Food allergies can and do result in Anaphylactic Shock which can be fatal if not

managed. Recently Jenny Farquhar (4/5 F) a teacher in our school experienced the

death of her sister due to Anaphylaxis. This was a mum of two school-aged children.

A tragedy as the Anaphylaxis was undiagnosed.

We currently have five students with Anaphylaxis. Two of these are allergic to nuts, a

food allergy. Our staff recently undertook training and were reminded as to the need

to manage the risks of a reaction to the best of our ability. To achieve this we need

parents to acknowledge and assist us by not having nuts or nut products in lunches or

snacks. Nutella, peanut butter and other products are to be enjoyed at home where

there are no risks to our students with Anaphylaxis. Students are encouraged not to

share food however, if we want to make it safe, we need to be Nut Free. If there are

special circumstances that you need to discuss with me, please do not hesitate to

come in so that we can map a safe plan. For the safety and wellbeing of students at

our school, we need to be responsible and for us this we need to endeavour to be

NUT FREE.

This tragedy is a timely reminder of the vigilance needed for the safety of the

students.

If your child is absent from school please phone the office or enter on FlexiBuzz

(school app formally Tiqbiz) this only takes a moment and ensures that we know

where your child is. High rates of school absence are reviewed by the Department of

Education as absences do affect learning. We flag that it is “Not OK to Be Away”

however are very aware that sick children should be kept at home. If no contact the

absence in un approved and these are the concerning absences. Information on how

to download FlexiBuzz is available from the office.

The Golden Plains Shire have undertaken another inspection of the senior playground

(which is their responsibility) and the repairs are flagged to be completed. We hope to

see a timely response to the playground. Weekend vandals pulled down the safety

mesh, which is disappointing, but we are unable to police what happens over the

weekends.

Haddon - After School Care

I would like to introduce the staff working at your local Outside School Hours Care venue.

Nicole Hardy has been working within the childcare industry since High school when 2 mornings a week she would

work at the Ballarat North Childcare centre in Armstrong Street North, Ballarat. Since High school Nicole has

undertaken different qualifications, including Advanced Teachers Aide and Advanced Intergration Aide as well as a

Diploma in Children’s Services. Nicole has been in charge of multiple sites with the Ballarat YMCA as the Director

of Childrens Services where she oversaw Ballarat and Mildura Outside School Hours Care which included before

school and after school care as well as holiday programs.

Cheryl Muir has been working within the childcare industry since 2014. The majority of her work has been within

the Outside School Care industry as well as working casually within Child Care centres in the Ballarat area. Cheryl

has a Diploma in Children’s Services.

Nicole started working at Haddon Primary School as a Family Day Care – in venue care program. As numbers grew

so was the need for the program to expand to a full After School Care Program.

A program is set up on a weekly basis that includes the developmental needs and interests of the children

attending our centre.

Places are available at After School Care on a permanent or casual basis. This means that as long as we have an

enrolment form and you are on the system for After School Care, Nicole is able to make a casual booking on the

day, as long as there are spaces available . These spaces are limited.

Activities the children have been doing this term include: Cooking, making playdough, Mothers / Special Person

Day activities which involved the children decorating a nice pot plant and then planting their own plant and taking

care of it to give to mum/special person on their special day. Painting plaster and generally just having lots of fun.

You may have seen the name "FlexiBuzz" and noticed a change in logo when you visit your Tiqbiz app or desktop site. This is the result of the recent purchase of Tiqbiz by InLoop Pty Ltd, an Australian tech company with leading brands including Flexischools. We will be continuing to use the app to communicate with you and FlexiBuzz will retain all of the features that were available with Tiqbiz. To ensure you have the most up-to-date version of the app we would recommend running the app update as soon as possible. If you are using the desktop site, you will now go to web.flexibuzz.com.
