BEST OF BONNERS

An easy way for a small business to expand its marketing budget is through cooperative advertising. Cooperative advertising, or as sometimes abbreviated “Co-op”, is when a producer of goods, for use by

service providers or for resale, reimburses the advertising business in part or in full for advertising expenditures that involves its products. These programs are widely available because quite simply they save the producers of goods money. Bottom line is that local advertising rates available to the advertising business are at least 20% lower than national advertising rates. Therefore, the benefit for the producers of goods is increased brand recognition within that market at the lower local advertising rates, enhanced reseller relations and much more.

However, cooperative advertising programs are an integral part of the producers own strategic marketing plan and for this reason they may not only vary from producer to producer but from product to product. Also, because these programs are an integral part of the producers strategic marketing plan, stringent rules and regulations are often placed on cooperative advertising dollars. These rules and regulations may cover media channels chosen, product placement, ad positioning and size and much more.

Cooperative advertising is a win/win proposition for the producer and advertising business. These programs allow producers to increase brand recognition in the market at the much lower local advertising rates and allow the advertising business to increase its marketing budget at no additional cost to the business. All small businesses should actively pursue these valuable cooperative advertising opportunities.

The Bonners Ferry Chamber of Commerce held its “Premier” Downtown Block Party on May 10, 2012; it was an incredible event

that kicked off a new era for Bonners Ferry Businesses. The concept is unique as the Downtown businesses and South Hill business will rotate the events with Downtown businesses holding the first event. The South Hill businesses turn will be next quarter, in August. “This is a way to get businesses together in a positive way while reaching out to the community as a whole,” said Wendy Hawks from Riverside Auto Center. The event started at 6pm and lasted until 9pm. There was live music, food and beverages, gifts, raffles and more. The event was held at Riverside Auto Center and was hosted by Mountain West Bank, Boundary Abstract and Riverside Auto Center. Food and beverages were provided by Mugsy’s Tavern and Grill, the Kootenai River Inn, KR Brewing Company, Under the Sun and Huckleberry Variety. Not only was this a fun night, new chamber members were welcomed in starting with Fry Healthcare Foundation, Brian Strong State Farm, Kootenai River Brewing Company and Like-Media, publishers of the Bonners Ferry Newsline. All and all the event, soon to be a Bonners Ferry tradition was a hit, as Brett Brown, South hill business member and manager of Safeway commented, “The girls sure set the bar high, this will be a tough act to follow.”

Nothing Like a Vegetarian DietDIET RICH IN NUTRIENTS

These days you will find many people looking for options for making their diet rich in nutrients. The food pyramid is like a tool that will ensure that you have a healthy diet. There are different ways of

illustrating a healthy diet plan but the most accepted way is in the shape of the pyramid. Food pyramids have been used by dieticians and even doctors for outlining different food groups as well as food choices, which will lay the foundation for a healthy intake of food if taken in right proportion.

The Food PyramidToday there are several types of food pyramids available and this might confuse you as you might not know which ones to choose. But the good thing is that the basic principles of different food pyramids are same and focus on the following:

1. Eat as much fruits as possible with fresh vegetables and whole grains

2. Reduce the intake of trans fat, saturated fat, and cholesterol as much as possible

3. Limit the intake of salt and sweets4. Avoid alcohol or drink in moderation5. Control the total number of calories consumed by you

on a daily basis6. Physical activity is a must

The Four Main Categories of Vegetarian:i. Flexitarians: These people are also known as semi-vegetarians and they follow a plant-based diet normally and sometimes consume smaller quantities of poultry, meat and fish.ii. Vegans: Vegans are pure vegetarian who will consume only plant-based foods. They will not consume any animal-derived food like eggs, cheese, meat, milk and fish.iii. Lacto-Ovo Vegetarians: This comprises of people who

consume milk, eggs, and any milk products like yogurt and cheese apart from plant-based foods. Lacto-ovo vegetarians don’t consume fish and red meat.iv. Lacto-Vegetarians: Lacto-vegetarians consume only milk and milk based products apart from plant-based foods. They don’t consume fish, eggs, meat and other poultry products.

A healthy diet includes mostly fibrous food, which is in the form of fresh vegetables and fruits. Some of the important nutrients available through non-meat sources include:

i. Protein: The human body requires a lot of protein for maintaining healthy bones, skin, muscles and other organs. Some of the food products that are high in proteins include legumes, soy products, lentils, seeds, nuts and whole grains.ii. Vitamin B-12: The human body requires vitamin B-12 for producing red blood cells and to prevent anemia. Vitamin B-12 is found in some of the enriched cereals, or fortified soy products.iii. Calcium: Calcium is required mostly for strengthening the bones and to make the teeth stronger. You can find calcium in most of the green vegetables like turnip, spinach, collard greens, broccoli and kale.iv. Iron: Iron is a crucial nutrient that is required for red blood cells. You can consume iron by eating peas, dry beans, lentils, whole-grain products, fruits like bananas, dark leafy green vegetables, enriched cereals, and even dry fruit. You can also consume foods, which are rich in vitamin C like citrus fruits, strawberries, tomatoes, broccoli and cabbage.v. Zinc: This is an important nutrient that builds enzymes in the human body for enhancing the process of cell division and also helps in the formation of proteins. Some of the best food sources for zinc include soy products, whole grains, nuts and wheat germ.

All About Senior Life InsuranceBENEFITS OF CHOOSING THE RIGHT SENIOR LIFE INSURANCE

In young age you are energetic, full of glamour and perfection, but with time they all fade away. This is nature’s law and you should happily accept this changing phase in your lifetime. As you grow old, your body gets

easily susceptible to various physical ailments - you may need to go regularly to the hospital; do various tests and then undergo treatments. All of these can cost you a fortune. To make yourself feel safe in old age, you should get senior life insurance.

Senior life insurance pays for almost all the major mishaps in an individual’s life. If you are suffering from a chronic disease, senior life insurance will bear your medical expenses. Senior citizens are most susceptible in regard to illness; hence, many government corporations and private companies provide senior life insurances. Life insurance policies even provide money for funerals and other ceremonies after death. So each and every senior citizen should go for a senior life insurance.

Senior life insurance can be obtained for people in the age group of 55-75. You should do a bit of research work before buying your policy to know the authenticity and reputation of that company or discuss with an expert before choosing a senior life insurance.

Some Benefits of Choosing the Right Senior Life Insurance

Ours is a “working” club...we drive our cars to shows and events through-out Idaho, Montana, Washington and British Columbia. The Rod Benders cars put some rubber on the road and in spite of the hazards of driving a lot of miles, our cars still bring home awards and accolades wherever we attend. Club Official Business meeting night is the second Wednesday of each month at 5:30pm in the Chic ‘N Chop Restaurant located just south of Bon-ners Ferry on Highway 95. You’ll find several club members gathered each and every Wednesday just to enjoy the strong camaraderie that prevails in our club at the Chic ‘N Chop or some other spontaneous cruise site.

ACTIVITIES AND FUN

WALK THE LINEA cop is doing standard patrol when he notices a car swerving all over the road. He quickly turns on his siren and pulls the guy over. “Alright,” says the cop, when the man gets out of the car. “Walk in a straight line.” “I’d be happy to,” says the drunk “just stop moving the stupid line.”

NEW DRUM SETIt was Timmy’s 5th birthday and he was joyfully opening all the presents he received. He saved the biggest for last, so it took a while until he got to opening Grandma’s present. “Wow” Timmy exclaimed in delight, upon seeing the mini drum set that his Grandmother got for him. “Thanks Grandma this is just what I wanted.” It was after Timmy went to bed that Timmy’s mother approached her mother. “Ma, I’m surprised at you, don’t you remember how it used to drive you crazy when we used to play the drums in the house growing up?” Grandma smiled and then said “I remember, of course I remember.”

EYE DOCTORI was very scared about going to the eye doctor to get a certain procedure done on my eyes. The doctor tried to put me at ease but to no avail. It was after he finished with my first eye that I nearly jumped out of the chair when he said “There there, only one eye left!”

BUSINESS DINNERThe business I work for had a dinner together with all family members. Before the first speech, the emcee gave the following announcement, “We kindly ask if you can please put all cell phones and children on silenced”.

VEGETARIAN SOCIETYThe leader of the vegetarian society just couldn’t control himself anymore. He just needed to try some pork, just to see what it tasted like. So one summer day he told his members he was going on a vacation. He packed out of town, and headed to the nearest restaurant. After sitting down, he ordered a roasted pig, and impatiently waited for his delicacy. After just a few minutes, he heard someone call his name, and to his great surprise he saw one of his fellow members walking towards him. Just at that same moment, the waiter walked over, with a huge platter, holding a full roasted pig with an apple in it’s mouth. “Isn’t that something,” says the leader after only a moments pause, “all I do is order an apple, and look what it comes with!”

NERVOUS DAD“Just relax”, the hospital staff kept telling Jim, but it was to no avail. Jim’s wife was in labor and Jim was a nervous wreck. After what seemed like a week, to both Jim and the hospital staff, a nurse came out with the happy news, “it’s a girl”, she cried. “Thank goodness, a girl”, said Jim, “at least she won’t have to go through what I just went through!”

HOT IRONA young man entered the emergency room with his two ears burned. “What happened?” asked the doctor. “Well”, the man explained, “my wife was ironing clothing behind my chair while I was watching TV. She put down the iron next to the phone and when the phone rang I answered the iron.” “Wow that is terrible” responded the doctor, “and what happened to your other ear?” “Well” the young guy responded “Right afterwards, the phone rang again!”
