A Letter from our Director of Finance and OperationsDear St. Barnabas Parishioners,

We have some happy news to share.

St. Barnabas received the SBA Payback Protection Plan “PPP” loan of $524,400 on April 20, 2020.

There are still a lot of questions about how it all works. But so far, this is our understanding:

The SBA PPP loan is a ”forgivable” loan that accrues interest at 1 % per year.

Loan forgiveness is based off of an eight week period starting with April 20th and ending around June 15th.

The amount that is forgiven is contingent upon paying our current work force here at St. Barnabas like we normally would have done.

Up to 75% of the loan can be used for our payroll and payroll related expenses like health insurance, retirement, etc.

The other 25% can be used for our utilities.

Any amount of the loan that is not used or not forgiven will need to be paid back. Right now, the loan payments are scheduled to start in October or November 2020 and would be paid back by April 2022.

What does this mean for St. Barnabas?

Most importantly, acceptance of this loan does not jeopardize our mission as a Catholic parish and school. There are no restrictions being put on us regarding our Catholic faith.

St. Barnabas had already made the commitment to continue paying our teachers and staff regardless of what cash reserves that we needed to us to make this work. Payroll and payroll related costs make up 64% of our overall budget. So, this helps us to not have to tap into our cash reserves to do this.

Our tithing will continue to help with the other costs that are not covered by this loan like maintaining our facilities, continuation of preparing people to receive the sacraments, helping others in need, etc.

And, as this pandemic continues, these extra funds will help us weather any future downturns in our tithing.

So, you say, I don’t need to continue my tithing because we received this loan. This is not true. We need to continue to stay strong in our tithing. This loan helps us to cover any shortfalls in our tithing that we are experiencing now and for the next forseeable months. We have no idea what the rest of 2020 will bring.

We have been good stewards of everything that you have given to St. Barnabas for the past 55 years and we are committed to continuing for the next generations to come.

If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me at [email protected].

Thank you and stay safe and healthy!

St. Barnabas continue to pray for us!

An Act of Spiritual Communion

My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things,

and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment

receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart.

I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly

to You. Never permit me to be separated from You.

Amen.

THE MEMORARE

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known

that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought

thine intercession was left unaided.

Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins,

my mother; to thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful

and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions,

but in thy mercy hear and answer me.

Amen.

Outreach MinistryJust as parishioners are good stewards of their treasure and share that with the parish, the parish shares a portion of your gifts with the wider community in support of the social mission of the broader church.

Therefore, in the name of the St. Barnabas family, the Outreach Ministry recently made a donation to Grace on Wings. Grace on Wings is a non-profit organization that provides cost-effective airplane transport for individuals needing to travel for medical treatment but too medically fragile to tolerate ground transportation. While we assist to financially support Grace on Wings in their mission to show Christ love through aviation, let us also remember to keep them in our prayers. Grace on Wings is the only charity air ambulance service in the country that is licensed as an air ambulance provider.

In addition to Grace on Wings, the Outreach Ministry has made a donation to St. Elizabeth/ Coleman Pregnancy & Adoption Services in the name of our parish family. These funds will be used to purchase car seats for babies and toddlers served by the agency. The need for new car seats has increased because the hospitals no longer provide them to new moms. Throughout its history, St. Elizabeth/ Coleman has changed the lives of countless women and families, providing support and hope when they needed it the most.

If you would like to be a part of Outreach Ministry here at St. Barnabas, as we seek to reach outside the parish boundaries to help those in need, please contact Connie Merkel at [email protected]
