Writing your own illustrated children’s math book

Directions

• Write a story about or involving mathematics. – (Example: Sir Cumference and

the Dragon of Pi)• Be creative with your language,

plot, and characters. – (Example: Lady Di of Ameter)

• Draw colorful pictures, use computer graphics, or find cutouts to go along with the story.

More Directions

• The story must be typed and be grammatically correct.

• You must use mathematics correctly in your story.

• Have fun!

Requirements

• Your book must have:– Cover art– Title page– Dedication– At least 10 pages of text– “About the Author” info

for the inside back cover– Solutions, if necessary– OR Summary of story for

back cover

First Deadline

• Tomorrow, May 4– Rubric must be signed by parent and

returned.– “About the Author” must be filled out and

returned.– Start thinking about your story

Next Deadline

• Friday, May 5– Story Map due

Weekend Assignment

• A story board of your story must be completed and handed in on MONDAY!

NEXT Deadline

• Peer Edit due by Wednesday, May 10.

• Get form from Mrs. Story.• Have a peer read your story and fill out

the form.• Turn in.

LAST Deadline

• Use the rubric and directions to make sure you have all pieces required.

• Turn in all pages in order, with your choice of construction paper, in the paper folder that you received at the beginning of this project.

• The book is due tomorrow by the end of the school day. You MAY turn it in before that, of course.
