Student Handbook Planners

There are many ways to help your student be successful in middle school. One great tool to use is the student planner. Students are expected to carry it with them to all classes every day throughout the school year. The use of planners encourages communication with your son/daughter on a daily basis about the events of the day. Each student is asked to write down a brief description of what activities took place in each class as well as any assignments. Parental support and involvement is critical in helping students throughout their middle school years. Checking your son/daughter’s planner will show you care, and will assist them with organizational skills, and help support their teachers.

Included in the planner is the student handbook, which informs students of school expectations, school policies, information on clubs and activities, student behavioral consequences, and hall/library passes.

Through the use of a planner, students learn about time management, goal setting, study skills, keeping track of assignments and recording grades. Student planner usage is a lifelong skill we hope all of our students will perfect.

Planners will be available for $5.00 at Ready, Set, Go! or on the first day of school. *Payment can be: FeePay, cash or check.

Please mail or drop off completed form to: ISD 194 Student Nutrition, 8670 210th Street West, Lakeville, MN 55044.

Student Pickup and Drop Off

Parent morning drop off will be in the front of the building. Two lines are formed, with “one way” traffic, in the front of MMS. Afternoon pickup will be by the pool doors in the back of the building. Please do not pickup or drop off your child in the north parking lot.

Attendance Policy

Please take this opportunity to review the McGuire Middle School Procedures about taking your child out of school early during the school day. The procedures can be found in the student planner.

Please send a note with your student on the day you will pick them up early. Students should bring the note to the Attendance office. A parent or guardian must sign out students.

This procedure eliminates interruption of classes, and lengthy wait time for students when their classes are following a different schedule for the day.

We understand sending a note with your child is not always possible. Medical appointments are sometimes made after a child has left for school. In this situation, please call 952-232-2218 as soon as you have the time for leaving school early.

If the need arises for someone other than a parent /guardian to pickup your child, please notify the school in writing. Also, provide a phone number where you can be reached so that we can verify this information.

We appreciate your help in keeping interruptions in the classroom to a minimum and keeping our students safe.

Protection and Privacy of Public Records

Annually, parents/guardians are given public notice of ISD 194 District Policy D-80 (E-70) Protection and Privacy of Public Records. The 515 Protection & Privacy of Student Records policy can be found on the ISD 194 website: http://www.isd194.k12.mn.us/pages/Lakeville_SD/Board_of_Education/Approved_Policies/6362185553016819970/500_STUDENTS. If you would like to request that directory information on your child not be released, please complete Form A (on website). The form must be completed each year and submitted by September 15 to the Office of Human Resources/Administrative Services. If you have any questions, please contact Mary Knutson @ 952-232-2006.

Welcome to Our 2015-16 New Staff!

The following new staff members will be joining the MMS team. Please make them welcome to our McGuire family!

Mr. Michael Johnson, Vocal Music Ms. DeAnn Haugland, Office Manager Mr. Chad Klopp, Dean of Students Mr. Kevin Leifeld, Night Lead Custodian Ms. Mysha, Service Dog Ms. Kaitlyn Sevilla, EPIC Ms. Jamie Stockwell, ELA-6

Mr. Chad Klopp 6th Grade Dean & 8th Grade A-L Dean

I am so happy to be working at McGuire Middle School! I graduated from Augsburg College with a Bachelor of Arts in History and completed my Master of Arts and my Administrative License through Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota. This will be my first year working for Lakeville Public Schools and I feel very fortunate to be part of such a dynamic district. When I am not working, my favorite thing to do is spend time with my family. My wife and I have three children and enjoy spending time together cooking, going to the North Shore, and exploring the many great restaurants in Minneapolis and St. Paul.

Mysha – MMS Service Dog

Mysha is our new service dog at McGuire Middle School. She will be working with our students who need her the most. Mysha is 15 months old and very well trained. She

can turn on lights, open doors and sense low blood sugar levels for those individuals with diabetes. We are excited to have Mysha with us working her magic with kids.

Ms. DeAnn Haugland New Office Manager

McGuire Families, It will be my pleasure serving the staff and families of McGuire Middle School. I transferred from Lakeville South so I bring a lot of Cougar pride with me! My husband and I settled in Farmington after he retired from the U.S. Navy. We grew up in a very small ND town so this area was a great fit for us. Our two grown daughters have blessed us with five grandchildren. There is never a dull moment at our house! Spending time with our grands, quilting, knitting, and sewing are a few things that keep me busy away from work. As I start my 26th year in education, I want to thank you for sharing your children with us. I look forward to getting to MMS families.

New! Visitor Management System

Lakeville Area Public Schools has installed a new Access Control System in our building. The District selected the AiPhone IX Series, an integrated intercom, video camera, and badge printer system, which is currently being used in multiple school districts across the metro. Its visitor management system will allow the District to track visitors to buildings and the purpose for their visit in a database. The improved access controls will provide students and staff with a heightened level of safety and security through individual visitor control.

Good news! The system is very easy to use. Located in the front entry is a Welcome Center Visitor Check In Center. You will swipe your driver’s license in the appropriate slot and a person from the administration office will greet you via the intercom. A visitor badge will print from the visitor center and the door will be unlocked for your entry. Please remember to swipe your license on the way out to check out of the system. Here is a link to watch how easy it really is! http://www.isd194.k12.mn.us/pages/Lakeville_SD/Departments/Security_Emergency_Management/Visitor_Management_System

FeePay

The Lakeville Area Public School District is transitioning to a new online registration system called FeePay. You will be able to make online McGuire purchases including: middle school sports & activity payments, field trips, back-to-school purchases, Community Education classes, etc. A one-stop shop! Once the account profile set-up process is complete, you are ready for future online registrations. Please keep an eye out for upcoming communications to get you rolling!
