Hybrid IT has become a valuable option for IT teams in today’s era of the data-driven
enterprise. Hybrid IT enables organizations to leverage existing and new on-premises
infrastructure while taking advantage of the benefits of public cloud services. IT can
transition to the cloud where and when it makes sense, using a combination of Capex and
Opex models.
This hybrid approach is particularly attractive to companies that aren’t ready to embrace a
cloud-only strategy—which is most organizations. In fact, 63% of organizations are already
pursuing a hybrid IT model, according to research by the Harvard Business Review.1 With the
right hybrid IT solution, IT teams can significantly boost business continuity and close gaps
in Availability and data protection.
This is especially important in today’s era of exponential data growth, digital transformation
and the Always-On Enterprise™. More than 80% of organizations say they are unable to meet
the recovery capabilities of their business units when compared with SLA expectations. The
combination of Availability and protection gaps costs the average enterprise $21.8 million
every year, which is an untenable situation.2
By deploying modern solutions from HPE and Veeam, organizations can leverage both
primary and secondary storage to close these Availability and data protection gaps, while
also lowering costs, reducing complexity, mitigating risk and fostering innovation and
business agility.
Empowering the Data-Driven Enterprise
In today’s environment, data Availability is a business issue, not just an IT issue. Organizations
are creating more data than ever before. The global “datasphere” is expected to grow to 163
zettabytes (ZB) by 2025, more than 10 times the 12.1 ZB of data generated in 2016.3
It’s not just that data is growing exponentially in volume, velocity and variety; it’s also that
the most savvy organizations are putting their data to use, driving business-critical initiatives
around digital transformation, the Internet of Things, big data analytics, social media, agile
development and other data-driven activities that are changing the shape of business.
The shift to this type of data-driven enterprise puts pressure on IT teams to manage data
more strategically, efficiently and economically. That’s one of the reasons why so many IT
leaders are turning to hybrid IT. The reality is this: Whether your data is in the cloud or on
premises, at the end of the day it is your responsibility to protect it and ensure its Availability.
The same goes for your applications. If the business is down, it does you no good to point
fingers at a cloud provider and place blame.
With hybrid IT, you can assert control over data and applications, while still leveraging the
economics and agility of the public cloud. Beyond that, you can improve business continuity
with on-premises all-flash storage solutions that take advantage of snapshots, modern

In today’s environment, data Availability is a business issue, not just an IT issue.
Availability software and other technologies to shorten backup windows, ensure rapid
recovery and simplify disaster recovery. With the right solution, you can:
• Achieve instant/constant data Availability to meet the needs of the Always-On Enterprise.
• Address the need for economical storage, increased productivity and reduced complexity.
• Support on-premises and cloud models, including hybrid cloud/multi-cloud environments.
• Reduce risk by closing Availability and data protection gaps, including the ability to ensure rapid disaster recovery.
• Increase business agility and support key business capabilities such as agile application development and digital transformation.
What to Look for in a Solution
To truly empower the data-driven enterprise, you need a solution that combines best-
of-breed infrastructure hardware/software with best-of-breed Availability software. The
Availability software should be designed for highly virtualized cloud environments, and it
should work seamlessly with the infrastructure to support reduced management overhead.
You also want to ensure that the combined solution reduces overall IT complexity and makes
it easy and economical to create, store, manage, protect, secure, back up and recover data
across your entire IT environment—stretching from on-premises infrastructure to multiple
clouds, whether public, private or hybrid.
Key capabilities to look for include:
• Simple to deploy and manage, leveraging all-flash storage to meet the tier one performance and reliability requirements of modern applications, while also enabling major performance gains in secondary storage.
• All-flash primary storage as a tool to shorten backup windows, using backup and storage snapshots to leverage data and ensure guaranteed rapid recovery.
• The option to use hyper-converged infrastructure as an on-premises platform to alleviate management complexity, reduce costs and ensure tight integration between on-premises infrastructure and public cloud services.
• Granular recovery of VM contents in their native format, with built-in security protections against advanced cyber threats (such as ransomware), as well as multi-site data protection and replication to ensure rapid disaster recovery.
Choosing the Right Solution
By deploying a hybrid IT platform that delivers these capabilities, you can provide significant
value to the business—immediately and over the long term—while also reducing overhead
and ongoing operational tasks for the IT department. Overall, by leveraging hybrid IT
integrated with a modern data Availability and protection solution, you can:
