President’s Pen

It’s spring! And you know what that means… April reflections bring May elections! Okay, I’m

corny but how often can you say you voted twice and it was completely legal to do so?!

Municipal elections are so important. Taxation, regulation, and most of the laws that affect us

day to day, are made at the local level by our City Council and School Boards. You wouldn’t buy

a car without looking under the hood, why would you vote without knowing who or what you’re

voting for? Early voting for the municipal election runs through May 3rd; Election Day is

Saturday, May 7th. If you have questions about a candidate, contact one of our Board members. We would be

delighted to help you.

The February statewide election triggered a few run-off races which will also be held in May. Run-offs are

incredibly important because the number of voters drastically decreases and only a very few people actually

determine who will hold those statewide offices. YOU should be one of those people! Early voting for the Run-Off

is May 16-20; Election Day is Tuesday, May 24th.

If you really want to have some fun, the Texas GOP Convention will be held in Dallas, May 12-14. Anyone can

register as a visitor and I would encourage you to do so! This is a great opportunity to experience the convention

right in your own backyard. www.texasgop.org

Thank you for the honor of serving you,

Glynis Chester

Will You Vote for Trump if He is Our Nominee?

A lot of people have brought up the fact that they won't vote for Trump if he is the eventual nominee. I just want to put something in perspective. Justice Scalia's seat is vacant. Ginsberg is 82 years old, Kennedy is 79, Breyer is 77, and Thomas is 67. Nowadays, the data shows that the average age of a Supreme Court retirement or death occurs after 75. These are 5 vacancies that will likely come up over the next 4-8 years. The next President will have the power to potentially create a 7-2 Supreme Court skewed in their ideology. Think about that... 7-2. If the next President appoints 5 young justices, it will guarantee control of the Supreme Court for an entire generation. And 7-2 decisions will hold up much more over time than 5-4 decisions which are seemed to be lacking in mandate. Hillary has made it clear she will use the Supreme Court to go after the 2nd Amendment. She has literally said that the Supreme Court was wrong in its Heller decision stating that the Court should overturn and remove the individual right to keep and bear arms. Period. Everyone saying that they won't vote for one candidate or the other if they are the GOP nominee, please realize this. If Hillary Clinton wins and gets to make these appointments, you likely will never see another Conservative victory at the Supreme Court level for the rest of your life. Ever. If you are a Conservative, a vote for anyone but the GOP nominee, whomever that will be, is a vote for Hillary Clinton. That is how Obama got into office - people staying home because they couldn't in good con-science' vote for Romney - If you did that, you helped Obama get elected. Submitted by Gail Abbott. Did You Hear about our scholarship

dinner???

Republican Women are always happy to celebrate

young conservative women with college scholarships

and lots of encouragement. RWGNT is no exception.

On April 20th, after gathering at Stonebriar Country

Club at 4:00, a team of RW worked feverishly to set up

the wine pull, table decorations, video system, and

check-in desk in preparation for a delightful evening.

Our event began at 6:00 with a half hour for socializing,

then an invocation by Collin County Commissioner

Susan Fletcher, the National Anthem sung by Tanya

Deiter, and a room of almost 200 people honoring our

flags with Dianne Edmondson. Our wine pull was a

success, as many vendors, members, and guests

donated 195 bottles of nice wines and lots of people in

attendance donated $20-100 to pull bottles to take home

with them. The auction seemed to start a little slow but

quickly took off, thanks to our very own auctioneer,

Dianna Sharp. Between sponsorships, pledges, ticket

sales, the wine pull and live auction, we raised

$35,000!! Wow!!

Our honored guests and scholarship winners enjoyed an

energetic talk by Texas Senator Jane Nelson about what

our conservative leaders are accomplishing on our

behalf. We have all admired and appreciated Senator

Nelson for many years and now have a scholarship

established in her honor.

Scholarship Recipients were:

Jane Gray Nelson Scholarship - Lauren Wasson, who

was home schooled and will go to Abilene Christian

University, majoring in political science.

Shirley Melton Johnson Scholarship - Laiken Ritchie,

from McKinney North High School, attending

Pepperdine University in the fall.

Florence Shapiro Scholarship - Nicole Sun, from

Centennial High School in Frisco, headed to UT Austin

Libby and Steve Maus. Scholarship - Anna Flusche, in

Collin College nursing program.

Ladies, be sure to record the hours spent on this event,

on our website! The hours put into this event since

December will look great on our club's volunteer hours

reports, especially for April!

Libby Maus Scholarship Chairman

Congratulations and thank you to all members who

submitted their campaign hours for the first quarter of

2016.We posted a whopping 6,140 hours for the

quarter. We have spent over 6,000 hours so far this

year furthering the work of the RWGNT through

campaign work, fund raising projects, leadership and

management seminars, supporting Republican

candidates and fulfilling the responsibilities of the

various offices, just to name a few important areas.

FYI, our average number of hours per quarter in 2015

was 900. That’s an unbelievable difference.

Now is the time to start recording your time for the

second quarter. Because it is a campaign year, there

are lots of opportunities to help your favorite

candidates and there are many candidates who need

your help. It’s a breeze to submit your hours on the

RWGNT web site. You will see the area used for

submitting hours on the left side of the home page.

You can submit many times throughout the quarter and

system will record each entry and put them into a report

at the end of the quarter.

A way to help increase the number of voters is to

become a Deputy Registrar.

We want as many Republican voters as possible. We

can help with this by becoming volunteer deputy

registrars in Collin or Denton County...This is a very easy

thing to do and takes very little time. For information,

you can contact me at [email protected] or

contact the elections office in your county. For Collin

County, call 972-547-1900, and for Denton County call

940-349-3200.

In June we will begin selling our new cookbook

“Cooking Right in Red Hot Texas.”

If you are aware of an event where we might be able to

set up a display to sell our book, please let me know.

Be prepared to start purchasing the books at our

regular meeting in June and think about all the gifts you

will need through the end of the year. The cookbook

will be the perfect item for some of those.
