One of your duties will be to circulate books and other information objects to patrons while you staff the desk. The circulation desk is the location in each library where you check-out/in, renew items, ask about missing items, or inquire about fines. To open the Millennium Circulation System1. double-click the “Innovative Millennium” button located on the computer desktop2. at username prompt, enter ‘your username’3. at password prompt, enter ‘your password’4. click the ‘OK’ button

To Check-Out Books:1. click the ‘Circulation Desk’ button on the left side of the screen2. scan the patron’s card3. scan the barcode of the book4. close out of the patron’s record by hitting the ‘close’ button at the upper right of the screen

Click the “Close” button when finished with the patron’s account:

Review:

Check-Out item(s)1. Chose Circulation Desk on the left 2. Slide patron’s Cougar ID or under certain circumstances, insert patron’s name (last, first)

following the letter “n” for name to pull up patron’s record3. Scan book’s barcode4. Remember to close the record when finished

To Check-In Books:1. click the ‘Check-In’ button on the left side of the screen2. scan the barcode of each item to be checked-in

B. Check-In Item(s)1. Choose the Check-In function on the left 2. Scan books barcode3. Sensitize books (Do not sensitize or Desensitize Videos)4. Place books on the wooden cart in CALL Number order

To View Patron’s Checked-Out Items1. click the ‘Circulation Desk’ button on the left side of the screen2. scan the patron’s card3. click the ‘Checked-Out Items’ tab (all checked-out items will be displayed automatically)

To Renew Books1. click the ‘Circulation Desk’ button on the left side of the screen2. scan the patron’s card3. click the ‘Checked-Out Items’ tab4. ask patron which items he/she would like to renew5. click the small box to the left of the title(s) to be renewed6. click the “Renew” button

Ask patron which item(s) they would like to renewClick small box to the left of the item to be renewed

1. Circulation Desk allows you to check books out, update patron records, check to see what the patron has checked out, see what fines are assessed on their account, see what books they have on hold or recall.

2. Circulation Desk also allows you to check books in, set them in transit to another location, clear missing status, satisfy holds and recalls, and waive fines.

3. When you swipe the Cougar 1 Card, etc., a patron record will display with a partial record showing an expiration date. The expiration is important to remember. It tells you if the patron has paid their fees. A RED expiry date means the patron has not paid their fees and do not have any privileges!

This PowerPoint module only scratches the surface of the Millennium Circulation System, and is intended only as a brief overview of the system’s most basic features.

More advanced circulation procedures will be addressed in future PowerPoint modules.
