    Friday, May 6, 2016 - Havana 9:30AM Meet your WTE representative, Vashon Island-based

    educator and photographer Ray Pfortner and photo styl- ist Nancy Wing at the Miami airport.

    12:40PM Depart Miami, FL for Havana, Cuba on your scheduled charter flight.

    1:40PM Arrive at Havana Jose Marti airport. Clear customs and immigration (about 1 hour process). Meet your Cuban escort.

    3:00PM Ride in vintage cars into Havana. Stop at the Plaza de la Revolucion (Revolution Square), the administrative and political center of Cuba with its beautiful buildings, as well as the Malecón, the famous promenade in the heart of Havana for some first photographs.

    6:00PM Check into Hotel Mélia Cohiba*****, one of the most beautiful hotels in Havana, and enjoy your welcome drink and short orientation session.

    7:30PM Ride in Coco-Taxis, Havana’s famous Tuk Tuk’s, from the hotel to the old town. Enjoy a show-dinner (includes 3 drinks) and evening entertainment by the group “Los Legendarios del Guajirito”, which makes music in the style of the Buena Vista Social Club. Watch and photograph Havana’s newest and most exciting music and dance show.

    Saturday, May 7, 2016 - Havana 8:00AM Breakfast at the hotel 9:30AM In the morning, visit the Old town of Havana (Havana

    Vieja) and explore the most important squares and places of the historical center such as Plaza San Francisco de Assisi, Plaza Vieja and Plaza de Armas, where the city originated.     12:00PM Lunch in Paladar Los Mercaderes in the heart of the Old Town.

    1:15PM After lunch enjoy discussions at Fototeca de Cuba. The Fototeca is a part of the National Council of Plastic Arts under the Ministry of Culture. Its mission is to preserve, promote, display and disseminate the photographic heritage of Cuba and to bring Cuban photography to the public through various communication strategies, cultural promotion, etc.

    3:00PM Visit the Luthier Workshop, a state-run workshop where Andres Martinez and two of his apprentices repair violins, violas, cellos and bass. Martinez, who began as a furniture repairman for the historian’s office, joined the workshop when it opened three years ago. Talk with the workers in their workroom.

    4:30PM Visit the Centro Cultural Antiguos Almanenes de Deposito San Jose. This handicraft market sits under the cover of an old shipping warehouse. Here you will not only have a chance to look for the perfect souvenirs but also meet many local artists and to photograph them and their work.

    5:00PM Return to the hotel for a short rest before dinner. 5:45PM Meet with an extraordinary photographer Leysis Quesada

    in her studio in Vedado. Leysis has invited several other Cuban artists to meet with you in her studio as well.

    6:30PM Dinner at Paladar Rio Mar in Miramar, where Leysis and a few other photographers will join you for a delicious meal and conversation.

    8:30PM Visit Fabrica de Arte, a symbol of the “New Cuba”, founded by Cuban artist X Alfonso. The venue is located on the 2nd floor of a former factory, and is extremely popular among young Cuban intellectuals for its mixture of live-music performances, cinema and alternative art exhibitions. This is the place where you will photograph the best of the island’s avant-garde arts!
