Sweet Corrosion - Mechanism

1 CO2 gas dissolves in water:

The process can be described as follows:

1. CO2 gas dissolves in water:CO2(g) = CO2(aq)

2 Production of carbonic acid:2. Production of carbonic acid:

CCO2(aq) + H2O → H2 CO3

3. Carbonic acid reacts with steel:
