A LETTER FROM OUR PTO PRESIDENT, STACY HURST

Dear VHELP families and staff,

It has been my honor to serve as your PTO President this year. I can honestly say that getting to know our staff and families better has been the true highpoint of the year. I am so proud of all the volunteers who give their time and talents to serve our school. I am thankful for a community that values service above self.

PTO event chairs and volunteers have organized and managed a slew of exciting and enriching events and programs for our students and staff this year. My heartfelt thanks goes out to each of these individuals for their tireless efforts this year.

Best wishes for a fun and relaxing summer!Stacy Hurst2014-2015 VHELP PTO President

Dear VHELP Parents,

I’d like to start off by saying a huge thank you to this year’s President Stacy Hurst for bravely leading so many tireless volunteers towards a better VHELP. She has done it all with grace, efficiency, and zeal.  I can’t thank her enough personally for helping me get my feet wet.

This year’s PTO board is already working hard to make it another exceptional year in 2015-2016.  Please keep an eye out for our new PTO website which make its debut before registration in July.  This one stop shop will give you all the information you need about PTO, events, volunteering, calendars and more…and it’s MOBILE!! And our fall fundraiser is guaranteed to be tons of fun for everyone! But none of this is possible without the help and support of our tremendous parents at VHELP.  Please know I am always available for questions/concerns or suggestions.

Have a joyous summer!Kathy HendersonPTO President 2015-2016

Hi, Parents! May is finally here! It’s hard to believe that we have reached the end of another school year. I guess it’s true that time flies when you’re having fun!

Our 3rd - 5th grade students worked diligently on each and every test they took for the ACT ASPIRE. We can’t wait to see the growth and progress of all our hard working students!

The month of May will zoom by with end of the year lessons on Summer Safety, wrapping up small groups and transitions for our 5th graders. We will miss them all next year and wish them the best in their next step to Middle School.

Please do not hesitate to call or e-mail if you have any last minute thoughts or questions on the year behind us or the year ahead.

Here’s to the best summer yetMrs. Poe

Conversation Starters:1. Do you remember the story of the little boy who cried

wolf? Why do you think no one responded when the wolf actually did appear?

2. What did the shepherd lose when he lied? He lied because he was bored. Why do you think people lie sometimes?

3. Rewrite that story. How could the shepherd boy have re-earned the townspeople’s trust?

Check out my website:https://sites.google.com/a/vestavia.k12.al.us/mrspoescounselingcorner/

Watch out George Washington and Abe Lincoln! After this month, our

school will be filled with children who will go down in history for their truthfulness because we are dedicating the whole month of May to the Big Idea of…

Honesty - Choosing to be truthful in whatever you say and do.

May is a terrific time in the garden! Kindergarten, First, and Second Graders all visit the garden for Read and Seed story time. Ask your child what they touched, smelled, and tasted in the garden.

If your child plants a few seeds or a whole garden this summer, email pictures to me or share pictures to the VHELP Grounds Facebook page to show off what they grew.

Summer brings hot, dry weather to Alabama so the garden needs your family’s help to grow. If your family would like to volunteer to water the vegetable and herb garden over the summer, please contact Betsy Joyner at 637-5444 or [email protected]
