St. Katharine Drexel Mission Statement To continue the mission of Jesus through
prayer, service and sharing.
May 27, 2018 The Most Holy Trinity Sunday
Page 2 St. Katharine Drexel Parish | Kaukauna
God’s blessings! We celebrate the feast of “The Most Holy Trinity” this weekend, and also recognize Memorial Day on this holiday weekend, remembering our loved ones. In the Gospel from Matthew, Jesus said to his disciples, “All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.” Our Baptisms are Trinitarian: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. By our Baptism we are called to be Missionary Disciples, knowing God is with us always, starting right in our own families and communities.
We announced last weekend that Deacon Kyle Sladek, who will be ordained a priest on Saturday, June 30, will be assigned to St. Katharine Drexel Parish, and Holy Cross Parish, beginning Monday, July 16. We welcome Kyle with great joy! My wife Peggy and I met Kyle and his parents on Pentecost Sunday (last weekend). Kyle is currently serving as a “transitional” deacon at St. Mary of the Lake in Lakewood. All priests serve a year as a transitional deacon, on their journey to the priesthood. By comparison, Deacon Randy and I are serving as “permanent” deacons. Congratulations to Deacon Randy as he celebrates his 17th anniversary as a deacon next Saturday.
Thanks to Fr. Jim Vanden Hogen for his continued service to St. Katharine Drexel and other area parishes. Fr. Jim recently celebrated the 54th anniversary of his ordination. It is a time for lots of anniversaries. Next Sunday, at 8:30 Mass at St. Francis, we will commemo-rate 170 years since the first Mass in Hollandtown. Fr. Willie will preside and some festivities will follow. Thanks to Fr. Willie for his continued ongoing presence.
In our first reading from the Book of Deuteronomy, Moses tells the people, “You must know, and fix in your heart, that the Lord is God in the heavens above and on earth below, and that there is no other.” May this recognition reinforce our mission to be people of prayer, service and sharing, a life filled with gratitude, and an outpouring of hospitality.
An update on a couple of our projects: A committee led by Linda Pitt is reviewing quotes to repair our church organ. We received a gen-erous donation to finance that project. Janice Welhouse is spearheading efforts to upgrade our parish website. We thank Janice and Linda, and those assisting them.
Next weekend is the feast of “The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ” also referred to as the feast of “Corpus Christi”. This reminds us not to take the Eucharist for granted.
God bless, Deacon Steve

Trinity Sunday
Today we celebrate the relationships at the heart of our faith. As God eternally participates in the relationship of Father, Son and Spirit, we too participate in this sacred community and in the great historic sweep of God’s people
past, present, and future. Recent studies help us to realize the whole universe can be understood as an expression of the Trinity in time and space. This is also Memorial Day weekend. Let us remember all those who have died to preserve our county.

170 Years!! St. Francis Church Hollandtown
June 1848 - 2018
St. Katharine Drexel Parish recognizes that in June 1848 Fr. Godthardt at the first celebration Mass was in the open air and also under a tree. Soon, however, a small log hut was erect-ed. St. Francis Church in Hollandtown is one of the oldest worship sites in the Green Bay Diocese. Fr. Willard Van de Loo (a native son) will celebrate an anniversary Mass at 8:30 AM on Sunday, June 3, the Feast of Corpus Christi. After the 8:30 AM Mass there will be a reception at Van Abel's (Alley room) from 9:30 to 10:30 AM. Coffee, juice, donuts and bars will be served. On display will be some past articles and memorabilia of St. Francis Church.

WOW!! Where did May go? Let summer begin!! I always look at summer as the three months we have to do all the things we couldn’t the rest of the year. This time of year we are so busy that we don’t always take the time to just relax and take notice of God’s gifts. His gifts come in many different forms. I feel that our scrip program is one of God’s gifts to our parish. It’s a way we can earn money to fund the business of the parish. So I ask, you to take the time to enjoy God’s gifts this summer….all of them… including scrip.
