Let us help them to hear God call by encouraging a strong prayer life. Let us deepen their love for Christs Church by our own activity in the parish and positive attitudes about the Church. Living, then, as Intentional Disciples, we not only faithfully follow the Lord, but also assist those closest to us to become Intentional Disciples themselves. When those Intentional Disciples hear and respond to the Shepherds voice to become priests or religious brothers or sisters, then his Flock receives this demonstration of the closeness of our Good Shepherd. May the Lord continue shepherding us through holy priests and bishops and provide enough for the abundant harvest. In the Love and Joy of our Risen Lord, Fr. Allan F. Wolfe The Good Shepherd Dear People and Friends of Saint Josephs, Christ is Risen! Truly, He is Risen! Alleluia! Alleluia! The Lord Jesus has told us, I am the Good Shepherd.Never did he say that he was our King or our Ruler, because a king or a ruler functions from a position of power. Although the Lord Jesus has ultimate power, he, instead, is motivated by Divine Love. Therefore, he relates to us from the perspective of love--guiding, protecting, teaching and sustaining us. In loving us, his sheep, he wants and offers what is best for us. A shepherd leads his sheep by walking in front of them, leading and guiding the flock to green and safe pastures. The sheep follow the shepherd; he does not push them from behind. Jesus Christ, the Good Shepherd, leads and guides us to fullness of life, both in his teaching and in his example. Respecting our free will as an essential quality of our human nature, the Lord does not push or force; he leads and guides. We are even able to go another way, even if that other way means death. Notice the quality of the relationship between the Good Shepherd and the sheep: "My sheep hear my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish. The Risen Lord, our Good Shepherd, continues to guide his flock although ascended to the right hand of his heavenly Father. He does so through the ministers of his Church. Bishops, as the successors of the Apostles, shepherd the diocesan flock entrusted to them by teaching, sanctifying and guiding. Priests, as co-workers with the bishops, assist the bishops in these all- important ways of shepherding. Deacons, configured to Christ the Servant, serve the Flock of Christ. Christs care for us continues in clear and concrete ways through the men God has chosen to be shepherds and servants of His flock. And through these ways—his Word, the Sacraments, the Church—the Lord fulfills his promise that he would be with us until the end of time. These chosen men, called to be bishops, priests and deacons, come from families like yours. In fact, family life either fosters an openness to this sacred call, or can be a hindrance. Priestly vocations are not primarily a gift for the individual man, but rather a necessary service to the Christian community, who needs clear models and experiences of the Good Shepherd to encourage us. Consequently, religious vocations demonstrate the Good Shepherds solicitude for his Flock.

FOURTH SUNDAY of EASTER Therefore, let us more clearly promote Christian

vocations—priesthood, religious life, marriage, and single life—by guiding our children and godchildren to seek first God’s will in their lives. Let us help them to hear God call by encouraging a strong prayer life. Let us deepen their love for Christ’s Church by our own activity in the parish and positive attitudes about the Church. Living, then, as Intentional Disciples, we not only faithfully follow the Lord, but also assist those closest to us to become Intentional Disciples themselves. When those Intentional Disciples hear and respond to the Shepherd’s voice to become priests or religious brothers or sisters, then his Flock receives this demonstration of the closeness of our Good Shepherd.

May the Lord continue shepherding us through holy priests and bishops and provide enough for the abundant harvest.

In the Love and Joy of our Risen Lord,

Fr. Allan F. Wolfe

The Good Shepherd Dear People and Friends of Saint Joseph’s,

Christ is Risen! Truly, He is Risen! Alleluia! Alleluia! The Lord Jesus has told us, “I am the Good Shepherd.” Never did he say that he was our King or our Ruler, because a king or a ruler functions from a position of power.

Notice the quality of the relationship between the Good Shepherd and the sheep:

"My sheep hear my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish.”

Priests, as co-workers with the bishops, assist the bishops in these all-important ways of shepherding. Deacons, configured to Christ the Servant, serve the Flock of Christ. Christ’s care for us continues in clear and concrete ways through the men God has chosen to be shepherds and servants of His flock.

Consequently, religious vocations demonstrate the Good Shepherd’s solicitude for his Flock.

Iconography

Iconography characterizes one major aspect of good, Catholic

architecture, giving visual form to some dimension of our Faith through

painting, sculpture, stain glass, and other sacred arts. More than mere

decoration, iconography embodies spiritual realities, inspires through

beauty, and edifies through

conveying truths that exceed words.

With the angels above our high

altar, the ceiling of our apse reminds

us of the heavenly liturgy in which

we participate at every Mass, giving

a visual depiction of what we hear in

the second reading today:

“I, John, looked and heard the voices of many angels who

surrounded the throne and the living creatures and the elders. They

were countless in number, and they cried out in a loud voice:

"Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power and riches, wisdom

and strength, honor and glory and blessing."

FLOWER SALE: The Social Justice Committee

is selling red, white, and pink carnations after Masses

TODAY for $1.00 each. Proceeds will benefit the

resource center.

model for defending the Faith and church reformation today. This is a

free event, open to the public and part of the Defense of the Faith Series.

THE AMERICAN RED CROSS BLOOD DRIVE: Due to a conflict the American Red Cross blood drive has been cancelled for May 18.

MAY IS NATIONAL FOSTER CARE MONTH:

We celebrate all the people who help children in foster

care, especially the foster parents who have opened

their hearts and homes to provide a safe place for chil-

dren in need. As the number of children entering foster

to help those children. For more information on how
