Yellow Phone Music Conference – Milwaukee Sept. 5-8, 2013 Watch out Austin, Milwaukee is making a name in the music industry with this weekend-long event showcasing musicians, seminars, concerts, agents, and music fans from around the country. www.yellowphonemke.com U.S. Disabled National Sailing Championship – Milwaukee Sept. 5-8, 2013 The Milwaukee Community Sailing Center (MCSC) has been selected to host the 2013 U.S. Disabled National Championship by U.S. Sailing, the national governing body for the sport of sailing. It is the only national championship for disabled sailors and features 45 registered competitors including medalists from the previous Paralympic games. The four-day event will include a racing clinic on Thursday with races on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Villa Louis Carriage Classic – Prairie du Chien Sept. 7-8, 2013 Transport yourself into the 1800s at the Villa Louis Carriage Classic, an elegant family affair. Watch gallant horses pull beautifully restored carriages at one of the nation’s largest carriage driving competitions. This event takes place on the lawns of the Villa Louis country estate and is a spectacle for all. Thelma Week – Fond du Lac Sept. 10-14, 2013 Thelma Sadoff Center for the Arts will open its doors in downtown Fond du Lac with Thelma week, a five-day celebration of the center’s grand opening. Thelma week kicks off with a fundraiser dinner on Saturday, followed by an auction and dance. Other offerings throughout the week include art workshops, free art exhibits, outdoor film screenings and a rousing Montgomery Gentry concert. 920-921-5410; www.thelmaarts.org Wo-Zha-Wa Days Fall Festival – Wisconsin Dells Sept. 13-15, 2013 There’s no better way to end your summer than at the Wisconsin Dells, so make sure to visit the Wo-Zha-Wa Days Fall Festival. Appropriately named for the Ho-Chunk phrase “to have fun,” there is entertainment for the entire family. With carnival rides, food stands, sidewalk sales, an antique craft fair and 100-unit parade, this event is definitely worth the trip. 1-800-22-DELLS; www.wisdells.com Chequamegon Fat Tire Festival – Cable & Hayward Sept. 13-15, 2013 As the largest off-road bicycle event in the U.S., the Chequamegon Fat Tire marathon brings approximately 2,100 cyclers through a rigorous 40-mile course of forest roads and wooded lanes. Another 1,000 riders participate in the Short and Fat, a 16-mile off-road race. Sunday Funday offers a day of family fun with activities like bicycle limbo and a children’s bicycle rodeo. Other activities include live entertainment, hundreds of miles of trails, the Rough Stuff Poker Ride and Cable Crit-Cross obstacle lap race. Running of the Llamas – Hammond Sept. 14, 2013 Forget horse races, dog races or even pig races, because this underdog is taking the lead-llama races! That’s right – at Running of the Llamas locals and visitors alike cheer on the competitive llama racing that fills the main street of Hammond. This festival has become such a favorite that Running of the Llama T-shirts are available for purchase year-round. The event also includes a llama parade and rib fest after the race. www.therunningofthellamas.com Maple Fall Fest – Marshfield Sept. 14-15, 2013 Here comes one of Wisconsin’s sweetest festivals. With two days devoted purely to maple, you’re sure to find something delicious here. Spend the weekend indulging in maple treats, maple dessert and syrup judging contests, a pancake breakfast and more. There will also be music, arts and craft vendors, Amish specialties, a beer garden and countless other reasons to celebrate. This year there will be guest appearances by TV personalities Mad Dog and Merrill who will feature maple grilling specialties at the fest.
