereign Health Launches the First Editorial in a New Impactful Three-Part News Series on U-4Sovereign Health, a leading national provider of behavioral health treatment services, has launched a new three-part series, “Uncovering U-4.” Also known as U-47700 or Pink, U-4 is an opioid analgesic drug, and experts warn the public not to be fooled by its easy accessibility.

Measurement-based care: Does behavioral health care measure up?Measurement-based care (MBC) uses validated symptom scales completed by patients and reviewed by clinicians during therapeutic encounters. In a recently released Issue Brief, titled “Fixing Mental Health Care in America: A National Call for Measurement Based Care in Behavioral Health and Primary Care,” experts at The Kennedy Forum stated, “Measurement based care will help providers determine whether the treatment is working and facilitate treatment adjustments, consultations, or referrals for higher intensity services when patients are not improving as expected.”

Binge drinking increases effectiveness in directing attention to alcohol cues, says studyPeople are well aware of the numerous and adverse effects of alcohol, yet many continue to drink, with some even indulging in binge drinking. A recent study has suggested that alcohol use and its effect can alter the way information is processed in the brain.
