Justice Outreach Project for Youth

The Diocese of Helena is offering a Justice Outreach

Project for high school students and young adults age 18+

this summer, July 7-12th in Browning, Montana. You will

spend 6 days of prayer, service/work, fun, and cultural

experiences. This project is focused on the needs &

capabilities of young people by placing them outside their

comfort zone. This extraordinary fun and unique adventure

crosses the borders of race and culture. Each day starts

with Mass, then the group serves the community though a

work project (painting, cleaning, reclaiming gravesites,

mending fences, light yard work, etc.), take a break, and

then have a cultural experience in the evening presented by

prominent members of the Blackfeet Nation. This is not a

mission trip to save anyone or a service trip to fix

anything. The project is about building the Kingdom of

God through the hard work of forming mutually respectful

relationships. Cost is $325 and registration is due June

15. If interested contact Georgia 781-1830.

May 3: Feast Day of St. James the Lesser

St. James the Less, the author of the first Catholic

Epistle, was the son of Alphaeus of Cleophas. His

mother Mary was either a sister or a close relative

of the Blessed Virgin, and for that reason,

according to Jewish custom, he was sometimes

called the brother of the Lord. The Apostle held a

distinguished position in the early Christian

community of Jerusalem. St. Paul tells us he was a

witness of the Resurrection of Christ; he is also a

"pillar" of the Church, whom St. Paul consulted

about the Gospel.

According to tradition, he was the first Bishop of

Jerusalem, and was at the Council of Jerusalem

about the year 50. The historians Eusebius and

Hegesippus relayed that St. James was martyred

for the Faith by the Jews in the Spring of the year

62, although they greatly esteemed his person and

had given him the surname of "James the Just."
