Dave Maynard, senior vice
president of sales at Tremco
Construction Products Group,
and Chip Blome, national
merchandising manager of
exteriors at L&W Supply, have
been elected to the EIMA
Board of Directors. Mr.
Maynard will hold the seat for
the Dryvit brand, and Mr.
Blome is taking one of the
two seats reserved for distrib-
utor members. Mr. Maynard
is replacing Mike Murphy of
Dryvit who retired at the end
of May, and Mr. Blome is

operate as the pandemic con-

publication of jobsite sugges-

resource can be found on
EIMA’s COVID-19 resource
page, which has compiled a
list of suggestions from anec-
dotal sources of how an EIFS
applicator can accommodate
an improved worksite.
“Since March, EIMA has been
advocating to states, the Na-
tional Governors Association,
and Congressional leadership,
to allow the construction in-
dustry the ability to continue
their operations,” said David
Johnston, Executive Direc-
tor/CEO for EIMA. “These sug-
gestions continue with our
priority of getting our industry

(OSHA) and those of the local
health department in the juris-
diction in which the project is
located. Conditions vary from
site to site. Prepare to spend
extra time on almost all tasks.

The New York City Department
of Buildings has not, to date,
issued any decision on the
mediation between the parties
who advocate for the safe use
of energy-saving combustible
materials on the exterior of
buildings and those who op-
pose this proven technology.
The whole matter started with
the routine review and revision
to the New York City building
code in 2017 when opponents
to the use of plastic materials
on the exterior of buildings
proposed severe restrictions to
these materials, in essence,
banning them from use in New
York City. EIMA is strongly
supporting a coalition led by

ASHRAE A DVA N C ES A I R BA RR IER PROV I S IO NS I N 90 .1 STA N DAR D The Envelope Subcommittee
of the ASHRAE 90.1 Standing
Standard Project Committee
is advancing an addendum to
the standard that updates
many of its definitions and
inserts a new additional test
method for measuring air
leakage. Essentially, the ad-
dendum deals with whole
building air leakage and is
not so much focused on prod-
ucts. The types of air barriers
are not mentioned so any
material (i.e., fluid-applied,
building wraps, self-adhered
membranes, etc.) can be
used, provided the whole
building meets the leakage
performance requirements
and the air barrier meets the
key definitions in the stand-
ard.
Bill Egan of the Bill Egan
Group has done a quick anal-
ysis of the proposal and says
that the specified whole
building air leakage require-
ment is significantly less than
the code requirements for the
air barrier material itself.
Presumably, all manufactur-
ers that have fluid-applied
air/water-resistive barriers
should have tested and met
the air barrier material code
requirements and have prod-
ucts/systems that meet the
definition. He does not antici-
pate issues with compliance
from a product/material per-
spective. EIMA sits on the
Envelope Subcommittee as a
consultant.

in honor of Marianna Brown

The joint committee meeting

EIMA LAUNCHES RESOURCE SERIES
Earlier this year, EIMA launched a series to provide helpful information during the onset of the COVID-19 pan-demic. Many contractors and others were out of work or saw their workload greatly diminished. As EIMA advocat-ed with other organizations to
get these individuals safely back to work, tools were being supplied to members that helped answer common ques-tions. How to apply for the PPP? What organizations was EIMA reaching out to? Where to find PPE?
This information became the foundation for the COVID-19 resource page that has since launched on the EIMA website. As the popularity of these mes-sages continued to grow, a bi-weekly resource series has continued with industry specific information to help members on a variety of fronts. The recent series targets differ-ent segments of the construc-tion industry and focuses on providing guidance to mem-bers. Insurance, contractor issues, and courses and publi-cations, have all been featured. More will follow as an in-creased focus on educating the EIFS industry and others re-mains a priority.
EIFS Briefs
Following up on the successful 2020 EIMA Annual Meeting at
the Omni Plantation Resort in Amelia Island, Florida, record-ings of the most popular ses-
sions have been released on the EIMA YouTube channel for public viewing.
Among these are David Dolnick’s presenta-
tion, Positioning Your Firm To Meet The Changing Insurance Market, which takes a look at
insurance market cycles, cur-rent insurance markets, and how to mitigate potential im-
pacts. Dolnick (President, Dolnick Risk Advisors) is well-regarded in the insurance
market and has been recog-nized multiple times for his knowledge and commitment to
the industry. In 1998, he was honored as the “Heart of RIMS,” and in 2011 received
the IRMI Words of Wisdom (WOW) Award.
EIMA’s General Counsel Jeff Gilmore (Chair of law firm
Akerman’s Construction Prac-tice) was another featured speaker during the recent
2020 EIMA Annual Meeting. He provided insights into sev-eral of the more significant
financial matters that are affected by the contract. Top-ics like paid when paid and
paid if paid were presented, as well as how to avoid the

pitfalls in these types of situa-
tions. The matter of retention, or retained percentage as it is frequently called, was dis-
cussed along with the situa-tions that can occur when a contractor or subcontractor is
attempting to secure final payment.
The EIMA YouTube channel now showcases 28 videos that support industry initiatives.
EIMA PARTICIPATES IN “MONDAY MORNINGS WITH MASTER WALL”
Since late March, Brian
Conroy and Grant Smithwick
of EIMA member manufactur-
ing firm Master Wall, Inc.,
have welcomed guests to an
educational question/answer
session with industry profes-
sionals every Monday morn-
ing. What has been
coined Monday Mornings
with Master Wall, recently
featured EIMA’s Director of
Public Affairs, Scott Robin-
son.
The invitation provided EIMA
the opportunity to highlight
the value of membership and
how the association has
helped remove barriers on the
industry. Key discussion top-
ics included mutually benefit-
ing from becoming a member,
advocacy efforts across the
United State, how EIMA has
been responding to changes
in the insurance market, and
the current environment.
Previous guests of Monday
Mornings with Master
Wall included a host of EIMA
members, such as Plastic
Components, Clark Dietrich,
and Dow Construction Chemi-
cals.
