May 4- May 8, 2020 Hello Room 11! I miss seeing all of you- I hope you and your families are staying healthy, happy, and safe! This week we are starting a new unit ! I have attached a shortened version of the book to read every day. This unit will focus on things that we like and want more of! Since Curious George likes pizza in the story, he makes of it! Language Arts Monday, May 4 Objective: Students will be introduced to new vocabulary and core words. Materials: Book: Curious George and the Pizza Party by Cynthia Platt (book attached) PROPs: pizza, chef hat, flour, like, more (icons are the large pictures with the vocabulary name labeled at the top) Materials: vocabulary icons to print and cut out Procedure Tell students we are going to read a book that has the words: STORY VOCABULARY: pizza, chef hat, flour, like, more Begin introducing the icons and pairing with the vocabulary. 1. Have student touch the items and listen if applicable 2. Show the students the Like

more 3. Introduce vocabulary words with the icons (included before this page). 4. If time allows, read Curious George and the Pizza Party

Math Monday, May 4

Objective: SW identify the shapes rectangle, circle, triangle, and oval. Materials: Pizza Shapes Worksheet Scissors, glue

Procedure You can adapt or modify the worksheet by making the answer choices (the cut out

options) raised by using wiki stiks, puffy paint, or play dough. For today, only focus on the first row of the worksheet.

For each shape, label the shape for your student. Ex.

Have the options (cut out from bottom of worksheet and modified) available on the table or in a sensory bin. Assist your student in searching the choices to find the one you labeled. Then assist your student in gluing the answer under the correct shape name.

Do this for all four shapes.

SW celebrate Cinco de Mayo by making a tambourine. o Follow the Cinco de Mayo Tambourine Craft instruction sheet. Can be

modified based on items you have at home. Give your student choices on different materials to fill the tambourine and to decorate the tambourine with.

Math Tuesday, May 5

Objective: SW practice counting down from 5 by singing along to Materials: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t2jnqUyxck0 5 Little Monkeys on Youtube 5 Little Monkeys worksheet to cut out

Procedure

Play the song on Youtube.com Before each verse, pause the song and count the total number of monkeys left.

When a monkey swings off the tree, assist the student in making the monkey fall off and then count how many remain.

Continue this activity a couple of times, so that the student becomes familiar with the pattern of subtracting monkeys from the total number of 5.

*Sensory Extension: you can put the monkeys in a homemade sensory bin (small box or container filled with oats, rice, rocks, etc.)*

Math Friday, May 8 Objective: Materials: I Have, Who Has cards (cut along black vertical line)

o Can be adapted with wiki stiks, puffy paint, or play dough Procedure To play the game, deal out all of the cards to all of the players in the group (groups

of 2-4 players). If you play this game at small group, each child will have a set of cards, but if you play it as large group, just give each child one card.
