Alumni
Dinner 2014
Tentatively set for
Friday, July 4
Our Scholarship fund (Vanguard Wellington) is at $64,460. Last year’s total was $53,000. This is the first time
that the total has been over $60,000! Last year was also a first – over $50,000. We are improving!
Our operating checking account (day to day bills) is at $2,076.
Donations last year were approximately $6,200.
The dinner cost was approximately $3,400. The alumni dinner does not make any money. It is a break-even
endeavor for camaraderie.
We have not awarded over $70,000 in scholarships since 1998. Even though $70,000 might sound lofty, that
sum only pays two years of tuition at a medium tier private college. It is a different world out there in post-
secondary education; costs are just crazy compared to my days. My parents paid $3,500 out of pocket for four
years at Oberlin College. I have nephews and younger colleagues with medical-dental school debts of over
$100,000. Mine was $20,000. So my plea is this, if you can, please be generous. However, we will never turn
down any donation as every bit helps!
An alumni association is very different from a parent booster club --- the alumni association helps people other
than our own children.
Thank you for your past and future generosity!

Reunions this year
at Alumni Dinner:
1968 & 1978
Reunion Info Class of ‘68 will be celebrating their 45th reunion.
If you know of someone who is a member of the
Class of ‘68, please tell them about the reunion. If
you have any questions concerning this event contact
Carol Carkido Scirocco at 330-530-4890 or by email:
Traditionally, this letter has provided me the opportunity to relate to you events that have occurred in the past year
involving the McDonald Local Schools and the Alumni Association. This year, I would like to get your thoughts
and ideas regarding some specific matters concerning the Alumni Association.
Contributions – Annually we receive contributions for the scholarship fund approximating $5,000.
We would like to increase the giving level to build up the size of the scholarship fund. What do you
think would be the best way to increase our annual scholarship contributions?
E-mail addresses – We would like to increase sending this publication by e-mail to help minimize
our postage expenses and ensure that it is received as many people as possible. How can we best
obtain the e-mail addresses of as many of our members as possible?
Lost Classmates – We lack contact information for several members of each graduating class. What
would be the best way to obtain this information?
Reunion Classes – Each year, we provide special recognition for reunion classes (classes whose
anniversaries end in a number divisible by 5 (20th, 25th, 30th, 35th, etc.)) at the dinner meeting for the
Alumni Association. What should we do to increase the level of participation by reunion classes?
I would love to hear your thoughts and ideas on these matters. Please don’t hesitate to contact me at
[email protected] or personally at this year’s Alumni Association dinner. I hope to hear from you soon.
Always a Blue Devil,
John M. Saganich, President
Class of 1975
Class of ‘78 will be celebrating their 35th reunion. For
more information, contact Karen Dye by email: kagold-
The website: www.friendsofmhs.com is no longer the McDonald Alumni website. The website still exists, but is not operated by us. If you make a donation to this website, your donation does not go to the MHS Alumni account.
If you plan on attending any of the reunions, you
will need to send in the registration form on page 5.

Class of 2000 Scholarship Recipient— Jenny Green Borgens
Jenny graduated from Kent State in December 2004 with a
double major in Biology and Psychology. While studying at
Kent, she worked at Six Flags Worlds of Adventure for the
Education and Conservation Department. After college, Jen-
ny completed an animal training internship at the National
Aquarium in Baltimore allowing her to work with Bottlenose
Dolphins. Jenny interviewed with SeaWorld San Antonio,
and being a former Royal Swan and a certified SCUBA div-
er, she passed the swim test. Jenny moved to San Antonio
and was an animal trainer at SeaWorld for 6 years where she
worked with Killer Whales, Pacific White-sided Dolphins,
Beluga Whales, and California Sea Lions. Jenny took educa-
tion classes and became a certified teacher in Texas. Jenny
continues to live San Antonio with her husband, Bart, a San
Antonio Police Officer, and their dog, Kooper. She is now a
teacher for Northside Independent School District. In her
free time, Jenny enjoys the outdoors, trying different Tex-
Mex restaurants, and spending time with family. She is a
cancer survivor and spends time raising awareness about
melanoma.
