HOUSING & DINING PROGRAMS End of Semester Move-Out Information

Team up with Housing & Dining Programs, Facilities Management, and the Office of Sustainability for our 3rd annual Project Move-Out Community Sale! In response to AU's Zero Waste Policy, we are conducting a campus-wide collection of lightly used, unwanted items, and are putting together a sale open to the DC community. AU faculty, staff and students are welcome to donate unopened food, clothing, electronics, office supplies, small furniture items, and small kitchen appliances. Donations will be accepted in Letts Hall Formal Lounge, Leonard Hall Classroom #121, and the Congressional Hall Lobby each evening until May 3rd from 8pm-10pm. Donations will also be accepted at the Pod on the Quad on May 2nd and May 3rd from 10am-4pm. Everything but food will be available for resale on Saturday, May 4th in the Tavern from 9am- 2pm. Everything is priced reasonably at $10 or less. **There will be an Early Bird Special from 8am-9am on the sale day for only $5. Be the first ones into the sale to have the first dibs on the best items!** All proceeds of the sale & unsold items will benefit local DC charities. If you are interested in what items you can donate or assisting with volunteering, please visit the Project Move-Out Website or email Sophia at [email protected].

While it is hard to imagine packing up your belongings to prepare for move out, a little planning can go a long way. Keep the following things in mind as the end of the semester approaches. Respect the Quiet Hours: 24-Hour Quiet Hours will begin on Sunday, April 28, so please remember to respect your community members when they are studying hard for finals. MicroFridge Rentals: You will receive information at floor meetings on when MicroFridges will need to be defrosted and returned. Pick-ups will occur starting on May 8. Plan Your Move-Out Arrangements: The residence halls will close at 12 noon on Wednesday, May 8 for undergraduate students (or 24 hours after your last exam, whichever occurs first). Make sure to notify your RA of your departure date as soon as you know. Packages: Tuesday, May 7, 2013 will be the last day that mail and packages are accepted for Spring 2013 resident students. Any packages not picked up from the residence hall front desks by Wednesday, May 8 at 12 noon will be returned to the package sender. Be on the look-out for information from mail services in the coming days about forwarding your US Postal Service mail. Want More Information?: The official resource for May 2013 Closing and Move-Out information will be sent to you via email and will be located on flyers posted in the residence halls beginning the second week of April. If you have questions after reading the information, please talk with your RA to make sure that you follow the proper steps for moving out of the residence halls.

Thinking about Moving Off-Campus Next Year?

Each year, some students venture out into the city for off- campus housing which can be an intimidating process for many. We have developed multiple web based off-

campus housing resources, which include the Off-Campus Housing Guide and the

Moving and Living Off-Campus Webinars to accommodate those with busy schedules.

All of these resources can be found at www.american.edu/offcampushousing.

Find Your Fall Housing

During the Summer!

Summer Housing Search is an intensive one and a half day program to assist students

with locating apartments and roommates in the Washington D.C. area. The program is

designed to provide you with resources about the D.C. apartment market, tenants' rights, and tips for living successfully off

campus as an AU student. We'll work with you to set up appointments with local

apartment management companies and will coordinate an opportunity to view a range of

apartments. In addition to viewing apartments, you'll have the opportunity to meet other American University students who are seeking prospective roommates.

Summer Housing Search will take place on Tuesday, July 9, and Wednesday, July 10. This program is before the Eagle Summit for transfer students beginning Thursday,

July 11. Any American University Student is welcome to participate!
