In total, we had 29 responses from students who have purchased the Meals in Advance Deal.

Meals in Advance gives students the opportunity to pre-purchase their breakfasts and/or dinners on a term by term basis. They can have breakfast and/or dinner at any of the 4 outlets on campus (Piazza, Derwent, Vanbrugh or Roger Kirk Centre).

How did you hear about the Meals in Advance Deal?

We asked the Meals in Advance customers how they found out about the scheme, and 69% said they had seen it on the University of York website. The least common answer was social media, with no customers choosing this option.

What is the main reason you chose the Meals in Advance Deal?

In 2019 we asked Meals in Advance customers the same question. The most popular answer was convenience, followed by help with budgeting. This year, 69% of respondents said they choose the scheme for convenience, 21% said they chose the scheme as they would prefer not to cook and the final 10% were split between help with budgeting and contribution towards cost.

On a scale of 0 to 10 how likely are you to recommend the Meals in Advance Deal to a colleague or friend?

We can see from these results that most of the customers would promote the Meals in Advance scheme to colleagues or friends. Over 69% of all customers have answered 7 or above and less than 7% answered 0-1. The most popular answers were 7, 8, 9 and 10, followed by 6.

Was Catered Accommodation your first choice?

We were happy to see that only 24% of respondents answered yes to this, suggesting that they chose the Meals in Advance scheme as a consequence of not being granted Catered Accommodation. The remaining 76% of respondents actively opted in to receiving the Meals in Advance Package.

If you were applying again, which catering option would you choose?

We asked this question to gauge if the respondents would choose the scheme again. 66% of the customers said they would choose Meals in Advance again, which is an increase on the previous years’ 59%. The second most popular answer was self-catered, where 21% of respondents said they would choose this option if given the choice again. The final 13% were split between Catered Accommodation and College Nights.

Overall how satisfied are you with the following?

We added this question to our survey this year to find out if students felt the application processwas smooth, and if they also felt like their queries / problems were dealt with effectively before andduring their time in this scheme.

This question had a mostly positive response, with the most common answer being ‘satisfied’.52% of respondents said they were satisfied with the ease of initial payment into thescheme, and only 7% said they were very unsatisfied or unsatisfied.

Overall how satisfied are you with the following aspects of breakfast service?

In the 2019 survey results around 20% of respondents said they were either unsatisfied or very unsatisfied with opening times, which is very similar to this years response at 21%.

From the previous survey, over 55% were either satisfied or very satisfied with the size of portions, in comparison to this years results which show 55%.

The graph below also shows that 24% of respondents were very unsatisfied or unsatisfied with menu variety, which is a 14% rise compared to last year.

Quality of food has consistent figures, with 55% satisfied or very satisfied customers in 2019 and 52% in 2020.

Overall how satisfied are you with the following aspects of dinner service?

In the 2019 survey over 50% of respondents were either satisfied or very satisfied with all of the areas in question. We can see from the graph below that this has stayed the same for all areas, except menu variety. This year 24% of respondents were either very unsatisfied or unsatisfied, 14% were indifferent and 45% were either satisfied or very satisfied. The other 21% of respondents said this question was not applicable to them, meaning they only had the breakfast deal.

In 2019 menu variety had the most negative responses with 19% unsatisfied and 5% very unsatisfied. This year 20% of responses said they were unsatisfied, and 7% said they were very unsatisfied, showing a slight increase in the negative figures.

Overall how satisfied are you with the following aspects of service?

In 2019 respondents answered positively in all areas, but staff friendliness received the highest level of satisfaction, with over 80% saying they were satisfied or very satisfied, this year showed a slight increase to 83%.

Staff efficiency received 79% positive responses, speed of service and cleanliness of facilities received 83% of positive responses.

If you have any specific dietary requirements, have we managed to meet your needs?

In 2018 74% of respondents said their requirements had been met, this was similar to the 2019 results of 70%.

In the 2020 survey, we found that 91% of respondents felt their dietary requirements have been met. This is a huge increase of 21% from the 2019 survey.

Have you noticed any themed menus?

We asked all respondents if they had noticed any themed menus throughout the first term such asHalloween and Christmas.

We had a positive response with 90% saying they had noticed, compared to 10% sayingthey had not. This is a slight decrease from 2019 where 95% said they had noticed themed menus and only 5% saying they had not.

Which of the following themed menus would appeal to you?

In 2019, the most sought after themed menu was Italian (73%) followed by Christmas (65%). This years results show Christmas is now the most poular choice, with 76% followed by Italian with 62%.
