Overview:WelcometoDistanceLearningMath081!Thiscourseiswebbasedandrequirestheuseofacomputerwithahigh-speedInternetconnection.Itisaself-studyprogramwiththecoursecontentbeingdeliveredthroughtheuseofonlinehomeworkassignments,instructionalvideosandquizzes.TherearetwotimesinthequarterwhenstudentsmustbephysicallypresentontheNorthSeattleCollegecampusforthe“paperandpencil”examsrequiredforthecourse.Theseexamsaremandatoryandareasfollows:Wednesday,February15,andTuesday,March21.Youmaytaketheexamanytimebeginningat4:30pm,butyoumustcompletetheexamby6:30pmonthedayofthetest.TheexamswillbeheldinroomCC3349.Otherthanthesetwodates,studentsworkoffcampusattheconvenienceoftheirowncomputer.

Schedule:ThiscoursebeginsonTuesday,January3andendsonTuesday,March21.Thecompletiondatesforhomeworkassignments,quizzesandoncampustestsarelistedonthe

coursecalendar.Paycloseattentiontothesedates.Tosucceedatthiscourse,youmustkeepupwiththeassignedwork.Homework:Youmustcompletethehomeworkassignmentsbythedateandtimelistedfortheassignment.Allchapterhomeworkassignmentsmustbecompletedpriortothechapterquizdate.Ahomeworkscoreof70%orgreatermustbeachievedonallassignments.Ifa70%orgreaterisnotachieved,thentheprogramwillnotallowyoutotakethechapterquiz.Iurgeyoutodoallhomeworkandquizzeswithouttheaideofacalculator,ascalculatorsarenotpermittedforthe1stoncampusexam.Supplies:Bringseveralpencilsandagooderaserfortheoncampustests.Cellphones:Foroncampustests,cellphonesneedtobeturnedoffandplacedfacedowninfrontofyou.Quizzes:Sevenonlinequizzeswillbegivenduringthequarter.Youcanonlytakethequizifyouhavecompletedallthesectionhomeworkassignmentsandthechapterreviewwithagradeof70%orgreater.Youmayaccesseachquizfor48hoursandwillhaveatimelimitof60minutesperquiz.Youhavetwochancestoenterthecorrectanswer.Ifyoutakeallsevenquizzes,thelowestscorewillbedropped.Thequizzesare15%ofyourfinalgrade.Tests:Studentsmustbepresentthedayatestisscheduled.Ifyouhaveanemergencyandareunabletomakethetest,youmustnotifymewithin24hourstoscheduleamake-uptime.Grading:Anoverallaverageof75%orgreaterisnecessarytoreceivea‘S’gradeandmeettheprerequisiteforcontinuingontothebeginningalgebrasequences.Thisisa5-creditcourseandisgradedas“Satisfactory”or“NoCredit”.Thefinalgradefortheclasswillbecomputedasfollows: Homework25% OnlineQuizzes15% OnCampusExams60%Withdrawalfromclass:Ifastudentwithdrawsfromtheclass,anofficialdropformmustbefilledoutbythestudentandsubmittedtotheRegister’sOffice.ThelastdaytowithdrawfromcoursesatNorthSeattleCollegeforWinterQuarter2017isFebruary24,2017.Tutoring:TutoringservicesareavailablethroughtheMathLearningCenter.InformationabouttheMathLearningCentercanbefoundathttp://webshare.northseattle.edu/MLC/PenaltyforCheating:Cheatinginanyformwillnotbetoleratedandwillresultinafailinggradeforthematerialforwhichthestudenthascommittedtheoffenseofcheating.Anystudentfoundtobecheatingonanexamwillreceivea“0”gradefortheexam.
