Background:

The District is bounded on East by Warangal and Nalgonda Districts, on the

South by Rangareddy district, on the West by Bidar district of Karnataka State and

on the North by Nizamabad District. The main river of the District is Manjeera.

Medak district is a backward district with more than eighty percent of the

population dependenton agriculture. It has a low literacy rate and low per capita

income. Industrialization is confined to a few pockets, nearer to Hyderbad. Main

crops grown in the district are rice, maize sugarcane, jowar and chillies. A large

quantity of maize and sugar cane are available for industrial exploitation. Cultivation

of aromatic plants is being encourages. There is surplus fruit in the district like

Mango, Papain for industrial use. The district has a good poulty population and

significant eff production. Sericulture is mainly confined to Siddipet region, but

offers scope for development in other areas too. Manual deposits are not many.

Quarry, Quartz and sand are found. Handlooms sector is lagging behind because of

not implementing new techniques, which can be found in Pochampalli, Bhongir and

Nalgonda district.

WATER:

Medak district is highly dependent upon mansoon for water. Due to

insufficient rains, the districts Main source of water is ground water. As use of water

by the industrial sector is only a small percentage of the total water consumption,

units in the district may not face any problems of water shortage. Drinking water

Majeera barrage and Singoor Reservoir is supplied to the Industrial Areas of

Patancheru, Ramachandrapuram. There is a proposal with the state government for

supply of Majeera Water to the Zaheerabad Town and Industrial units.

The district has poor irrigation facilities; Hence, DRIP irrigation is identified as

a thrust area. The Department of Horticulture envisages covering 36000 acres under

DRIP irrigation during the period 1999-2004. However water is supplied from

Manjeera Barrage to Ghanpur Ayacut for irrigation purpose.

RAILWAY NETWORK:

Medak is a part of Railway Infrastructure covering the total railway route of

69 KMs (approx.) as mentioned below:

to huge wastage of the crop. There are very few fruit processing units in the district

to process the fruit produced. Mango, Guava and Orange producted here are

marketed in the district and in the state capital. Mangoes are also exported. The

department of Horticulture and A.P. Marketing Federation can assist in export of

mangoes.

There are six market yards in the district at Siddipet, Medak Jogipet,

Sanareddy, Sadasivpet and Zaheerabad. One cold storage under private sector has

come up at Peddapur village of Sadasivpet Mandal

ROAD TRANSPORT:

Medak district has good network of raods the national high way No.9

connecting Hyderabad to Mumbai passes through the district, thereby connecting

Hyderabad to Places in Karnataka and Maharastra. Other highways that pass

through the district Hyderabad – Nagapur National Highway and Hyderabad –

Karimnagar state Highway.

Automobile Corridor: Sangareddy to Zaheerabad:- The Medak district is

strategically located very close to the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad.

Any place of this district is within 100 KMs from the twin cities. In view of the

proposed large truck project of M/s Mahindra and Mahindra in Zaheerabad, there is

lot of scope for Ancillaries in the Automobile Sector. At present M/s Mahindra and

Mahindra for their present manufacturing facilities has about 15 Nos. of units as their

Ancillaries in and around Zaheerabad.

The following industries viz. Body Fabrication, Clutch Plates, Gear Box, Leaf Springs,

Fibre Components, indicator meters etc. have potential.

M/s APIIC had earlier identified 190 acres of land in Zaheerabad and subdivision of

land is yet to be taken up. However it is understood that APIIC is not going ahead

with this proposal as there is no water source. Bidar Town of Karnataka State is

about 8 KM away from the Plant of M/s Mahindra & Mahindra. And there is good

water supply in Bidar. The Government may have to make arrangement for water for

the proposed industrial estate, as it is feared that units ancillary to M/s Mahindra &

Mahindra Ltd., may come in Bidar of Karnataka State.

FOOD AND AGRO BASED INDUSTRIES: The District Administration has distributed

about 25404.21acres of waste land to the landless poor. The District administration

has already motivated the 23524 beneficiaries of these waste lands to go in for

cultivation of non-conventional crops like Medicinal Plants, Bio-diesel Plants like

Jetropa, Pungomia, Sweet Shorgam, Neem etc. There is good potential for agro

processing industries like Bio-diesel producing units, medicines extraction &

Preparations, neem seed processing, corn based products.

ANCILLARIES TO PUBLIC SECTOR / UNDERTAKINGS: The Public Sector units (BHEL,

Ordnance Factory & BDL) are to some extent supporting the local industries by

procuring their requirements from the units located within the district/State. The list

of products / items procured from outside the state is obtained and the same can be

suggested to entrepreneurs. Vendor development programmes will be organized with

these public sector units and win-win situation will be created between the PSU and

the SSI units and the entrepreneurs will be encouraged to take up those

products/items which the PSU’s are procuring from outside the state.

Page 17: Medak

APPAREL PARK, PASHAMAILARAM: APIIC has around 175 acres of land in

Pashamailaram out of which 50 acres are allotted to M/s Padma Power Loom. As on

date an amount of Rs. 188.00 Lakhs is spent for of development infrastructure like

roads and power in this an area of 50 acres. It is reliably learnt that the Central

Government has rejected M/s Padma Power loom proposal. Hence in this semi

developed area an apparel/textile park can be developed / encouraged.

INFORMATION & TECHNOLOGY PARK: It may be pertinent to note that

Ramchandrapuram and Patancheru Muncipalities are proposed to merged into

Greater Hyderabad. The Hitech city is well connected by ‘4’ lane road and the

Ramchandrapuram and Patancheru Municipalities located on the Mumbai High Way

are within 15 KMs. Hence these areas are well suitable for IT Parks / Units.

NEW INDUSTRIAL ESTATES: APIIC has presently identified places at Phase-II,

Patancheru for 3.5 acres & IDA Pashamylaram, Patancheru for 200 Acres for

development of Industrial Estates.
