About our Maths activities
Mental Maths starters
These should be quick starters lasting about 5 minutes. When there are challenges you just need to choose one to complete.
Activities
We have included some different activities for each day. You can choose whether you would like to do the ‘Activity Time’ or the
Maths No Problem workbook pages if they have not already been completed.
We are currently working on Maths No Problem workbook 1A. Please do not use Maths No Problem workbook 1B yet.
Mental Maths StarterNumber bonds!
Remember a number bond is two numbers added together to make another number. Choose a number below and write down all of the pairs of numbers that make the number. E.g. if I choose 6 2 + 4 = 6 Choose your challenge, green, amber or red!

L.O – L.O – To recognise 2D shapes in our everyday environments
I can name 2D shapes
I can describe a 2D shape
I can find shapes around my house
How many different shapes can you spot in the picture?
Can you write the names of some of the shapes?
What can you tell me about these shapes?
How many sides and vertices do they have?
A vertice is the corner or ‘pointy’ part of the shape.
Challenge!What is different about a square and rectangle?
Can you name these shapes and say how many sides and vertices they have?
Activity Time!Go on a shape hunt around your house or outside. How many 2D shapes can you find?You can take some photos of the different shapes you find or draw them.
Challenge!Can you create a label for the shapes you find with: the name of the shape, how many sides and how many vertices?
Draw some 2D shapes to create a picture. Remember to label the shapes you use in your picture.
Extra challenge if you would like to complete more!Pages 143-145 in MNP book 1 – you can complete these in your workbook and take a photo to upload to Class Dojo.

Mental Maths StarterWrite all of the number facts you know about one of the numbers. They could be adding or subtracting. E.g. If I choose 12 I could write 4 + 8 = 12 and 12 – 4 = 8

I can explain how the shapes are grouped
Think of the different ways we can group these shapes.
There could be more than two groups that you split the shapes into.
Either write your ideas down or talk about your ideas with a family member.
One way we could sort them is by shape.

Can you name the shapes?
How have these shapes been grouped?
Activity Time!Have a look around your house for some 2D and 3D shapes. Use these shapes to sort into groups.
You can sort them in any way you would like. When you have sorted the shapes you can write how you decided to sort them.
Challenge!Can you write a name label for the shapes you have found.
How many different ways can you sort the shapes?
