The MSB established Camp T more than 40 years ago, naming the camp for the senses used by its visitors: touch (tuh), smell (sme), hear (he), and taste (ta). Camp T provides a fun and safe outdoor learning environment for all students and offers events for families throughout the year. The camp is also open to education groups that wish to take advantage of its beautiful, natural setting. www.camptuhsmeheta.org

CAMP TUHSMEHETA

Camp Tuhsmeheta located in Greenville, is an extension of MDE-LIO. The MSB established Camp T more than 40 years ago, naming the camp for the senses used by its visitors: touch (tuh), smell (sme), hear (he), and taste (ta).

MDE-LIOMISSION

To provide consultation, guidance, training, and resources to families and educational teams serving students who are Blind or Visually Impaired (BVI) and/or Deaf or Hard of Hearing (DHH).

VISION

To ensure equal access to a quality education for all students who are BVI and/or DHH.

RESOURCES PROVIDED

• Assistive technology products and devices toborrow and use with students

• Braille and enlarged print book production

• Leisure braille books for students in pre-Kthrough high school

• Scholarships for eligible students to attendapproved programs and events

• Mini grants for eligible district programming

• Resource library, including professionalreference materials, informational guides andtools, and assessment kits

OUTREACH SERVICES

MDE-LIO offers a range of workshops, conferences, and other events for school personnel and families on topics such as:

• Braille• American Sign Language• Assistive technology• Independent living skills• Expanded core curriculum• Literacy

Education consultants provide outreach support for families and school districts serving students who are BVI and/or DHH in areas such as:

• Early childhood• Career education/transition• Communication• Orientation and mobility• Multiple impairments• Neurological visual impairment
