REFLECTING WITH THE PASTOR

The language of love… The very title of today’s feast… The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity…sounds so heady that we might wonder if our feet are supposed to touch the ground. What is the point of the feast? We are called to praise God as the Father who so wanted to be known that Jesus became human. We are called to recognize God who so desires that we share divine life that the Spirit continues to lure us into union with one another and with God. Quite simply… this is the feast of God’s love and how that love reaches out to all humanity.

As Christians, we are unique among the major religions in calling on God as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. In our attempts to talk about God we partake of the basic human desire to seek relationship not only with one another but also with the One who is beyond us. When we speak of three persons in God, we profess that God’s very being is communal in ways we can never fully comprehend. The mystery of the Trinity speaks of God’s outreach to humanity from Creation to the Incarnation and the Spirit’s ongoing presence among us. God’s wants to be known by us… God wants to share divine life with us.

Take some time today and look at the relationships in your life. Thank God for your family, your friends, your coworkers, and all who cross your path. As you celebrate and enjoy these relationships and friendships… celebrate a God who is madly in love with you!

WORSHIPPING WELL! THE GATHERING RITE PART IV

The Conclusion of the Gathering Rite: There are at least three moments in these gathering rites when we have to do our work well. First, we sing. The song at the beginning of the liturgy is for all of us. It lets us know we are not in this room alone. We hear this news: A whole assembly is processing into this liturgy together. We sing to hear each other, to let our voice — good or poor as it is — get lost with all the other voices. We sing to signal the transition into communal activity. Second, we make the sign of the cross. This simple gesture stands at the beginning of the liturgy because it stands at the beginning of the Christian life. The baby and the catechumen are claimed for Christ with this sign. It proclaims who we are and whose we are. We make it deliberately, with care. Remember, the liturgy is not what the priest who presides is doing: The liturgy is what the people are doing. The liturgy is this sign of the cross. Third, just before the first reading, we pray. Sometimes we talk as if the whole liturgy is a prayer, but really there are all kinds of things that happen in the liturgy, and prayer is one of them. So we come to the moment when the presider first says, “Let us pray.” Then we should be quiet together, be still and calm and aware of all these people silent and praying together. In the silence, simply prepare to pray. Then attend to the words of the prayer that is spoken by the presider and, if you can agree that this is indeed our common prayer, join in saying Amen.

2016 WEDDING ANNIVERSARY MASS

USHERS NEEDED

We are in need of a few friendly men and women to join us as ushers, age is no barrier. These individuals are needed, not just for the collection, but for providing a warm smile and assistance to fellow parishioners as they come in for Mass. A short training meeting will be held in June after the 11:15am Mass. See the bulletin for more information.

There is also a service for each and every person in our Church to perform. When you come to Mass, please join in making our entire body feel welcome. When a new person or family arrives, can you slide over to make room? If not, would you invite them to join you in your pew and whisper good morning? Everyone, no matter who or when, is loved and wanted. Please wear your love on your sleeve.

If you would be interested in becoming a new welcoming usher, please contact Sharon by emailing [email protected] or calling (815)316-9792, and thanks to everyone for your help.

ST. SUSANNA FAMILY FESTIVALSeptember 9, 10, & 11

The best way to support the Festival, right here and right now, is to sell raffle tickets. Have you picked up your packet of raffle tickets for your family? In

the gathering space, there are packets on the tables near the bulletin boards in the hallway and at the Information Desk. The first Early Bird Drawing is June 27th. Proceeds from pre-Festival sale of raffle tickets help to defray cost of expenses that occur before the actual days of the event.

Each year the Festival depends upon the skills of dozens of Booth Chairs to coordinate the more than 50 different booths. Many chairs return year after year to look after their favorite food, beverage, kid, raffle, game of chance or specialty booth. Booth Chairs are supported by a network of coordinators who help them make sure that the booth is stocked with supplies, filled with volunteers and tucked away again at the end of Festival weekend. Are you looking for a place in the parish to lend a hand? The Festival Committee would love to provide you with that place! Booth chairpersons are needed in the Food and Games of Chance areas.

To offer your time as a Food Booth Chairperson contact Maria Nicolls, [email protected] or 253-3994. To offer your time as a Game of Chance Booth Chairperson contact Brian Gilligan, [email protected] or 484-8947.

CAREGIVER SUPPORT GROUP

You are a caregiver whether you devote as much as 24 hours a day, or as little as 5 minutes a week to someone you care for! Please join us the 4th Wednesday of every month in the St. Susanna undercroft as we explore caregiving topics together.

This month we are meeting on May 25th from 7pm-8:30pm. The topic of Elder Law will be presented by Molly Stegman, JD, attorney and parishioner of St. Susanna. Molly will discuss a variety of legal issues from long term care issues, advance directives and other issues that affect the aging population. Any questions, please contact Sharon Kipfer, (513) 509-3278.

St. Susanna is teaming up with Habitat for Humanity on June 25th from 8:30am-4:00pm. We will be working on two homes in East Price Hill. Individuals, 16 years of age or older, are needed to assist this nonprofit Christian housing ministry. No prior experience in home building/finishing work is needed, just a desire to be the Hands of Christ to insure a safe and affordable place for families to live.

For more information or to obtain information on how to sign up, please contact Mary Jo Burns, [email protected] or 398-3821 ext. 3120. Online registration must be completed by June 17th.

PARISH GARAGE SALE Scheduled for June 24 and 25

Have you ever wondered what the Women’s Association does with the money raised by this annual two-day sale? It is used for special needs for the Parish. A few of the items purchased within the last year include liturgical banners for the Church, lights and remote for the Stations of the Cross, a microphone system for the Meyer Center, and t-shirts for the Children’s Choir. Ongoing projects include the Baptismal garments made and embroidered and given to each Baptismal recipient and regular donations to the Schuh Center Food Bank. Please keep the Parish Garage Sale in mind while you are doing your spring cleanup and set aside all your unneeded and unwanted articles to donate to the sale. Without the generosity of the Parish, the sale cannot be a success.Donations will be accepted at the Meyer Center beginning on Saturday, June 18.

Anything reusable is welcome: Household items, knick-knacks, clothing, toys, books, furniture, baby items, tools. Please note that mattresses, refrigerators, freezers, TVs, computers, large exercise equipment, and large office furniture and entertainment centers cannot be accepted. Please contact Christine Phelan at 513-492-7265 or [email protected] with any questions or to volunteer.

SHUH CENTER NEEDS

Help Beat the Heat! With the change in seasons, the hot and humid weather will quickly be upon us. Many in our parish boundaries do not have the luxury of having air conditioning or for that matter even a fan to help battle the summer heat. You can change that by donating new or gently used fans to the Schuh Center. The fans will then be distributed to those in need of one. Fans can be delivered to the Peace and Justice Kiosk in the Gathering Space of church. Direct questions to Mary Jo Burns, ext. 3210, or [email protected].

Food Donations! Soon the students will be home for the summer. For those who are struggling financially, purchasing the extra food needed to feed their children can be very

stressful. Many depend upon pantries for food items to get through the summer months.

Immediate needs at the Schuh Center are: • Instant Oatmeal• Boxed Mashed Potatoes• Chili• Snack Items (i.e. peanut butter/cheese crackers, poptarts, breakfast bars, peanut butter, etc.) • ALL donations are greatly appreciated!

RUN FOR THE POOR

The 24th annual St. Vincent de Paul Run for the Poor will be held on June 11, 2016. Won't you join us? The 5K Run and Fitness walk begins and ends at St. Elizabeth Seton Church, 5900 Buckwheat Rd. in Milford, Ohio. Start time is 9:00am. No one is too slow or too fast! Go to www.runforthepoor.org for more information and to register by June 3rd.

Come join Young at Heart for friendship and good food! Our next Young at Heart luncheon will be at The Houston Inn at 12:00 noon on June 15th. Entree choices are roast beef, chicken,

or salmon for $13.75 or salad bar for $11.20. The price includes drinks and tax but NOT tip. We will be paying at the restaurant. Reservations are due in the parish office no later than Thursday, June 9th. We will be turning in the final number on Friday, June 10th. For questions call Gretchen Osner at 398-4820.

T here was a period in my life when I thought I knew everything and that my way was the only way to go. The

opinions of my parents and friends were po-litely (and sometimes not so politely) set aside. I blithely followed my own advice and did my own thing until time, matu-rity, and a few uncomfortable situations helped me to ac-quire a little humility. Even now, to be com-pletely honest, I must admit to suffering a relapse from time to time. Is there any-one who hasn’t oc-casionally thought, “Be reasonable: do it my way?”

We tend to think we know what’s best for us and for others. We rely on our experience and intelligence. Sometimes we’re right; often we are wrong. When our self-confi dence and power become more important than the truth and common good, we easily verge into arrogance and stubbornness. Jesus reminds us that the Holy Spirit, whom he calls the Spirit of Truth, is the ultimate guide.

In choosing to follow the Spirit and accept-ing Christ’s authority, we admit that we do not know it all and that we are not the greatest.

Our Creed is built on this acceptance. From our fi rst profession of faith, we stand in humble

awareness that God alone knows it all and desires what is best

for us and the whole world. This “best”

includes a God who is an everlasting

r e l a t i o n s h i p -i n - b e i n g : Three Persons who were at thebeginning, are now, and ever

shall be. Our cel-ebration of the

Trinity should in-clude a giving thanks

for the wisdom that comes from union with God and his

Church.

A Word From Pope Francis“True love is boundless, but it knows how to limit itself, to interact with others, to respect the freedom of others. Every Sunday we go to Mass, we celebrate the Eucharist together and the Eucharist is like the ‘burning bush’ in which the Trinity humbly lives and communicates.”
