Celebrate May The month of May is filled with reasons to cele-brate, especially in our schools. May 2 - 6 is Teacher Appreciation Week . The National PTA says “Teachers are real life superheroes. They educate, innovate, encourage and support. Every
day they touch the lives of millions of children and their work and impact ex-tends far beyond the boundaries of the classroom.” School Nutrition Employee Week is also May 2-6, with School Lunch Hero Day on the 6th! Be-tween preparing healthy meals for students, ad-
hering to strict nutrition guidelines, navigating student food allergies and offering service with a smile, school nutrition professionals are true he-roes. So be sure to thank your favorite lunch hero! National Nurses Week is May 6-12 with School Nurses Day on May 11th. Nurses are dedicated and caring individuals, including the ones looking after our students. Be sure to recognize your school’s nurses for all that they do. Also, click on the photo of “Building Strong Children” for a couple of great PDFs with more information. Cinco de Mayo, Mother’s Day and Memorial Day, just to name a few, are also on this month’s calendar.

IMPORTANT - Don’t Procrastinate Licensure - Want to save $500? Be sure to
check your renewal date! And don’t wait until June twenty-something! Each year many people experience issues during that final week when the system can get bogged down! Get ahead of the rush - you’ll be glad you did!
Fingerprinting - Each year from mid-August
through September we are very busy with finger-printing new hires, etc.! Plus, since all schools in the state are experiencing the same influx, the results often take longer than normal getting re-turned. So if you know that you are going to need printed (applying for sub position or if someone you know needs to be printed for any reason) we encourage you to schedule that appointment to get it done soon. We do expand our appoint-ment hours during that time frame, however …

IMPORTANT … (continued from page 1) … people sometimes still find it difficult to get in when they want and schools can’t get the background results back as quickly as they need, if everyone waits til late August. We will be scheduling appointments for fingerprinting throughout the summer.
Administrators and HR - Now is a great time to send in your info
about staff openings in your district for the upcoming school year! It is not limited to educators—we are happy to include ANY staff openings on our site throughout the year. We do have people use the “Employment Op-portunities” page and ask us if we know of any openings in our schools. And we recommend that people watch that page when they ask us if we know of anything available.

Family Engagement Family Engagement will be a core princi-ple of ESSA in 2017/18. ISBE has devel-oped Family Engagement modules to as-sist schools with understanding what is ef-fective family engagement. Seventy-six per cent of Illinois schools agree they are not engaging families in ways that increase stu-dent outcomes. The ISBE Family Engage-ment Trainings have been developed by a cross sectional team of ISBE, the American Institute for Research, and the Academic Development Institute and are aligned to ESSA standards. Professional Development (2 CPDUs each) are offered for each of the three modules: the Framework, Collaborative Ap-proach to Family Engagement, and Cultural Diversity. The first module, The Framework, will be offered June 8, from 9:00 to 11:00 at the Carlinville ROE. The second module, The Collaborative Approach, will be offered June 8 from 1:00 to 3:00. The third module will be offered June 13, 2016, Cultural Competency, from 9:00 to 11:00. Each PD is limited to 15 participants. Participants must register online. Go to www.roe40.com, click on Our Services, click on Educators, then Professional De-velopment, click on Calendar and Register for the selected PD.

What do you think of our Newsletter? I work in the Carlinville office of ROE #40, and one of my duties is putting together this newsletter and sending it out each month. Over 90% (over 1400) of the mailing list is all of the staff in the ROE #40 schools that have school e-mails. (The districts update this for me at the first of each school year.) So my goal is to include items relevant to YOU - school staff. This is the final issue of News For You until September. If you can spare a mo-ment, I’d love to hear from you. Good, bad or ugly -I can take it! Just drop me a note! Do you read at least some of it each
month? Is the information provided helpful/
interesting? Is there something missing or that you
would like to see more of? Would you be willing to provide me with
info or an article to share with all of our dis-tricts next year?
Have a fantastic summer! JuDee Lair, Admin Assist
S As we are about to send our students off for the sum-
mer, it’s a great time to remind them that we want to
see them back next year!
Do an activity, read a story, or just talk with them
(especially the younger students) about “Stranger Dan-
ger”, wandering off alone or without telling a family
member where they are going.
Bicycle Safety
Ride in single file and use hand signals
Wear a helmet, and bright clothing in daylight and
reflective clothing at night
Make sure you have white front reflector and red
rear reflector, as well as reflectors on spokes and
pedals.
