Established in 1931, Mayfield Junior School has been committed to cultivating the hearts and minds of children for over 80 years. Each summer we are delighted to open our beautiful campus to boys and girls from all schools in Pasadena and surrounding communities. Summer Program 2016 is designed to accommodate the needs of busy families with flexible scheduling and a variety of options that cater to a wide range of interests. Our instructors will help students develop their own personalities and voices through love of play, creativity and collaboration.

• Registration opens February 5, 2016.

• Online registration payment must be made by credit card.

• In-person registration assistance and campus tours available Monday through Friday from 10 am – 6 pm, by appointment.

• In-person registration payment by check or cash must be made upon registration.

• All balances due on or before June 1, 2016.

• Grade level refers to the grade student will be entering Fall 2016.

TUITION AND FEES

• There is a one-time Registration Fee of $50.

• There are no materials fees for any courses!

• PK-K School Readiness Program is $1,800 for Morning Block, and $900 for Afternoon Block.

• Elementary Program is $240 per 3-week course, and $480 per 6-week course.

• There is a fee of $25 per course change.

• There is no tuition prorating for missed days.

Summer Time Fun!

Ms. Mari Agundez | Ages 3 yrs. 5 months – 4 yrs. 5 months and fully toilet-trained children entering a Pre-K program in Fall ‘16Period 1-4: 8:15 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. | Session C (6 week course)

Children will learn to appreciate the beauty of books as they practice their listening skills in a quiet and comfortable setting. Social skills will improve as we share our time and talents. There will be wonderful arts and crafts, music, rhythm and movements, stories from around the world, snacks, quiet rest-time, outdoor play, creative and dramatic play. Note: This class is a full morning program, consisting of four hours. $1,800

Ready... Set... Go!

Ms. Janet Hale | Ages 4 yrs. 6 months – 5 yrs. 6 months. Children entering Kindergarten in Fall ’16.Period 1-4: 8:15 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. | Session C (6 week course)

This class is designed for Kindergarten candidates to create a smooth transition into the sometimes-overwhelming place called “Big School.” Through a developmental approach, students will have fun with creative and language arts, expand gross and fine motor skills, improve social skills and explore dramatic play. Note: This class is a full morning program, consisting of four hours. $1,800

Afternoon Cruise

Ms. Marcie Durazo | Ages 3 yrs. 5 months – 5 yrs. 6 months. Children entering a Pre-K program or Kindergarten in Fall ‘16Period 5-6: 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. | Session C (6 week course)

Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten students will go on an Afternoon Cruise! Students can bask in a day of games, storytelling, cooking, outdoor play, artwork, music and movement. Our captain of creativity will provide children with a daily dose of imagination and adventure! Note: This class is a full afternoon program, consisting of two hours. $900

Reading & Writing Connection I

Mrs. Julie Serrato | Grade 1Period 3: 10:30 - 11:30 | Session C (6 week course)

Give your child a “leg up” in the wonderful world of first grade through this fun-filled reading and writing course! This course is designed for emerging readers and writers who will begin to understand the basic features of select letter patterns and learn how to translate them into spoken language by using phonics, syllabication and word parts.

Reading & Writing Connection II

Mrs. Katie Delgado | Grades 2 - 3Period 3: 10:30 - 11:30 | Session C (6 week course)

Students will enhance their reading and writing skills by learning to listen, think, read, and make predictions. They will also build their vocabulary through student friendly word building exercises. Through books and story activities, students will deepen their reading comprehension, enhancing their writing skills. Sentence structure, punctuation, story elements and more will be covered in this six-week course.

You’re an Author

The intent of this is course is to allow students to experiment with many different forms of writing and connect these forms to literature whenever possible. This will include poetry, fairy tales and personal narratives.

Reading Comprehension and Skills

This course will offer students the opportunity to improve their reading comprehension and skills, including inference, similes/idioms, and author’s purpose. Students will read aloud, independently and listen to recordings of text.

Elementary Speech Workshop

Mrs. Laura Garcia | Grades 3 - 4Period 4: 11:30 - 12:30 | Session BIn this class, students will learn various tools of public speech such as voice quality, tone articulation, pronunciation, eye contact and body gestures to make an effective presentation. Students will take these newly learned skills and deliver speech presentations for debate, duo interpretation story telling, and individual poetry presentation. You’ll be surprised just how much your child will grow in this challenging and fun course!

Create @ the Book Cafe

Mr. John Guyer | Grades 1 - 5Period 2: 9:15 - 10:15 | Session AStudents will explore themes and concepts from various notable books and then create different book themed projects. Projects will include creating book covers, painting scenes, using Strip Designer to storyboard a book and other various projects that students will take home and enjoy.

History Booster: Colonial Quest

Mr. John Guyer | Grades 3 - 5Period 2: 9:15 - 10:15 | Session BTake a quest back to the Colonial period in American History. This class will utilize apps on iPads to engage in history lessons and concepts. In the end students will write one short essay and one longer essay on what they have learned about History!

Che Bella Vita!

Ms. Laura Sidoti Period 1: 8:15 - 9:15 | Session B | Grades 1-2Period 2: 9:15-10:15 | Session B | Grades 3-5Students will experience Italy for the summer without having to get on an airplane! They will have a five senses experience: they will speak the language and hear each other engage in Italian, see works of art, majestic landscapes and special locations only known to natives of Italy, make food they can bring home and share, and learn about Italian culture, history and lifestyle that is so dearly loved across the U.S.

Spanish Immersion

Ms. Marcie Durazo | Grades 1 - 2Period 2: 9:15 - 10:15 | Session A & B This is great for beginning Spanish students or students who don’t want to forget what they learned during the school year. Students will learn Spanish in a fun and engaging manner through skits, songs, games and continuous speaking exercises during class time.

Building Blocks

This course will motivate children to learn basic math concepts and develop math skills through cooperative problem-solving and hands-on activities. Students will use pattern blocks, geo-boards, tiles, tangrams, games and puzzles, and participate in engaging activities with money, time, and estimating, with emphasis on developing number sense. Through Building Blocks, students will develop their critical thinking skills for self-confidence and success in math!

Math Attack

Join us for an exciting, hands-on, fun-filled summer of math challenges. Students will be given a grade-level diagnostic test at the beginning of the summer session and then placed in an academically appropriate section. We will be using cooperative problem- solving, tangrams, pattern blocks, games and puzzles—all designed to help develop math skills. Learning will take place through activities, math center groups and one-on-one instruction.

Reach and Review

The intent of this course is to offer a “reach” into new material for incoming fourth graders and a “review” of material for incoming fifth graders. Students will cover addition/subtraction of large numbers, multiplication and division, geometry, estimation, and word problems.

Secret Formulas

Mrs. Erika Sears | Grades 2 - 5Period 3: 10:30 - 11:30 | Session AStudents will become laboratory scientists and creative inventors as they make their own paste, toothpaste, cola, ice cream and cookies. Students will then use iPads to create print and video advertisements for these unique products! These carefully designed activities will convey key STEAM concepts, provide highly motivating real life experiences with chemistry, and build understanding of cause and effect.

STEAM Girls

Mrs. Erika Sears | Grades 3 - 5Period 4: 11:30 - 12:30 | Session AGo full STEAM ahead! Students will be inspired by women in STEAM fields and explore a variety of topics including coding, robotics, engineering and more. Students will follow their passion and create their own STEAM project. Girls, your future starts here!

Planetary: Our Solar System and Beyond!

Ms. Myv Hopton | Grades 1 - 3Period 1: 8:15 - 9:15 | Session BStudents will learn about our solar system and galaxy, as well as NASA space missions like the Mars Rover and the Rosetta robotic space probe. We will also explore some of the new theories and discoveries about black holes, super novae and distant planets that may support life! Computer tutorials, games and fun hands-on will keep young astronomers curious and engaged.

Goo Yuck!

Mrs. Nichole Mercado | Grades 1 - 4Period 3: 10 :30 - 11:30 | Session A & BThis class is perfect for those who love the mushy, slimy and oozy things of science. Goo Yuck! will allow the young mad scientist in children to take on the yuckiest, gooiest and grossest of all scientific phenomena. Whether it is slimy polymers, smelly body functions or strange animal habits, students will be laughing and maybe even eating an experiment as he/she learns science.

Oceanography: From the Reef to the Deep

Ms. Myv Hopton| Grades 1 - 3Period 2: 9:15 – 10:15 | Session BExplore the amazing underwater world that takes up most of our planet’s surface! Students will learn about different marine creatures that call coral reefs their home like the prickly sea urchin, the graceful and dangerous jellyfish and the majestic sea turtle as well as some ocean favorites like whales, dolphins, sharks and bioluminescent creatures who generate their own light! Marine conservation will be an ongoing theme in this course where fun hands-on activities let students merge art and science.

Come Fly With Me

Mrs. Nichole Mercado| Grades 1 - 2Period 4: 11:30 – 12:30 | Session A & BFlight is a wondrous feat, which is why it’s so fun to lift-off! Students will create paper airplanes, kites and use balloons in this class to study principles of flight, among them, aerodynamics, lift, thrust and buoyancy.

Junior Paleontologists

Mr. Ryan Horton| Grades 1 - 2Period 1: 8:15 – 9:15 | Session AExplore the lost world of dinosaurs. Students will become dinosaur detectives as they study the lost world and examine different theories of how and why these giants went extinct and much more through fun stories, crafts and hands-on projects.

American Girl

Mrs. Nichole Mercado | Grades 1 - 3 Period 1: 8:15 - 9:15 | Session A & BThis course is designed to give students an understanding of what life was like during different eras in United States history. Students will read American Girl short stories, make crafts, sample foods from different time periods, and even watch and discuss a few of the movies. So bring an American Girl doll and explore history together. Feel free to take both sessions as each will focus on the lives of different historical characters.

Around the World

Ms. Marcie Durazo | Grades 1 - 5 Period 3: 10:30 – 11:30 | Session ATake a trip around the world as we explore different countries. Each week, students will learn about a new country through stories, art, and cooking! Experience the countries language and culture as students explore what it is like to live there!

Manners Matter

Ms. Marcie Durazo | Grades 1 - 5 Period 3: 10:30 – 11:30 | Session BManners are an important character aspect that is utilized everyday. Students will learn essential life and social skills from simple polite phrases to dining table etiquette. These skills will be reinforced through fun games and activities, including a practice meal for students at the end of the session.

In this class students will be taught the game of chess based on their level of play and receive professional feedback and instruction. Explore different tactics, compete and improve chess skills here!

Happy Healthy Yummy!

Aimee Art Productions | Grades 1 - 5Period 4: 11:30-12:30 | Sessions A & BWant to encourage your child to eat healthier? Look no further! Students will cook dishes inspired by local, seasonal produce from Farmer’s markets as well as travel through cuisine found in South America, the Caribbean and Europe. Students will taste new flavors, experiment with unique combinations and fall in love with produce!

Tasty Bites

Aimee Art Productions | Grades 1 - 5Period 5: 1:00-2:00 | Sessions A & BStudents will taste samples from each class and also receive recipes and class curriculum to take home to share with their families. Students will learn basic cooking techniques, kitchen safety, and how to follow recipe directions. Class instruction includes fun food facts, experiments and the preparations of fresh seasonal produce.

Cooking with Character

Students will explore what makes food special and how it can be enhanced through special combinations and cooking techniques. Gotta’ Catch ‘em All

Mr. John Guyer | Grades 1 - 5Period 5: 1:00 - 2:00 | Session AStudents will enjoy his/her favorite trading card games ranging from Pokémon, to Yu-Gi-Oh, to Magic the Gathering. Students will learn to play the games and will engage in trading card tournaments with their friends, developing critical thinking skills and good sportsmanship. At the end of each session, students will receive their very own playing card deck to take home.

Junior Engineers: Lego® Mania

Bricks 4 Kidz | Grades 1 - 2Period 5: 1:00-2:00 | Session A & BLearn all about concepts of engineering and architecture using step-by-step model plans in an open and friendly environment. Students will be using simple motorized models and explore their imaginations with new projects each week.

One week of each, Bee-Bots, Lego We-Dos and Lego EV3. This hands-on class is great for students who enjoy building and creating.

Crazy for Keyboarding

Ms. Adrienne Bononi | Grades 2 - 5Period 4: 11:30 – 12:30 | Session BThe lost art of keyboarding is an essential skill for every student as they navigate

this technology-infused world. In Crazy for Keyboarding students will learn correct posture and hand position while focusing on typing speed and accuracy. Course will include typing on a traditional keyboard as well as a touch pad.

Woodworking

Side Street Projects | Grades 1 - 5Period 1: 8:15 - 9:15 | Session A & B Period 2: 9:15 - 10:15 | Session A & BClasses are held in brightly colored “mobile” classrooms: renovated transit buses that house 10 woodworking stations custom made for children. Each station is equipped with hand tools, adjustable workbenches, supplies and materials—everything needed to create dozens of woodworking projects that increase in complexity as children develop their creative problem-solving skills.

Ooh La La Fashionista

Mrs. Nichole Mercado | Grades 1 - 4Period 2: 9:15 – 10:15 | Session A & BDive into the world of fashion and style! In this fun and artistic hands-on class, students learn to use their creativity and sense of style to make an idea come to life. Both sessions A and B will be similar in concept but will include different activities and crafts.

Minecraft Survivors

Ms. Nicole Sanders | Grades 1 - 5Period 2: 9:15 – 10:15 | Session A & BUsing Minecraft for Education, students in this class will experience different survival mode. Freeze tag, obstacle courses, and

resource challenges like “Escape from Everest” and “Water Challenge” will force students to collaborate to solve real-world problems and have fun in the process!

Minecraft Builders

Ms. Nicole Sanders | Grades 1 - 5Period 3: 10:30-11:30 | Session A & BUsing the Education MOD in Minecraft, students will create their own virtual city. Students will choose how and what they want to build. MJS has its very own server, so outside players won’t be able to disrupt with our amazing cities!

Battle Bots

Mrs. Erika Sears | Grades 3 - 5 Period 1: 8:15 – 9:15 | Session AEnter the arena! Students will learn how to design, build and program their very own battle bot using the newest Lego robotics system – the EV3. Face off against other student’s creations and learn from your mistakes as you seek to become the champion.

Loom Knitting

Ms. Marcie Durazo | Grades 2 - 5Period 4: 11:30 – 12:30 | Session A & B Get ready to get creative and learn new methods and techniques to loom knitting. This class will bring out your child’s creativity, while having a fabulous time making great fashion! Students will learn to knit purses, scarves, notebook covers, just to name a few.

Mega Movie Makers

Mr. John Guyer | Grades 1 - 5 Period 4: 11:30 - 12:30 | Session A & BStudents will collaborate in small groups to plan, write and storyboard a movie. Under the guidance of their teacher, students will work with their team to direct, shoot, edit and star in their original movie. Aspiring young filmmakers will explore the world of movie making, using tools and apps on an iPad, and take home a DVD of their movie masterpiece!

3D Printing

Mr. Michael Guyer Period 5: 1:00 – 2:00 | Session A | Grades 3-5Period 6: 2:00 – 3:00 | Session A | Grades 1-23D Printing is the art of designing a three-dimensional model on a computer and then actually printing it to be held in your hand! Students in this course will model several pieces using the award winning software “123D Create”, and choose one to bring to life that they get to take home!

Motion Capture

Mr. Michael Guyer Period 5: 1:00 – 2:00 | Session B | Grades 3-5Period 6: 2:00 – 3:00 | Session B | Grades 1-2Using the incredible software Maya and MotionBuilder alongside a Kinect motion sensing device, students will be able to animate their own characters in a process called Motion Capture. Students will leave the class with several animated models or characters performing moves that they did themselves in front of the sensor.

T-Shirt Designing

Mr. John Guyer | Grades 1 - 5 Period 5: 1:00 – 2:00 | Session BThis course begins with easy iron-on T-shirt designing, and then moves to more inventive T-shirt coloring and advanced designing using freezer paper, stencils and bleach water solutions. Students will be given 3 plain shirts to design and take home, but are welcome to bring spare tees from their closet for extra design opportunities!

European Vacation

Being Da Vinci | Grades 1 - 5 Period 5: 1:00 – 2:00 | Session A & BJoin our European Vacation to France and Italy where artists lived and created their masterpieces. Students will discover Renoir, Monet and Van Gogh on the Paris hill of Montmartre, Da Vinci and Picasso in Italy, and today’s fashion world of both Paris and Milan. Students will build a Paris café, experiment with cooking French food and create storefronts in both Paris and Milan to include sketches of fashion and textiles, pottery and matted artwork. Using photography, video and visual arts, students will create both digital and keepsake memory books of our travels.

Global Builders Design House

Being Da Vinci | Grades 1 - 5 Period 6: 2:00 – 3:00 | Session A & BUse Minecraft to conceptualize, visual arts and raw materials to design and build, music technology and photography to document, and urban planning investigation to test structures and create a future world to live on campus this summer. Interacting through workplaces, restaurants and futuristic spaces student’s creativity brings to fruition this collaborative team of builders and are empowered to guide the project as the teacher facilitates the ideas coming to life.

Learn to See and Draw

Ms. Penny Wong | Grades 1 - 5 Period 2: 9:15 – 10:15 | Session AThrough the practice of drawing and looking, students will develop skills in translating three-dimensional subjects onto a two-dimensional piece of paper. In this class, students will work with various materials such as pencils, colored pencils, charcoal pencils, chalk pastels and oil pastels to create drawings of still life arrangements using familiar, everyday objects. This course will sharpen the student’s eye as well as his/her hand.

Mosaic Medley

Ms. Penny Wong | Grades 1 - 5Period 2: 9:15 – 10:15 | Session BIn the grand tradition of the ancient Romans, students will use beads, stones, and pottery chips to create mosaic masterpieces. In this class students will create and take home items such as a beautiful tray, plant pot and trivet.

Lasting Impressions

Ms. Penny Wong | Grades 1 - 5Period 3: 10:30 – 11:30 | Session AIn this class, students will create paintings in the style of impressionist artists such as Vincent Van Gogh! Students will paint sunflowers, irises and other colorful common objects using tempera paints, watercolor paints and oil pastels.

Painting from the Heart

Ms. Penny Wong | Grades 1 - 5Period 3: 10:30 – 11:30 | Session BIn this class, students will create two paintings: a still life and a landscape painting, both on canvas using acrylic paints. Students are encouraged to play with colors, values, textures and experiment with different brush stroke techniques in this expressive course.

Super Size Sculpture

Ms. Penny Wong | Grades 1 - 5Period 4: 11:30 - 12:30 | Session ALions, tigers and griffins, oh my! In this class students will create a large-scale sculpture of their favorite animal or mythological creature. Students will learn how to build/assemble armatures as the base for their sculptural forms and then experiment with paper mache and tempera paints to bring their creative forms alive.

No musical experience is necessary and all are welcome to the madness!

Dance Sampler

Ms. Aimee Hopkins | Grades 1 - 5 Period 3: 10:30 – 11:30 | Session AGet up and move! Students will move their bodies and experience different cultures, histories of dance and fun moves. Students will learn routines from Lyrical Ballet, Jazz, Tap, African, Square Dance, Folk Dance and Step/Stomp dance, studying one dance each week with a showcase of different dance styles in routines for both boys and girls.

Musical Theatre

Ms. Aimee Hopkins | Grades 1 - 5 Period 3: 10:30 – 11:30 | Session BStudents will rehearse and perform a short musical play in abridged version with live piano and singing. Students may also create a musical revue with a melody of different musical theatre songs, depending on the interests of the students. Dialogue links the songs together with student narrators, bringing the songs to life with a short story line creating a final performance to be viewed by friends and family.

Drama Kids

Mr. John Guyer | Grades 1 - 5Period 6: 2:00 – 3:00 | Session AStudents will come together to learn whole scenes, rehearse and put on a live show. This class is great for the natural born performer or the child who might be on the shy side but has an itch to step outside their comfort zone and hone their inner actor. This class will culminate with a live play performance.

Guitar

Mr. John Guyer | Grades 1 - 5Period 6: 2:00 – 3:00 | Session BStudents will use classical guitars combined with iPad technology to learn how to play a basic guitar, and record their own musical pieces. Using an app on the iPad called Music Theory For Beginners, the students will learn basic music and guitar theory. Later on, students will use Garage Band on the iPad to record their own musical pieces. The final project will involve using iMovie to record their

own music video, which they will take home a copy of. There will also be a culminating performance for students to showcase their talents in front of friends and family members.

Calligraphy

Aimee Art Productions | Grades 4 - 5Period 1: 8:15 – 9:15 | Session ALearn the art of Calligraphy! In this class, students will study this beautiful form of writing focusing on the rules of letter construction as well as discussing the topics of pen, inks, papers, crafts and good reference books. Students will practices their calligraphy skills to create fun and useful cards, invitations, books and write poetry. The Breakfast Club

Mr. John Guyer | Grades 1 - 5Period 1: 8:15 - 9:15 | Session A & B Get your child off to a healthy start! This class is designed to shake off those morning cobwebs through relaxing stretching, brain-games and a healthy daily breakfast snack. Students will learn about nutrition, exercise and play games that stretch out those morning mental-knots.

Lacrosse

Mr. Jeff Toto | Grades 3 - 5Period 2: 9:15 - 10:15 | Session A If your child enjoys rough and tumble, Lacrosse is the sport for them! This course is designed to introduce students to the rules and fundamentals of Lacrosse through challenging drills and game play. Students will improve their speed, coordination and develop teamwork and communication skills.

Soccer

Mr. Daniel Flores Period 2: 9:15 – 10:15 | Session A | Grades 1-2Period 2: 9:15 – 10:15 | Session B | Grades 3-5 GOOOAL! In this class, students will improve their skills and knowledge of soccer while building self-confidence and teamwork. Children will learn various techniques and fundamentals through fun, team-based activities. Students of all levels are welcomed to join the fun!

Football

Mr. Daniel Flores | Grades 3 - 5 Period 1: 8:15 – 9:15 | Session A & BWhether your child is new to the game or has been playing for years, students can expect to have both their skill and knowledge of the game improved through this class. This class will cover all aspects of football in detail including: offense, defense, the kicking game, individual position instruction, and lots of game play experience!

Golf

Golf Squad | Grades 1 - 5 Period 1: 8:15 – 9:15 | Session BGolf Squad brings experienced PGA golf professionals to mentor and educate students about the great game of golf. Gold Squad also cultivates important character building and social skills, such as discipline, honesty and respect. Classes are taught in a friendly fun and safe environment.

Jiu-Jitsu

Mr. John Guyer | Grades 1 - 5 Period 3: 10:30 – 11:30 | Session A & BKee-ya! Students will learn basic self-defense by learning from a range of martial arts disciplines; among them, the basics of Japanese style jiu-jitsu, combined with Aikido defense and karate strikes. By the end of the session, students will know proper stretching methods and how to utilize jiu-jitsu basics in practical defense situations.

Fencing

Mr. Al Carter | Grades 1 - 5 Period 3: 10:30 - 11:30 | Session A & B Period 4: 11:30 - 12:30 | Session A & BThrough fencing, students are able to integrate their minds and bodies. As a result, students who fence gain balance, sharpen reflexes, and improve hand-eye coordination, confidence and self-esteem. Children will learn several footwork techniques, rules, safety, and play a variety of games allowing them to incorporate their newly acquired skills. Note: foils (swords) have rubber tips to ensure safety.

Tennis

GENERAL INFORMATION

Extended Care (3:00 – 6:00 pm)

Extended Care is available for all Summer Program 2016 children (grades PK-5) who remain on campus after their Period 6 course. Fees are reflected below.

• $200 per 3-week session, OR• $20 per day

Registration and Summer Tuition PaymentOnline registration opens February 5, 2016 at www.mayfieldjs.org/summer.

If your family attended Summer Program 2015, you have an existing account. Please use your login (your email) and password from last year (both can be reset upon request).

Enrollment during registration is on a first-come first-served basis. Classes close when they reach maximum enrollment, so you are encouraged to enroll early.

When selecting courses for your child, please ensure that they are enrolled in

consecutive classes when registering for more than one period. For instance, if your student is enrolled in Periods 1 and 3, a Period 2 class is required as well.

Payment of summer tuition is due at the time of registration. Spaces can be held with one of the three payment options below:• You make an online credit card

payment of summer tuition in full upon registration.

• You may make an online credit card payment of summer tuition in two equal installments, the first half due upon registration, and the second half due on or before May 13, 2016.

• You may make a check or cash payment of summer tuition in full upon in-person registration.

“Early Bird” DiscountSummer Program 2016 is offering an “Early Bird” Discount, February 5 – April 5, 2016:

• Receive $20 off for each course in Session A and Session B

• Receive $40 off for each course in Session C

• Receive $50 off each School Readiness Prep Program, 2-period afternoon block

• Receive $100 off each School Readiness Prep Program, 4-period morning block

Policy on Summer Course Changes, Drops and Full Program WithdrawalSummer Program 2016 recognizes that family plans may change. The School contracts with faculty, and program costs and lesson plans are based upon processed enrollments. Please continue reading for outlined policies, procedures, and deadlines.

Changing or Dropping a Summer Course: Grades 1-5A course change is defined as exchanging an enrolled course for another available course, or dropping a course from a schedule.• A written request must be submitted

for a course change to your child’s schedule on or before June 1, 2016. There will be a processing fee of $25 per course change or dropped course.

• Course changes after June 1, 2016 will be charged the full amount for each new course, and no refunds will be given for dropped courses.

Withdrawal from Summer Program 2016: All GradesA withdrawal from Summer Program 2016 is defined as a complete schedule cancellation by the registered family.• A written request must be submitted

to withdraw your child from Summer Program 2016. No refunds will be given for any withdrawal requests after June 1, 2016.

• A medical withdrawal request must be accompanied by documentation of the medical condition on physician’s letterhead, and submitted to Summer Program 2016 for review.

Couse Cancellation by Summer Program 2016• In the event the Summer Program 2016

has to cancel a course in which your child has enrolled, you will be notified. We will be happy to work with you to find a suitable course replacement.

• If you opt to not replace a canceled course, a full refund will be issued for that course only. If this causes a period gap, an alternate schedule with consecutive periods will be considered.

LunchThere is a supervised lunch period, 12:30 – 1:00pm. Students may remain

for lunch on campus if they have an afternoon schedule of Period 5 or Periods 5-6. Students have the following lunch options:• Students may bring a lunch from home.• Parents may drop off their student’s

lunch at the front office before 12:30pm. Parents are responsible for communicating this arrangement with their child.

• A hot lunch option, provided through Westridge School, is also available on campus everyday at 12:30 pm. Lunches cost $8 daily or you may purchase per session when you register online.

Dress CodeDress is informal (e.g. shorts, T-shirts, jeans, etc.), but students are expected to be well groomed and use good taste in their choice of clothing. Health regulations require footwear at all times. Children are encouraged to apply sunscreen in the morning before attending school or to bring it with them.

AbsencesWritten notifications of any planned absence is appreciated. In the event of an unplanned absence, please call or email the Extended Programs Office as soon as possible.

BehaviorStudents are expected to work cooperatively with their teachers, teacher aides and classmates. Attendance at Summer Program 2016 is a privilege, not a right. Therefore, a continued pattern of poor behavior will lead to a student’s dismissal with no tuition refund.

Lost and FoundShould any found items be turned in, the lost and found will be located in the Summer Program Office. Summer Program 2016 is not responsible for lost or stolen belongings. All personal items and removable clothing should be labeled with the student’s name.

• Please DO NOT turn left onto Euclid from Del Mar during busy carpool times.

• When driving or parking near campus, please be sensitive to our neighbors and adhere to all traffic rules. Parking restrictions are clearly posted.

• The north and south parking lots are reserved for faculty and staff between the hours of 7 am and 4 pm.

• Pick up from Extended Care is located in the Library.
