1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

In my magazine, I have used my features, which are

conventional to magazine. The masthead is at the top of the page, where it is usually located. I have many cover lines and a central image. My main cover line is in a bigger font that the other text, and another colour. I did that to draw attention to the magazine for the audiences. Most music magazines use either or both of these techniques, including the two that I have featured,

House style The house style for Q magazine is

always the same, this is for regular buyers to recognise it. Most magazine also use this techniuiq so the audiences can easaly see which magazine it is.

On my magazine I made my own house style to make my buyers recognise it.

2. How does your media product represent particular social groups?

The immediate dominant representation of people listening to old classic, pop and rock is often, ecspessially in the rock genre gives people the ideas of drug taking, drinking, rebellious, powerful people who smash instruments up and act extreme. In my opinion this stereotype is not reality. I think the media brought this on.

Rock stars representation

Look ”I dont care type

of look” Has always been

informal trashy. Only care about

the music

Example AC/DC

Rock star representation

The attitutde They do whatever

they want Rock star attitude

is supposed to be crazy portraying that they dont care what others think.

Music The music has to fit

the image and the attitude.

It has to be crazy Band needs to show

their movemnets on the stage o the audiences will not be bored.

Representation However the target audience for my

magazine are also those who listen to old classic and pop.

Those who like old classic are often represented as music nerds.

My magazine doesn’t focus on one special genre, it appeals to most sort of music fans in general

3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

The media institution that I would want to publish my magazine would be Bauer. They are very big and well known. The company has a lot of magazines that target various segments of the market including some very niche markets such as fishing. Their portfolio covers a very wide range of markets which shows the diversity of the company and means that thy are very successful as they own more than 80 magazines. They are one of the leading media institution in UK. Another reason is that I think it would help me to appeal to my target audience.

4. Who would be the audience for your media product? I want the magazine to

have high quality and many things included.

High price (3.50) Suit to all music lovers Slightly older target

audiences, because of price.

Majority of older people that can afford to buy it.

I believe that my target audience would be 16+ because of the variety.

However I think the group of younger readers is smaller.

I asked people from different age groups what they were looking for in a magazine and tried to include it in my magazine

Carmen (60) Ilaria (17)

5.How did you attract/address your audience?

Main image Direct mode of adress

I used direct mode of adress on my main image, because I wanted the artist to stimulate a interaction with the viewer. The artist is psitioned looking straight at the reader. Alomost every magazine uses a direct mode of adress in their main image,

Costume and props I used props and costume on my images as codes for the

audience to interpret the genre of my music magazine I made my artist wear black and white costume with a

classic look. To show different variety in my magazine I also had an

image on my front cover playing on a violin on the street, which is opposite to other images on my front cover. I think this might attack larger group of target audiences.

Q magazine also has this variety of different artists and - they talk about artist that made impact in the past, and also about new artists and new releases.

Superlatives and register In my magazine I used

superlatives such as ”excusive” to help to attrack the audiences as it makes the magazine seem more trustworthy and interesting.

These are also used in other magazines on the front cover to draw attention to the magazine and to attrackt the audience

The register I used in my magazine was apprapriate for my target audience. I used formal language, which can be understood by all kind of music fans.

Use of colour By using colour like red I made my magazine eye-

catching and therefore attractive. I think its important to stand out in the front cover, to

help consumers purchase the magazine. Consumers will chose to purchase the mose eye-

catching magazine In the rock/pop magazines I have looked at like the Q

magazine use red as the main colour in their chosen colour scheme, because it easily draws attention.

My main image is in black and white and I used gold to make it look classic

I did that to reach to my target audience group.

Picture examples: use of colour and direct mode of adress
