after a spectacular year for athletics in 2012, we are pleased that the event tasked with keeping up the momentum our sport has on the continent is the european Athletics Indoor Championships 2013 in gothenburg.

It is the first major athletics championships since the Helsinki 2012 european Athletics

Championships and London 2012 olympic games, and promises to be the latest in a line of memorable athletics events.

gothenburg can boast of an excellent tradition in sport. It hosted the european Athletics Championships in 2006 – a hugely successful event that saw sell-out crowds every evening contributing to a fantastic atmosphere.

It is the fourth time the european Athletics Indoor Championships are taking place in Sweden, with the Scandinavium Arena claim-ing its hat-trick of hosting the prestigious event after championships held there in 1974 and 1984. Stockholm’s ericsson globe also hosted the event in 1996.

the sheer interest in athletics at this moment in time will ensure that the eyes of europe and the world will be trained on gothenburg the whole weekend. I am confident the

television audiences will be strong, the media interest high, and the discussions between athletics fans across social net-works particularly strong.

I know from my many visits to gothenburg that its people love athletics and sport in general and I have no doubt that they will fill the Scandinavium for the three days of the championships, to ensure they catch a glimpse of many of the stars we saw in action in 2012.

Aside from enjoying the best that europe has to offer in terms of athletics, I am also looking forward to the “All under one roof” experience that the championships promise, with all manner of activities open to the public throughout the event.

on behalf of the Local organising Committee (LoC), I would like to welcome all media representatives to the european Athletics Indoor Championships. It will be the third time that we have hosted this event in gothenburg. this time we can offer a new and

unique concept for the event – All under one roof – which we believe will be a benefit for everyone.

As part of its international strategy, the Swedish Athletic Association wants to be a regular host of international events, since this gives an opportunity to promote athl e-tics to young people and adults, the media, politicians, the general public and sponsors. As former general Secretary of the european Athletics Championships 2006, I know from my personal experience how a major event can leverage the sport of athletics.

we are therefore proud that european Athletics has given us the opportunity to host the 2013 european Athletics Indoor Championships. the championships will be a great opportunity for Sweden’s national team to once again compete in front of their enthusiastic and knowledgeable home crowd.

5.1 General inforMationthe LoC will provide transport services to all accredited guests with transport rights. transport services will only cover the official routes related to the competition. full details of the transport services and transfer schedules will be displayed and handled at the Information desks located in the Media hotels.

5.2 arrivalAt the official airport (gothenburg-Landvetter Airport) there will be a welcome desk at the international luggage pick-up and an Information desk outside Customs, in the international terminal, where all arriving guests will be assisted with transport to the of-ficial hotels.

there will be clear signage from the domestic terminal to the Information desk, for those guests coming from domestic locations. both cars and shuttle buses will depart just outside the international terminal.

5.3 dePartureArrangements will be made to meet the demands for the departures. guests will depart from either the official Media hotels or the event Venue. Confirmation of departure times will be requested upon arrival at the hotel. Any changes must be reported to the Information desk at least 48 hours prior to the scheduled departure.

7.2 Media restaurantthe media restaurant, MIX, offers a lunch buffet with three main courses: meat, fish and vegetarian. bread, butter and a generous salad buffet are included as well as tea/coffee. MIX is located next to the public entrance, 100 metres from the Media Centre, at the Swedish exhibition & Congress Centre.

7.3 Media tribunethe media tribune has well-equipped desk seating for approximately 120 journalists plus commentary positions for tV and Radio, and an additional 100 non-equipped seats. there will be a dedicated seating plan drawn up by european Athletics and the LoC for the desk positions. Access to the non-equipped seats will be on a first come, first served basis.

7.4 Mixed zonethe mixed zone is located below the stand at the only point of exit for the athletes upon completion of their event. Access for media is via a dedicated stairway from the media tribune at section o, below the commentary positions. Host broadcaster and rights-holding television and radio have the opportunity to speak to the athletes first, followed by the written media.

7.6 Press conferencethe official Championship press conference will be held on thursday 28 february at 14:00 at the Victory Ceremony podium in the Market Square, the Swedish exhibition & Congress Centre. entrance is through the Media Centre or through the public entrance. Accreditation badge or press credentials compulsory. there are no automatic press con-ferences planned following each final.

7.7 Press lunchthe City of gothenburg will host a press lunch before the official press conference on thursday 28 february at 13:00 in the Market Square food court. If you wish to attend, please email in advance to: [email protected]

7.8 oMeGa Media racethe press is invited to participate in an 800m race on Sunday 3 March between sessions. entries are made in the Media Centre and should include name, country and personal best.

8.1 PhotoGraPhers’ facilitiesthe Photographers’ Room with work spaces is located in the Scandinavium Arena, clearly signposted below section d close to the Athletes’ entrance. there will be refreshments and camera repair service available.

Additional work spaces can be found in the Media Centre. there will be no film devel-opment facilities. LoC photo staff will be on hand to answer any questions.

8.2 PhotoGraPhers’ Positionsthe number of photographers allowed onto the infield during the competition is very limited. each infield photographer will be provided with a photographer’s bib which will be given to another photographer when they are not in the infield.

there will be sites all around the inner field for photographers to take pictures during the event. Photographers will be able to move freely around the arena and use free seats as long as they don’t obstruct the view of the spectators.

10.2 scandinaviuM arenathe Scandinavium Arena is the second largest indoor arena in Sweden and accommodatessporting events, concerts, shows, exhibitions, trade fairs and corporate functions. the arena was built in 1971 and receives over 700,000 visitors every year.

the european Athletics Indoor Championship was held here in 1974 and 1984, and in 1979 there was actually a marathon race inside the arena. the winner finished the 138 laps in 2.28.

At the events it serves, oMegA is also re-sponsible for the competitor displays for the athletes and their support teams along

with the public displays to spectators at each venue. the official results are also de-livered in real time to broadcast, network and print media who in turn relay results and commentary to remote audiences around the world.

every year, oMegA’s experts deploy teams of timekeeping professionals to sporting events around the world, armed with a veritable arsenal of advanced sports time-keeping and measurement equipment. their innovative systems include starting blocks and false-start detection systems and the latest photo-finish cameras for the sprints and middle-distance events, as well as height and distance measurement devices for field disciplines.

12.1 Market squarethe Market Square will be open from 28 february – 3 March in the Swedish exhibition & Congress Centre under the same roof as the Scandinavium. the Market Square is an exciting gathering place where visitors can watch, learn and try out different activities.

International and national partners and exhibitors are joined by third parties, official merchandising shops, and entertainment as well as a food court area offering a variety of food and beverages. the victory ceremonies and the Shot Put Qualification, for both men and women, will be held at the Market Square.

for men and women will be held in a shot put circle at the Market

Square. the men’s qualification will take place on thursday 28 february

and the women’s qualification on Saturday 2 March.

the european Athletics Indoor Championships will be working closely with various partners to

provide a playful and imaginative area for families to try out different

athletics events in the Market Square.

food & drinkA great choice of food and drink

will be available in the Market Square. Visitors will be able to

get breakfast, lunch and coffee, with the emphasis on organic and

fairtrade products.

ski cornerthe biathlon world Cup, nordic world Ski Championships and Vasaloppet ski

marathon will also be taking place during the event. dedicated sports followers

will be able to follow the winter sports competitions on big screens during the

session breaks.
