I. Misunderstanding of Matt. 24Possibly the most misunderstood

chapter in the New Testament.Jesus was not speaking of events

which would happen in the 21st century.

When one tries to apply the first 34 verses to the end of world, it is a

serious misunderstanding!


I. Misunderstanding of Matt. 24The first 34 verses apply to the

destruction of Jerusalem and events dealing with it.

Jerusalem was destroyed in 70AD by the Roman army, under the

leadership of General Titus.

This verse reveals what He is talking about.

place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:)”



Mark 13:14“But when ye shall see the abomination

of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not,

(let him that readeth understand,) then let them that be in Judaea flee to the

mountains:”

“Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, and thy spoil shall be divided in the midst of thee. For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be

taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the

city.

Christians were told to flee into the mountains.

Why, If End Of World?



Matt. 24:16-18“Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains: Let him which is on

the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house: Neither let him which is in the field return back to

take his clothes.”

days! But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath

in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.”



Keep in mind what the Lord saidMatt. 24:34

Isa. 13:7-8“Therefore shall all hands be faint, and every man's heart shall melt: And they

shall be afraid: pangs and sorrows shall take hold of them; they shall be in

pain as a woman that travaileth: they shall be amazed one at another; their

faces shall be as flames.”

“Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to

lay the land desolate: and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it.”

This was speaking of the destruction of Jerusalem by Babylon’s army.
