It’s me, your LtG! With Spring Board under my belt, I have learned a few new

things.

The first of these is that the spirit of key club is the strongest in

the great division 74! We have so much potential as a division. I would

personally like to congratulate you all on your efforts in every thing

that you do. Thank you for giving me bragging rights in the district!

The next thing that I learned is that we have a long way to go,

with the district project newly announced we can now start work on it!

The project as you will learn later is The Eliminate Project. You can

learn about that on pages four and five. Other things to work on

include getting dues in on time for the next year, updating me with

your clubs information, and starting to think about how you will deal

with the upcoming summer.

I would personally like to invite everyone reading this to this

year’s Rally in the Valley. The date for Rally is going to be July 19th

through the 20th. The theme, is SERVE-ivor! So be ready to serve to

survive! The event will be at Camp Wilani, near Eugene. There will be

events such as ziplining, swimming, interesting forums, enticing

keynote speakers, and delicious food! Get ready to meet

some amazing other divisions and spend time with the

great PNW district board.

In love and caring service

District Project One baby dies every

9 minutes from neonatal tetanus

On average, health education and a series of three

doses of tetanus vaccine cost $1.80

Kiwanis will help save or protect more than

61 million mothers and their future babies

38 countries remain at high risk for

MNT

160 babies die each day from neonatal

If a baby gets MNT, it will lose its mothers touch

No baby should lose their mothers touch

$1.80 can stop this.

The Two Dollar Plan:

If each person In the district brings in two dollars, we

will raise a total of $24,600

That is:

13,667 vaccinations

Estimated 13,667 lives saved

For the price of a cup of coffee

Why The Eliminate Project?

The answer to this is, every 9 minutes,

one child or mother dies from What is known as

MNT (Maternal/Neonatal Tetanus). This painful

disease steals the lives of 60,000 babies from

their families. In 30 countries around the world,

MNT takes on a large toll because of deliveries

taking place in unhygienic circumstances and

because no vaccination for the deadly infec-

tion is available. The effects of this infection is

excruciating. Tiny new born babies suffer re-

peated, painful convulsions and extreme sensi-

tivity to light and touch, turning the joy of child-

birth into a tragedy.

What we need to do as key clubbers, is to change this. As

part of the largest student led organizations in the world, we can

ELIMINATE this deadly infection. With just 3 does of a 60 cent

immunization, we can protect mothers who will in turn protect

their future offspring. That’s just $1.80, about the price of a small

coffee from Starbucks, or a small burger. Together with our

Kiwanis counterpart and UNICEF, we can end something that

can be prevented so easily.

Greeting Division 74,

Whether you are enjoying the partly sunny springtime weather or preparing for the AP exams, don’t forget about your dedication and commitment to Key Club!

As your District Treasurer, my main goal is to facilitate the collec-tion of dues and enable clubs to fulfill all of their financial obliga-tions, so feel free to use me as a resource for any questions regard-ing dues payment, registration, or Key Club in general.

With your help, the PNW Key Club, can push our District to the next level and expand our goal of service!

Best regards, Eric Grewal

Hello fellow Key Clubbers! I am looking forward to being able to serve as your District Editor this upcoming year. Fortunately, I will be in the Washington area this summer and am hoping to be able to go to as many rallies as possible, even Rally in the Valley! Some goals I have this year are to make the EsPRESSo an opportunity for Key Clubbers such as yourselves to contribute and share of your success. Using State Spotlights, photography contests and opportunities to submit articles. I am also working on distribution of the EsPRESSo. I look forward to working with you! Add me to your facebook groups, feel free to email me, anything! Let's be besties.

CLUB SPOTLIGHT! Springfield High School!

As I write this newsletter, Springfield High School is in the process of

starting a new Key Club! That will bring the total number of clubs in

Division 74 to eleven! I recently visited the SHS leadership /ASB class to give

a speech on what Key Club is all about, and I must say, that group of people

shared kindness and compassion with me, that I see in all of you, the spirit of

key club was strong in those ones. While the application process can take up

to three months, it will be done, and that is where you come in...

To start a key club as many

of you know, there must be

15 members. Being that I am

not as familiar with people in

the Eugene/Springfield area,

I would like to ask you to

meet some people there,

and tell them how amazing

Key Club truly is!

March of Dimes Lieutenant Governor Challenge:

Why I chose March of Dimes:

I chose March of Dimes because they, as an organization

realize that together, we can ensure that all babies have a good

entrance into this world. I believe strongly in this concept, and

come on, who doesn’t want to say they have saved the life of a

young human being?

Since 2003, The rising incidence of premature birth

has demanded action, and the March of Dimes has

responded by initiating an intensive, multi-year

campaign to raise awareness and find the causes of

prematurity.

Know your charity!

FDR’s personal struggle with polio led him to

create the March of Dimes, the foundation

established a polio patient aid program and

funded research for vaccines developed by

Jonas Salk, MD and Albert Sabin, MD. These

vaccines effectively ended epidemic polio in

the United States.

The March of Dimes has led the way

to discover the genetic causes of birth

defects, to promote newborn

screening, and to educate medical

professionals and the public about best

practices for healthy pregnancy.
