Year : 5

Topic : Whole Number

Duration Time : 30 minutes.

Subject Content: Multiplication with the highest product of 100000.

Learning Outcomes: Solve multiplication problems.

Activities : Students create stories from a given multiplication number sentence. For example : 4000 X 10 = 40000 ( A company printed out 4000 copies of magazines per week, in 10 weeks 40000 copies were printed. )

Pose to students, problems in the form of tables, or pictures.

Moral Values: Be careful and alert.

Thinking Skills :

Teaching Aids : numbers cards, standard form to find the answer.

Phase Content Teaching and learning activities

Set induction

5 minutesPuzzle Teacher shows a puzzle, ask students to solve the puzzle using multiplication.

Step 1

5 minutesQuestion and find out the answerTeacher shows on the procedures for multiplication. Start multiplying from the ones, towards the bigger place value.

Step 2

8 minutesWrite number sentencesTeacher writes a multiplication problem.

Students say out the number sentence and write the number sentence on the board.Example :

There are 3 groups. Each group have 4 birds.

3X4 = 12.

There are 12 birds altogether.

Step 3

10 minutesCreate storiesTeacher asks students to work in groups of 6, and choose a leader.

Teacher then distributes a multiplication number sentence to each group.

Teacher asks the students to discuss about the stories they want to create according number sentence and write down in a piece of paper.

Leaders present their story created from the number sentences.
