A New Way to Give! We want to thank all of you who
have embraced this new way of giving. The response has
been exceptional. We had a great rollout plan for
Pushpay which would have slowly introduced it and
explained in detail the whys and hows until the
implementation. Unfortunately with the unexpected Covid
19 pandemic, we were forced to scrap our rollout plan/
schedule and just make it available. Pushpay is a great
and innovative company. They are also very supportive
to the parishes they serve. Overall it has gone great,
thanks to all of you. There are some features we would
like to have that are currently not available. JoEllen and
Rhonda are continually working with the Pushpay team to
request changes/updates that will meet the needs of the
Mary Queen Community. They are both available via
email to help you with questions, comments, etc.

The texttogive and online giving are available for
you to use. We would love for you to try it and let us know
what you think. For online giving go to pushpay.com/
g/maryqueencatholicchurch or you can text the words
Mary Queen to 77977 and follow the prompts to pay
through your smartphone! Pushpay currently accepts
Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover, as
well as ACH (bank account) payments!

The Mary Queen App is coming very soon! Hopefully
within the next week.

Current Faith Direct Users
If you are currently using Faith Direct, it will be available
through the end of May. To cancel your Faith Direct
account, go to https://membership.faithdirect.net/
TX242 and log into your account. Scroll down to the
bottom right corner, you will see “Cancel My eGiving
Account”. If it does not allow you to cancel online, you
can call them at 18665078757. You will not lose any of
your giving history at Mary Queen Church.

To set up your recurring contribution on Pushpay, simply
text the words MARY QUEEN to 77977 or go to https://
pushpay.com/g/maryqueencatholicchurch. As you set
up your recurring gift you will complete the creation of
your new account. Unlike Faith Direct, Pushpay does not
give us the option at this time to make all second
collections visible or to schedule annual giving. We are
currently working on that with Pushpay and we will have
a temporary solution soon until the "Annual" giving button
is developed.
Stewardship Reports
Due to the Coronavirus Crisis, the stewardship reports
look different but we are reporting all the mailin offerings
as well as Pushpay offerings. Thank you for your prayers
and support during this difficult time.
Exciting News!

Shepherd, Gate, Life
(4
th
Sunday of Easter: Acts 2:3641; 1 Peter 2:2025; John
10:110)

“Faith is not a noun but a verb.” Grammatically this
assertion is patently false, and yet its meaning is obvious.
Continuing last week’s theme of the path, we can say that
faith is taking the first step. Here I mean the precise
moment when our faith becomes a genuinely personal
encounter, when we discover that our relationship with the
Lord is essential to our existence.

In the first reading, Peter concludes his Pentecost speech:
“Let the whole house of Israel know for certain that God
has made both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you
crucified.” The Apostle is making the message known to all
his people.

In his letter, Peter gives words of encouragement in a time
of suffering: “Christ bore our sins in his body upon the
cross, so that, free from sin, we might live for
righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.” The
Beautiful Lady shows the image of her crucified Son even
as she speaks of sin and conversion.

She is addressing those who, in the first reading, are called
“this corrupt generation.” We need to separate ourselves
from everything, within and without, that debases us in any
way.

Her call to conversion expresses a hope that Peter states
as fact: “You had gone astray like sheep, but you have now
returned to the shepherd and guardian of your souls.”
Which leads us to our Gospel, where it seems John could
have used a good editor. Distinct images are jumbled
together.

First, Jesus is not a thief or a robber, but the shepherd who
“calls his own sheep by name and leads them out;” then he
is “the gate,” then “All who came before me are thieves and
robbers,” then he is the gate again, then once more not a
thief, and finally he declares: “I came so that they might
have life and have it more abundantly.”

This last sentence is what holds the rest together.
Whichever image we prefer, abundance of life is what it is
meant to convey. Mary’s discourse at La Salette lacks a
certain logic in parts, but the message is clear: when we
return to the Shepherd, we find life.

And he will lead us to that place which the Psalmist this
week tells of.

Archdiocese of GalvestonHouston Prayer
in the Time of the Coronavirus

Comfort us, O Lord, for we are like
your disciples on the storm tossed seas,
unsettled by what lies ahead.
We turn to You, our Healer and Guide,
to still our hearts in our time of need and
hear our prayer: Heal those who are sick
with the coronavirus and protect the elderly
and most vulnerable. Give strength to all who
tend to our health and wisdom to researchers
who work toward a cure. Open our eyes
and hearts, as you did during Hurricane Harvey,
that we may look beyond our immediate needs to care
for others who need help.
Through the Holy Spirit, guide our leaders to make wise
decisions for the welfare of all the people
they serve. Grant eternal rest to those who
have died from the virus. May Mary,
Our Mother, who has heard our pleas in
the storms of our lives, intercede to her Son,
that we may find healing and a prompt end to this ill-
ness. Mary, Star of the Sea, pray for us.
Jesus Christ, Our Lord and Savior, heal us. Amen
Spiritual Act of Communion

My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most
Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I
desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at
this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least
spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were
already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never
permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

During these difficult times, men need spiritual
sustenance more, not less: “Man does not live by bread
alone, but by every word that falls from the mouth of
God” (Matthew 4:4).

As such, many of our men our friends and neighbors
are not able to receive the spiritual sustenance they need
and have traditionally found through That Man is You!

To continue to serve the Men of Mary Queen, we will
continue to meet on Wednesday mornings from 5:45
7:00 AM for the TMIY sessions "virtually". Obviously, this
can never fully replace inperson meetings, but it can
provide the spiritual sustenance needed when we don't
have other options.

I know that the coronavirus is placing increasing
demands on all of us. Let us trust that God's grace will
always be sufficient: "God ... will not let you be tempted
beyond your strength" (1 Corinthians 10:13).

Fourth Sunday of Easter

With whom do we converse and listen to the most?
Believe it or not, the answer is ourselves. We are
constantly having conversations with ourselves, and
sometimes we even get caught! Our inner conversations
reveal the truth about ourselves. We really cannot hide
from ourselves, although we often pretend we can. By
conversing with ourselves, we find solutions to our
challenges, problem solve, work through our relationships,
formulate opinions, run through dress rehearsals of
possible conversations, and wrestle with and determine
our system of priorities and values. What other voices
affect the conversations we have with ourselves?

Often, voices from our past continue to haunt us. These
voices cause us to mistrust our judgment, harbor anger,
and cling to our fears of rejection, failure, being wrong,
and the like. It is in these inner conversations that we face
what holds us captive our limitations, weaknesses,
sinfulness, and stubborn ego preoccupations. We often go
about our lives putting out one fire or another, keeping
ourselves preoccupied and busy, and trying to stay on top
of things. Intentionally or unintentionally, we find ourselves
wandering off. We turn around and can no longer see our
home. We look down at our feet and realize we have lost
our anchor. Feeling scared, out of place, desolate,
unsettled, and lonely, we realize that we are lost.

We listened to the wrong voices! In the midst of everything
competing for our attention, the voice of the One who
could truly call us home got muffled. We didn’t hear it. As
our inner dialogues continue to play out, the one voice we
need to consult even before our own is God’s. He is
the Good Shepherd who can keep us safely where we
need to be. As we graze through the stuff of our lives, we
must constantly remember to look up, be attentive, and
stay focused. Our habits of prayer are the only thing that
can properly root us and keep us grounded.
Contemplating God’s presence and developing an inner
awareness of love incarnate, we will then find ourselves
praying unceasingly as the days and nights and the ebbs
and flows of our of lives unfold. Suddenly, the inner
conversations we are constantly having are no longer just
with ourselves or with voices that can lead us astray but
with the Trinity, who desperately wants us to stay home.

The Scammers are out in full force, trying to
take advantage of kind hearted people
during this difficult time. Fr. Jim and Fr. Sibi
are fine and will not at any time be asking
you for money or gift cards via email.
Please delete those email immediately and
do not respond. See the article below.

Consumer Alert: Scammers Impersonating
Pastors to Solicit Gift Cards
Attorney General Ken Paxton issued a consumer alert
regarding persons alleging to be priests or pastors,
texting members of the church and asking them to buy
gift cards for a false charitable cause.

Texans have received deceptive texts from people
pretending to be pastors, then requesting that they
purchase a gift card and send them the information to
access that card. The scammers claim these cards are
needed for some charitable reason, but insist they cannot
pick up a gift card themselves and the purchaser will be
reimbursed.

All Texans should be aware of unsolicited calls and texts
from scammers impersonating leaders of the church. We
believe that the scammers are using information found on
churches’ websites or bulletins. Churches throughout
Texas have seen reports of this scam.

Recognizing the Voice of Jesus

When my wireless provider introduced HD Voice, the
voice I heard on my phone was unbelievably clear, and it
felt at times like both the caller and I were in the same
room. The best aspect of this feature is that it didn’t cost
the customer any additional fees, and it didn’t require any
changes to the phone. I could say it was free, but I sus-
pect I was already paying for it in my monthly bill anyway.
At least it felt free.

The clearer the voice calling you, the easier it is to recog-
nize who it is on the other end of the line. In John’s Gos-
pel, Jesus speaks of the gatekeeper who opens the gate
and calls for his sheep. They respond because they know
his voice. Others try to lure the sheep when the gate-
keeper is not there, but the sheep find their voices un-
clear or unfamiliar.

Jesus is our gatekeeper. But unlike receiving something
for free from a wireless company, to be able to hear his
voice we need to pay attention and practice listening. By
developing a stewardship way of life that is mindful and
prayerful, we become attuned to his voice and are able to
discern when the call is from our Lord and when it is from
an imposter. It is great to talk about all the things we can
do and all the gifts we can share, but if we are not listen-
ing for his call to hear where our offerings are needed, we
can end up like a lost sheep searching for the gatekeep-
er.
