Maths w/c 18.05.2020
This week you will be revising multiplication using arrays and your 2 and 5 times tables. Your lessons are linked to the Home Learning Activities for Year 2 at www.whiterosemaths.com. You are all amazing mathematicians, so I know that you will be able to do all the work However to help you there are some ‘Learning Reminder’ pages to look at along the way. Please note: If the links to the websites mentioned don’t work, please type them into your web browser.
What will you do this week?
Don’t forget to start your maths work with the ‘Daily Revision’ activities on pages 4 – 9. There are some Learning Reminders (pages 11- 13) and an activity to complete on page 14 to get you ready for this week’s work.
Lesson 1:Using the multiplication symbol- pages 15 - 18
Lesson 2: Using arrays- pages 19-28 There are some additional activities for you to try for this lesson
Lesson 3: 2 times table- pages 31-33
Lesson 4 : 5 times table– pages 34 - 36
Lesson 5: Odd and even numbers – pages 37 - 44
Daily Fluency and Recall Tasks
Try to learn your:
2 times table
5 times table
10 times table
3 x table
Challenge: Choose a number sentence from any
times table and write the fact family
e.g. 2 x5= 10 5x 2 = 10 10 ÷2 = 5 10÷5 =2
It’s really important that you practise your times tables every day as they will help you with lots of the maths you will meet in KS2.
Why not try Hit the button at https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-game/hit-the-button You could practise your number bonds, division facts and doubles/halves as well.
Daily Revision Monday
72 - 47= 85 - 58 = 11 x 2 = 120 ÷ 10 = ¾ of 12 =
These tasks help you to practise your skills and
then use them to solve word problems.

to help you get ready for lesson 1
Learning Reminders
Learning Reminders Three 2s Draw It Addition Multiplication
There are 3 equal groups
with 2 in each group.
2 + 2 + 2 = 6 3 x 2 = 6
Remember: multiplication is just a quick way of adding the same number again and again. The multiplication symbol x is used to write the number sentence.
Your Task Practise writing the repeated addition and the multiplication using the sheet on the next page.
Learning Reminders
Lesson 1 This lesson is all about using the multiplication symbol and linking multiplication and repeated addition. Watch the video at: White Rose Maths Home Learning Year 2 Click on Year 2 Summer Term 1 Week 5 Lesson 1 After you’ve watched the whole video, complete the tasks on pages 16 and 17.
Why not have a go at the ‘Take it Further’ activities on page 18?
Your Task 1 This should be done on paper
Take it Further This should be done on paper
Challenge: Create some matching repeated addition and multiplication sentences:
e.g. 3+3+3 +3= 4 x3
Lesson 2 This lesson is all about using arrays. There are some Learning Reminders to support your work on pages 20 -21. Watch the video at White Rose Maths Home Learning Year 2 Click on Year 2 Summer Term 1 Week 5 Lesson 2. After you’ve watched the whole video, complete the tasks on page 22 and 23. Why not have a go at the ‘additional tasks on pages 24 – 28.

2.How else could she arrange them? Use 12 counters to help you and write down how many ways you found altogether. 3. In how many ways can she arrange 15 cakes in an array? Do you think there will be more or fewer ways of arranging 15 cakes than of arranging 12 cakes? 4. Which number of cakes from 10 to 20 can be arranged in the most ways? Can bigger numbers of cakes always be arranged in more ways than smaller numbers? Can you think of a number of cakes between 20 and 30 that can only be arranged in two ways? Which numbers of cakes between 20 and 30 do you think could be arranged in lots of ways? Why?
Mrs. Multiple, the baker, has made 12 cup cakes. She is thinking how to arrange them in her shop window. She likes to arrange them in rectangles like this: In maths we call this an array. She could also arrange them like this:
A bit stuck? This should be done on paper
On Tuesday, Mrs. Multiple made 15 cakes, how could she arrange them in an array? It’s a larger number of cakes, so do you think there will be more or fewer ways to arrange them than with Monday’s 12 cakes? On Wednesday, Mrs. Multiple baked 19 cakes! Can she place these in one or more arrays?
What to do: On Monday, Mrs. Multiple, the baker, made 12 cup cakes. Rather than straight lines like this, she likes to arrange them in rectangles or arrays. How could she do it? Use counters to help you explore the arrays you can make with 12 cakes. Draw or write down what you discover.
Challenge Find which number of cakes from 10 to 20 can be arranged in the most ways. Which do you think it
might be?
A bit of fun This should be done on paper
What to do: Go on an adventure for real world arrays! Hunt for arrays in your home. For example, open a box of crayons and take a peek inside - you’ll find an array! Pull out a calculator – you’ll find an array! Remember, you CAN’T make your array out of something!!! It has to be an array you just happen to come across. Take a picture of your array – or draw and label it. Record the multiplication sentence to match your array. Can you record it in a different way? I’d love to see what you find, so please send examples of your work to me at [email protected]
Example The egg box array shows 6 x 2 = 12 2 x 6 = 12
