2D MAINTENANCE BN May 2011 Newsletter

I am glad to know no one from 2d Maintenance Battalion was seriously

injured during the recent tornado that passed through Jacksonville, North

Carolina. Minus damage to property, everyone is fine and returning to normal

(Great News). As always, I thank the unselfish families of those either de-

ployed or preparing to deploy for supporting our Marines and Sailors. De-

ployments are never easy and require tremendous patience, sacrifices, and

teamwork....We are fortunate to have a reliable and effective support network

within 2d Maintenance Battalion. Our Marines and Sailors in Afghanistan recently celebrated 30 official days

as the Marine Air Ground Task Force Support Battalion -- though many of

your loved ones have been away longer -- and I continue receiving positive

comments from senior leaders and supported units on how superior our Ma-

rines and Sailors are performing. This is remarkable, and you should be just

as proud of your Marines and Sailors as I am. Please continue writing letters,

sending emails, pictures, texts, care packages, and most important, remain

supportive and understanding all times. I would like to wish a special and joyous Happy Mother's Day in advance. Please enjoy Summer, and all of us anxiously look forward to returning to

Friends and Family of General Support Motor Transport Company (Fwd),

The first full month of our deployment in Afghanistan is almost complete. This has

been a very productive month for GSMT Company. All of the hard training we

went through as a company during the winter has really paid off. We have com-

pleted many successful missions providing much needed supplies to the Marines

and Sailors throughout our area of operation in southeast Afghanistan. All of the

Marines and Sailors have been working very hard and you should all be very proud

of the jobs the men and women have completed thus far. I know our Marines and

Sailors will keep up their hard work, as this will promise to be an extremely pro-

ductive deployment. Please check out our Battalion‘s Facebook page for pictures

and updates of your Marines and Sailors!

Thank you to all of you who attended our last social event at Jump In Jax. We had a

great turnout! It was good to see the children having such an enjoyable time. It was

also a good opportunity to meet some new friends. We plan to have another event at

Jumping Jacks in June.

There are numerous social events planned for the upcoming months. A few of the

upcoming events are MLG Family Day, Jane Wayne Day, In the Midst (adult) and Kids

in the Midst. Each of these events offers the opportunity to meet others as well as

learn something new about the Marine Corps. Even if you do not want to get involved

in the social events, I encourage you to at least attend one event so that you can see for

yourself what really goes on. You might find a lot of people have the same interests as

you. Please review the Battalion Facebook page for events and also our Google calen-

dar. Upcoming events are provided at these sites.

The All Ranks 2nd Maintenance Battalion Ball will be held November 12, 2011.

Tickets are on sale at the Company offices. Childcare will be provided free of charge

on site. More information is provided on facebook.

Friends and families of Maintenance Company,

I would like to start by telling you that your Marines have done an ex-

traordinary job since their arrival in March. Every task placed before

them has not only been completed, it has been completed beyond ex-

pectations. Mission accomplishment is at the forefront of their minds. I

am very proud, privileged and honored to serve with your Marines.

With the Company’s fast maintenance tempo, we had the opportunity

to promote the following Marines on 1 April for their hard work and

dedication to the Marine Corps: Sgt Eric J. Grandjean, Sgt Darrel A.

Johnson Jr., Sgt John P. Mclaughlin, Cpl Kline C. Dewire, Cpl Michael

J. Donato, Cpl Jose A.gil, Cpl Travis L. Haddix, Cpl Joshua M.

Minnichbach, Cpl Gregory B. Stevens, and Cpl Jayson E. Stevens.

Also the company was thrilled and privileged to witness MGySgt John

H. Wilber and GySgt Karpovich raise their right hand and reaffirm

their oath to support and defend the constitution of the United States for

another three/four years. These actions truly reflect the Marines’ pa-

triotism and dedication to the service of their country protecting the

opportunities and freedom it represents.

I would like to personally thank the families and love ones for all the

support and sacrifices you make. Your Marines are successfully ac-

complishing the mission at hand because of your love and support.

Please continue to support your Marines and keep them in your

thoughts and prayers.

This is our first newsletter and I would like to say greetings to all of Maintenance

Company‘s families and friends. This past month has been very busy, but produc-

tive for all sections within Maintenance Company. The Marines are doing in-

credible things here repairing and maintaining a vast amount of equipment and

machinery. It is a true honor and privilege to be serving along side them.

The weather is starting to get warmer here in Afghanistan. We are ready for the

summer months.

Mail is a big morale booster out here for the Marines. It doesn‘t matter if it is a

care package or a simple letter, getting something from the outside world always

seems to brighten a Marines day. Keep it coming!

We could not do what we do out here without the love and support from our fami-

lies and friends. I look forward to personally thanking you all for being there for your Marine. We are one month down with five more to go.

Time is flying by for us and your Warriors will be home before you

know it.

Supply Company CO

Dear Friends and Family of Supply Company,

The last month has really flown by as your Marines and Sailors are staying busy working a titanic number of hours in order to sup-

port approximately 50 coalition units in theater. I am proud of each and every one of them and am truly blessed to be serving with

your family members. I would like to take the time to thank each of you for your continued support of your service member. It does

not go unnoticed.

I would like to give you a little snapshot of life on deployment - This past Sunday the chow halls on Camp Leatherneck put on an

excellent Easter Meal and we are thankful to have such great facilities on base. The living conditions here are excellent when com-

pared to a lot of the other bases around the theater. Camp Leatherneck has a Post Exchange, several MWR tents, a USO facility, a

plethora of gyms and several chow halls for your loved one to choose from. Camp Bastion (the British Based co-located to Camp

Leatherneck) also boasts several coffee shops and an Afghan Bazaar that service members can enjoy. Though we work very hard

Monday through Saturday, Sunday is a half-day so that we can get some rest and re-charge our batteries.

In closing, I am excited about the coming months working with your loved ones and getting the mission accomplished here in Op-

eration Enduring Freedom. They are all working hard, doing great things and before you know it we will be back home to good old

Camp Lejeune. Take care and we look forward to updating you again of our accomplishments next month.

Greetings family and friends from your Marines and Sailors in Afghanistan.

We hope you all enjoyed a Happy Easter. We hope all is well on the home front with the storm that came through the areas of Piney

Green and Tarawa Terrace a couple of weeks ago and wishing those communities a speedy recovery. Your Marines and sailors are

doing extremely well here at Camp Leatherneck, Afghanistan. We are providing vital supplies and support to all of our war fighters

throughout the area of operation. The summer months are approaching and the temperatures probably will stay in the triple digits

throughout the day. We are all settling into our routines and working hard and keeping busy day-in and day-out, which is making

time go by quickly. We‘ll be home before you know it. The coming months our operational tempo and work load will pick up tre-

mendously and our Marines and Sailors are up to the challenge. Your Marines and Sailors have been working hard this month to

improve our supply and distribution processes to provide better support and to prepare for a smooth transition with the Marines and

Sailors that will eventually take our place.

of Alpha Surgical Company have been doing an amazing job.

Every task placed before them has not only been completed, it

has been completed beyond expectations. Mission accomplish-

ment is at the forefront of their minds, of which their hard work

can attest, and the fruits of their labor are visible every single

day. As the weather is rapidly turning warmer here Alpha Sur-

gical continues its mission of providing quality care to all of

our patients. The influx of mail and packages keeps our spirits

lifted and provides a needed touch of home. I would like to per-

sonally thank the wives, husbands, mothers, fathers, and friends

for all the prayers, support, and well wishes that we have re-

ceived since arriving in Afghanistan. There is no way that we

could continue to do what we do without your support. Please

continue to encourage your Sailor or Marine and keep in them

in your thoughts and prayers.

2D MAINTBN Jane Wayne Day on Monday, June 6th 2011 from 0730 to 1530 CHILDCARE

Families can utilize any one of our centers, however please use the hourly care center Hadnot Point CDC. Space is limited and is on

a first come first serve basis. Call the centers directly to make your reservations for childcare. We'll cover the cost of childcare for

anyone using our CDC's or provide "free" childcare. The "free" childcare will be applicable to hourly childcare only. A family

attending Jane Wayne Day enrolled in a full time program will not receive a credit to the "full time" program fees. For the hourly

care "free" childcare will include a half hour before and after the times listed below (to allow for drive times). Please call early and

make reservations. You can call as early as 23 May. When making reservations identify yourselves as attending the "2D

MAINTBN Jane Wayne Day‖ (*very important, this pertains to the payment). You MUST identify yourselves as being with your

group to receive "free" childcare.

sional childcare for our military families, whether at one of the Child

Development Centers or in a Family Childcare provider‘s home on

Camp Lejeune.

Authorized childcare providers will:

• Have an authorized Family Childcare Provider sign posted in

the window

• Ask the parent to give them the “Provider’s Packet” and show

your white registration card received from the Children,
