to Headline Variety’s Dinner with the Stars April 27th
Variety Welcomes Back Joe Buck as the Evening’s Emcee
WHAT: Variety the Children’s Charity of St. Louis will celebrate more than 80 years of helping St.
Louis kids with disabilities as Variety Week 2013 culminates with the most anticipated
social event of the year, the Dinner with the Stars black tie gala. Variety is pleased to
announce that, music legend Santana will headline at the Dinner with the Stars and Joe
Buck will return as Emcee! The dinner and concert will be held at the Peabody Opera
House, and the entire cost will be underwritten by World Wide Technology, Centene
Corporation and the Steward Family Foundation; meaning all the money raised will go
to Variety Kids. Variety thanks Ron and Cheri
Fromm, Brown Shoe Company, and David Steward
whose special relationship with Carlos made his
appearance possible. Variety Week is the pillar
fundraising and awareness campaign for the
charity.
WHO: For forty years and as many albums later, Santana
has sold more than 90 million records and reached
more than 100 million fans at concerts worldwide.
To date, Santana has won ten Grammy® Awards,
including a record-‐tying nine for a single project, 1999’s Supernatural (including Album
of the Year and Record of the Year for “Smooth”). He has also received Billboard
Century Award (1996), Santana was ushered into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (1998);
and, the Billboard Latin Music Awards’ Lifetime Achievement honor (2009). Among
many other honors, Carlos Santana has also been cited by Rolling Stone as #15 on their
list of the “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time.” Celebrating the chart debut of Guitar
Heaven… The Greatest Guitar Classics of All Time (Arista) in 2010, Santana joined the
ranks of the Rolling Stones as the only musical act in chart history to score at least one
Top 10 album in every decade beginning with the 1960s. He is also currently headlining
at a two-‐year residency at House of Blues at Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas.
Carlos Santana has devoted himself to a lifelong commitment to social activism and
humanitarian causes. The Milagro Foundation, originally established by Carlos Santana
and his family in 1998, has granted more than five million dollars to non-‐profit programs
supporting underserved children and youth in the areas of arts, education and health.
Fox Sports’ Joe Buck returns this year as Emcee, and this year marks Marilyn Fox’s 16th
year as Dinner with the Stars Chairman. Variety will honor Edward Jones managing
partner, Jim Weddle as Variety’s 2013 Man of the Year and Noémi Neidorff as Variety’s
2013 Woman of the Year.

About Variety Week Variety Week kicks off on April 20st with the Variety Runway Lights Fashion Show featuring celebrity designer Edward Wilkerson, of Lafayette 148, and continues with the Fox 2/News 11 Call-‐A-‐Thon for Kids (April 23), the Imo’s for Kids Day (April 24), the Young Variety Night of the Rising Stars (April 26) and ends with the most anticipated social event of the year, and the Dinner with the Stars black tie gala (April 27). Last year’s Dinner with the Stars, featuring singer Diana Ross, raised a record-‐breaking $1.4 million for Variety. In 2012, Variety Week raised $4.6 million for St. Louis children with physical and developmental disabilities. Every dollar raised during Variety Week stays in St. Louis to purchase vital medical equipment and fund specialized programs for the more than 14,500 families Variety serves each year.
