Google, YouTube, IMDB, Wikipedia

The internet has been a vital resource through the production of our film, because it allows me to research current media and therefore improve my own. Researching using Google provides me with information that I needed to consider when making the film such as, the target audience or the common conventions that work in the media business today. YouTube has been very helpful for researching and analysing current trailers which provided inspiration for my product. YouTube also aided me in using some of the computer programs in production. The use of IMDB which has information about nearly every film has allowed to try and see if the use of big name stars, gives the film a better rating in order to use this in our film by naming the actor which may attract the audience. This leads to more sales and bigger profits. Understanding the production process and common conventions by use of these websites has lead to our trailer being extensively more improved than it possibly would have been.

Blogger, Slideshare, Facebook

I obviously used blog to record my progress and display my ideas throughout this project. It has been very useful for myself to keep track of things I have done, things I have to do and things I may have done that I didn’t need. It has been easy to present initial ideas to people and potentially getting feedback. Slideshare, I have used to apply my powerpoints to my blog which has been a great way to present ideas, research and evaluation. I found it very easy to use and will use it in the future. I used Facebook to get feedback from friends and family for both ancillary products and our trailer. This was very useful because my friends age are the target audience so being able to approach them directly really helped towards the production.

Mac computer and Panasonic camera

For filming, we used a Panasonic camera which was very good for filming because it had great maneuverability and was very good quality. We used the Mac computers for editing the film and logging and transferring the clips were very easy on the Panasonic camera. Using the Macs allowed us to edit the clips coherently to make the best possible trailer.

Computer programs

Final Cut Express was the main program we used throughout production because it is where all the clips were edited and sequenced together. It's where the whole trailer is put together; cuts, effects and transitions were all added on this program.

Using livetype for my project was not my first experience with it but I was not very familiar with it. This lead to lots of trial and error practice idents and intertitles. When I got to grips with it, I found that it was reasonably easy to use and therefore could make simple intertitles that we needed to break up some longer clips in our movie trailer.

I only used photoshop once throughout the project which was to crop an image. I did this using the selection tool which i had used before in previous subjects so I had a slight understanding of how to use it. This was useful because it made the job a lot quicker and easier so we could get on with other things.

I used InDesign for both ancillary products in our project. The program allows you to arrange text and images in ways that are other programs do not so that the design is highly professional. The two ancillary products we did were; a film poster and a magazine front cover.
