Energy efficiency is strongly linked to the energy costs incurred by households, which impacts the likelihood of being fuel poor.
If households require a greater amount of energy to run adequately, they will have higher fuel costs.
Heating a household to an adequate level is dependent on the energy efficiency of the dwelling.
As expected, households with a lower energy efficiency rating have a higher likelihood of being
fuel poor. However, some specific features of the dwelling will also affect the levels of fuel poverty.
According to the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy households constructed
with solid walls have a higher prevalence of fuel poverty compared to those with cavity walls.
Dwelling age is a good indicator of a property's wall construction, as older builds typically have solid
walls. Fuel poverty levels follow this pattern; with a higher proportion of fuel poor residents living
in older builds.

Mauer UK Ltd has developed and designed a unique external wall insulationsystem to address the challenges and obstacles faced in the current solidwall insulation market. Mauer manufacture this product within the UK.
External wall insulation is a solution for older homes which don't have cavity walls. External wall insulation
can make a property warmer, more weather-tight and should also help to reduce annual heating bills.
Our finished product looks and feels just like brick, is available in various brick and mortar colour options
and can be produced in bespoke patterns and sizes.
The system mechanics of the Mauer product not only make on-site installation viable within a 3-day
time frame, but also allow for its application in cold and wet conditions.
The Mauer system and delivery is anticipated to be at a cost approximately 50% lower than conventional
external wall insulation solutions, whilst providing a brick effect alternative to conventional render systems.
