Boys Basketball JV Record: 15-4 Varsity Record: 18-6

Coaches: Jarrod Weiss, Jabe Wurtz, Ryan Kness, Grant Jackson

It was a season of many great accomplishments for the 2019/20 boys basketball team. With a record of 18-6, it was the best record in thirty plus years. We finished third overall in the CRC regular season with a record of 10-2 and placed fourth in the conference tournament. We also beat Thayer Central and BDS for the sub-district Stle, and lost to a quality Osmond team in the district final. We were thrilled to get to a district Stle game for the first Sme in many years as well. The boys success was an extension from all the success they had experienced throughout the fall season in Cross Country and Football. I want to thank Dana Hobbs and Cole Stahr for their efforts and commitment to the program. They will be missed, however not forgoZen. They have helped set the foundaSon for future teams. I also want to thank the rest of the team for their work and dedicaSon throughout. Thank you to the administraSon and the community for their support as well. Last, but not least I want to thank Coach Wurtz, Coach Kness, and Coach Jackson for all their Sme and effort they put in to this years team.

Football

The 2019 football team had many wonderful and exci9ng achievements. First, they set a school record by going undefeated in the regular season. Second, they made it all the way to the state finals, something that has never been done before in school history. We also finished up as the 2nd ranked team in Class D-6. The team finished in the top 5 in total offense and defense in the state. We also had many players that received mul9ple post season honors. I couldn’t be more proud of the boys. They worked extremely hard to accomplish their goals. It started way back in May with a full summer of weight room ac9vi9es and condi9oning. As August began and prac9ces started going, I was encouraged by what I saw on the prac9ce field. We started the season off by geOng a forfeit win over Hampton then bea9ng HLHF, who ended up being a really good football team. It was aRer that game that I felt we had a chance to do some special things throughout the season. Next followed wins over Santee, Silver Lake, Sterling, Deshler, Lewiston, and we closed out the regular season with a win over Dorchester. As we entered playoff 9me, we had the honor of being published in the New York Times. A gal came out and spent two days with the team and followed us un9l the end of the Crawford game. She came away very impressed with the community, the school, and the team. It is an incredible honor and privilege to be no9ced in such a pres9gious paper as such. We ended up bea9ng Crawford, Eus9s-Farnam in the second round and then Cody-Kilgore in the semi-finals. We had a great bonding trip out to Cody as we leR on a Thursday and stayed in Valen9ne the night before the game. The boys had a great 9me and they played extremely well against Cody-Kilgore. I was in awe of the fan support we had that traveled over five hours to come and support the team. In the finals we lost to Harvard 50-33. I thought the boys baYled and fought hard throughout the game, it just wasn’t enough in the end, however like we told them aRerwards, there are a lot of teams that would have loved to be in our posi9on. They made their school and their town very happy with what they accomplished this season. This will be a season that will never be forgoYen as this group of guys will be forever indented in McCool Jct. history. I want to say thank you to Coach Yates, Coach Hobbs, Coach Wurtz, and Coach Arduser for all the 9me they have put into making this season a success. Also thank you to the coaches families as they did a tremendous job suppor9ng the team throughout the season. Also thank you to our parents who provided the meals for the team, I appreciated their willingness to help out when called upon. You went above and beyond the call of duty. Also thank you to Dave Birt, Mark Ellis, Jeff Germer, Paul Coffey, and the administra9on for their help and support.

Girls Basketball

This season was a major step in the right direction for our team! We had to battle through a lot of tests mentally and physically since we were a very young team. Physically we only returned three players from last year's roster: Sophia, Ashley, and Raelin (missing Maegan unfortunately this season). This was a major hurdle to overcome, but our younger girls stepped in to fill these gaps. We enjoyed getting three "bonus" seniors, Madison, Alysa, and Yom, this year that had never been a part of our program before. They brought a ton of effort, leadership, and heart to our team. Each one of these three seniors will be missed greatly! Our junior girls: Ashley, Raelin, Sophia, Sarah, Olivia, Alyssa, and Maegan, became our basketball leaders this year. They were the group that had the most experience with varsity basketball, but also showed huge improvements throughout our year. We are excited to see what hardwork and determination will bring for this group next year! Our underclassmen, Carryna, Zarina, Chelsea, Jadon, Brooke, and Payton, have been great additions to our team in the last two years. This group has a desire to get better and they had to jump in this year to play a large amount of varsity minutes! Mentally, all of these ladies are developing as better basketball players and evolving into better leaders.

This past year has been such a growing and learning experience for everyone. We have had players step into new roles, find new strengths, and learned how much this is a team sport. The girls have given us some great laughs and we will miss our seniors that we had such a short bme with. The hope is to look to the future and to grow together as a team and bringing the best out in each other.
