ATTENDANCE DESK
Did You Know? Kids should stay home when they are truly sick, however many kids miss
school when they aren’t truly sick. A stomachache, or headache is sometimes a sign of
anxiety and is not a reason to stay home.
Here’s How You Can Help:
If there is no fever and no other signs of a true sickness (throwing up, diarrhea) then send your
child to school.
If your child is feeling ill in the morning, but feels better later (and doesn’t have the symptoms
above) then bring them to school for the rest of the day. A partial day of school is better than no
school at all.
If aches are being caused by anxiety toward school please contact your child’s teacher,
counselor, or principal to ask what they can do to help assist your child to feel more comfortable
at school.

SWEET STRINGS!
On Thursday, March 10th, the 6th grade orchestra will be joining other orchestras in the
area to perform together. They will rehearse in the morning and then perform that
evening. The concert will be at Kent Phoenix Academy. Students should arrive at 6:30 pm
and the concert will start at 7:00 pm. Families are welcome to attend. Permission slips are due by
Friday, March 4th.
GOT A DOCTOR / DENTIST APPOINTMENT? BRING A NOTE!
If your child is absent due to a doctor/dentist appointment, your child must have a
doctor / dentist note when they return. Students without notes will receive an unexcused
absence.
RANGERS ASSEMBLE!
On January 28th, we had an assembly to celebrate perfect attendance, positive behavior, roll
out our newest Ranger Rally, and dance.
TECH FAIR 2016 WAS AMAZING!
This year Meadow Ridge had two booths, one from Ms. Kalmbach’s class, and the other from
Mr. Baugh’s class. Both groups did an outstanding job demonstrating how they utilize
technology in their classrooms and entertaining visitors at their booths.
THANK YOU JANUARY LUNCH LEADERS!
The January Lunch Leaders were outstanding! We had two
groups this month helping out in the cafeteria and they’ve all
been great mentors to our youngest students.

MAKE SURE YOU GET PLENTY OF ZZZZZ’S
Sleep is a vital need, essential to a child’s health and growth. Sleep promotes alertness,
memory and performance. Children who get enough sleep are more likely to function better
and are less prone to behavioral problems and moodiness. That is why it is important for
parents to start early and help their children develop good sleep habits. How much sleep
should my child get?
Age Hours Of Sleep
0 - 2 months 10.5 - 18
2 - 12 months 14 - 15
1 - 3 years 12 - 14
3 - 5 years 11 - 13
5 - 12 years 10 - 11
For more information about the importance of sleep and helpful tips for how to help your
children at bedtime, check out http://www.sleepforkids.org/html/sheet.html.
RANGERS ROCK BEING POLITE!
Every morning our Rangers make a pledge. “Today I pledge, to be respectful, responsible,
ready to learn, and to be safe.” This month in some of their classes they’ve been discussing
what it means to be respectful starting with learning about verbal manners. They and their
teachers brainstormed a list of polite things they can say every day and here is part of the list
they created:
Please
Thank You
You’re Welcome
Excuse Me
Pardon Me
May I…
I’m very sorry / Please forgive me
I forgive you

A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE HELPS YOU FEEL
GREAT!
Eating well and being active each day forms
the base of a healthy lifestyle.
Everyone needs to remember to stay active.
We all went to get at least 60 minutes of
activity every day. At recess and after school
kids can have fun with active play. Adults can
stay active too—take a walk, take the stairs,
park further away and take a few more steps.
Balancing the foods we eat with the activity
we do makes for a healthy lifestyle. Habits
that start in childhood are usually the same
habits we have as adults. Help your children
get started with healthy habits to last a life-
time.
