St. Francis of Assisi SCHOLARSHIP NOTICE
St. Francis of Assisi Parish provides scholarships to eligible graduating high school seniors who live in Incline Village, NV. Applicants must be (or have been) confirmed, active, full-time registered members of our parish. Applications are available now (request via email from [email protected]) and returned to that same email address by Sunday, June 13, 2020 by 5 pm. Only complete applications, including letters of
reference that are returned by the deadline, will be considered. The applicant’s ability to complete the application according to directions will be a factor in awarding scholarships.

FORMATION AND LEADERSHIP 2021-2022
Already serving the parish in a ministry position but wishing for a broader understanding of it? In a leadership position in the parish but you know that understanding more about the church

This may be your next step!
Applications are now being accepted for the 2021-2022 Diocese of Reno Lay Ministry Formation and Leadership program. This diocesan program takes participants deeper into faith and ministry. Meetings are held one Saturday per month in Reno, September-May. Zooming will be utilized as needed. Interested? Intrigued? Talk to your pastor about your interest! 2nd Collection for this weekend: May 8-9, 2021 Catholic Home Missions Appeal
ENDLESS LOVE
Our readings this weekend call us to love as Christ loves. In our Gospel, Jesus says, “Love one another as I have loved you.” The ways Jesus has loved us and continues to love us are endless. We are called to imitate this love. And He tells us the greatest way to do this when He said, “No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” It is difficult to live that out in our humanity. Yet, it is made much easier when we faithfully love Christ. The fact of the matter is, as our love for Christ increases, so too does our capacity to love others. There are countless moments when we can do just that — for instance, taking time on a weekday afternoon to attend daily Mass instead of checking tasks off of your “to do” lists, acknowledging… rather than ignoring… a homeless individual, talking to God in the car on the way to work instead of listening to music, committing acts of kindness without keeping “score” or seeking for “good job” from others... These are simple ways to express our love for the Lord by laying down our lives for Him. The more we find ways to love the Lord, the more we will find it easier to put aside our selfishness and serve others.
Christ’s command to love others may seem daunting. Yet, Christ would never ask something of us that we cannot live out. All we need to do is take baby steps. Ask yourself, "How can I better love Jesus right now?" for it is in loving Christ that we will better love others, and it is in loving others that we love Christ Himself.
AMOR SIN FINAL
Nuestras lecturas de este fin de semana nos llaman a amar como ama Cristo. En nuestro Evangelio, Jesús dice: "amenos unos a otros como yo les he amado". Las formas en que Jesús nos ha amado y continúa amándonos son infinitas.
Estamos llamados a imitar a este amor. Y nos dice la mejor manera de hacer esto cuando dijo: " Nadie tiene mayor amor que él que, da la vida por los amigos". Es difícil vivir eso en nuestra humanidad. Sin embargo, es mucho más fácil cuando amamos fielmente a Cristo. El hecho es que, a medida que aumenta nuestro amor por Cristo, también aumenta nuestra capacidad de amar a los demás. St. Francis of Assisi Food Outreach Programs Update With Fr. Jorge Herrera's sponsorship, we are very excited to announce the start of our Food Ministry for the Spring, Summer, and Fall of 2021. Once again, we will partner with Catholic Charities of Reno. The Lord greatly blessed us in 2020, as we served the equivalent of 10,100 meals to families in need in the form of groceries. The will be supported within our parish by a partnership between the Knights of Columbus and the newly formed Women's Ministry of St. Francis. Lorena Aquilar ([email protected]) and Vern Howard ([email protected]) will serve as co-supervisors for this exciting ministry. We will begin this service on Thursday, May 20. Food distribution will occur starting at 4:00 and ending at 6:00 pm. Volunteers should plan to arrive at 3:15 and depart at 6:30 pm. Those wishing to volunteer for this exciting ministry should reach out via email to Lorena and Vern to express for interest. We wish to thank the entire St. Francis Community for supporting and participating in this high impact community!

Project Dresser Update: Thank you to all who have continued to support Project Dresser with monetary donations all during the pandemic. Because of your wonderful generosity, we were able to send a $1,000 check to Casa de Vida to help in their Mother's Day fund raising campaign to assist pregnant moms and their babies. We were also able to give a $500 stipend to Our Lady of Loretto Catholic Church in Novato, CA who, through Annie Quinn. Annie, whose mother was Shelly Quinn, a former Religious Education Director here at St. Francis, has started a Project Dresser ministry modeled after ours in their parish. I am so very proud of being a member of St Francis of Assisi and being surrounded by such loving parishioners. May the Good Lord bless all of you! Denise Azzara, Ministry Leader
