The purpose of the California Chapter of the Foundation for North American Wild Sheep, an exempt organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, is as follows:

a) To promote and enhance increasing populations of indigenous wild sheep on the North American continent and especially in California;

b) To inform and educate the people of California, Canada, Mexico and the United States concerning North American wild sheep (particularly California), their habitat, health, population densities, relocation, and general welfare;

c) To promote the professional management of North American wild sheep in order to augment the number and size of game herds, such professional management to include the use of regulated hunting as a legitimate tool of conservation and game management, to achieve optimum populations of indigenous species wherever possible throughout North America, and to safeguard against the decline or extinction of any of such indigenous species;

d) To protect, defend and preserve the lawful right and privilege of recreational hunting through education of mainstream America as to the conservation benefits of lawful hunting, and to vigorously respond in a positive manner to those anti-hunting individuals and groups who strive, either legally or unlawfully, to prohibit this legitimate recreation, recognizing that well-regulated hunting with limited bag limits, controlled shooting hours and hunting seasons, in a management environment, is a viable, effective and practical tool of wise and efficient wildlife management that will assure a rational use of the earth’s renewable resources and control the sustainable use of such resources by limiting overgrowth of dense game populations of abundant species.

e) To encourage all men and women hunters to be responsible conservationists who harvest animals humanely and utilize their meat without waste, while hunting under conditions of fair chase and good sportsmanship.

f ) To participate and associate with other clubs, associations and organizations throughout the world which share goals, beliefs, and purposes common with those of this organization.

g) To engage in such other activities as may be appropriate in conjunction with the foregoing.

CA FNAWS PROJECTS UPDATE

2006 was another great year for CA FNAWS when it came to getting stuff done for the sheep! Here’s a summary of what we’ve done since the last banquet with the money our members helped us raise:

1. Assisted in underwriting expenses for a survey of the San Gabriel herd - $1,000.2. Telemetry collars for White Mountain capture/collar project - $975.3. Helicopter time for capture/collar project and aerial survey in White Mountains, resulting in the addition of two more tags in the unit for the 2007 – 2008 season - $8,995.4. Created and sponsored the first annual Sheep Summit, bringing together key organizations and experts to evaluate and plan for the future of California’s desert bighorn sheep - $563.5. Underwriting for 2006 sheep hunter orientation clinic - $2,000.6. Helicopter time for the Old Dad Peak/Eagle Crags translocation project - $11,858.7. Helicopter time for aerial survey in a potential new hunt area in the Turtle Mountains, initiated and privately underwritten by CA FNAWS directors David Combs and Graham Weiss - $5,546.8. Helicopter time for an aerial survey in a potential new hunt area in the Whipple and Chemuevis Mountains - $8,866.9. High altitude helicopter time for the capture and collar of Sierra Nevada Bighorn Sheep - $11,990.10. Partnering with FNAWS, co-sponsored a Respiratory Disease Workshop at UC Davis. This critical workshop brought together leading sheep biologists and scientists from all over North America to share information on the respiratory diseases issues that so endanger wild sheep herds - $5,000.

In total, since our last banquet, we’ve funded almost $57,000 in important projects that will help put and keep sheep on the mountains. With your help, we will continue this effort, working with the California DFG, along with other agencies and organizations to increase the numbers of wild mountain sheep in California and improve the health of our herds. As we succeed, new hunt units will open and more desert bighorn sheep hunting opportunities will become available. The CA FNAWS Board of Directors is committed to funding only the best projects, while minimizing overhead expenses and maximizing the percentage of your hard-earned dollars that go into the ground!

SILENT AUCTIONTo place a bid in the Silent Auction you need only to legibly write your name and the amount of your bid on the bid sheet. Please note the minimum bid increment (on the bid sheet). There is no maximum bid increment! An announcement will be made prior to the closing of these auctions. See the Schedule for closing time. Once the Silent Auction has been declared closed, the bid sheets will be collected and compiled. The last bidder on the bid sheet with the highest bid will be the winner of the item. The winners name will be posted on the Silent Auction winner’s board in the Cashiers area. To collect the item(s) you have won, go to the cashier’s table and make the required payment. You will be given a paid receipt, which you can take to the appropriate Silent Auction section to receive the item or items you won.

Putting sheep on the mountain!

LIVE AUCTIONBidder numbers are not required. There will be auction spotters on the floor during the LiveAuction to assist the auctioneer in identifying bidders. It is the bidder’s responsibility to make his/her intentions be known. If you are the successful bidder, a runner will come to your location and ask that you fill out a simple form. Please be complete and sign the document when finished. You will receive a copy of that auction form. To collect the item, visit the cashier’s booth and pay for the item. The cashier will mark the receipt “paid” and hand it to a runner who will retrieve the item(s) you will then own. Please Note: There is No Upper Limit On the Amount Of Money You May Bid On An Item! We’re Here Tonight To “Put Sheep On The Mountain!” Let’s Get It Done!

HUNTS AND TRIPSWe have made every effort to ensure the quality of all donated hunts and trips. However, we cannot guaranteethe satisfaction of either the donor or the buyer. It is the purchaser’s responsibility to contact the donor as soon aspossible to make all arrangements necessary to complete the requirements of both parties. On some guided huntsor fishing trips there may be licensing and permit application deadlines. It is the buyer’s responsibility to makeaccurate and timely applications.

FIREARMSIf you win or purchase a firearm, you must fill out a Firearms Transaction form prior to claiming the firearm. Youcan do this at the firearms table. Due to the state and federal laws, the purchasers/winners of firearms must fillout the required documentation at the banquet or at Badger Johns Store, 2633 El Camino Ave., Sacramento, CA 95821, 916-489-1022; but actual possession cannot be completed on the spot. You will receive instructions on how and where to pick up your firearm. Any charges incurred during the transaction are the sole responsibil-ity of the purchaser/winner. Out-of-town purchasers/winners may arrange to have firearms sent to a local dealer by contacting the attending banquet FFL dealer (Badger John's). If you have any questions, ask a CA FNAWS volunteer for assistance. Firearms must be picked up within 30-days of the banquet date or they will become the property of CA FNAWS.

Have a great time at the fundraiser and remember your generosity will

make a direct impact on the SHEEP! Monies raised will go “on the ground” to benefit wild sheep, and the other wildlife whose habitat they share! We are humbly grateful for your support. Your generosity will make a direct and positive difference for Wild Sheep.

Thank you!

The 3/4 Curl Club was initiated in 2002 by CA FNAWS Board Members Debi Ramsey-Casey and Charlene Winkler.

The purpose of the 3/4 Curl Club is to encourage young people (17 and under) to engage in the fun and excitement of hunting while at the same time learning about the importance of wildlife conservation.

With a growing membership of 107 we have been very busy! There are fun outings which include our young members and adults (never too old to have fun!). We are constantly looking for special hunts and trips for youth, anything fun.

We now include for our young members their very own newsletter. We publish stories of adventures in the field, photos of hunt trips, all written by our youth in their own words and other youth information of interest. When we started we had only 12 pages. Now thanks to our members participation we are up to 20 pages of fun stories and times along with educational information.

In addition, we have been able to contribute to the California Chapter of the FNAWS to support hunts, family trips, raffles and provide generous contributions to this, our annual fundraising banquet.

A member of the USA Shooting team is once again attending the banquet and there are specialevents we have planned for the youth. Don’t miss the pool party -- lunch will be from 12:00-2:00(3/4 Curl Club members 17 and under are free).

Join today! Membership renewals are September of each year. New and Renewal membershipis $10.00. Send us your story and receive an extra ticket in the next free hunt drawing !
