  • SECTION 5: FIRE FIGHTING INFORMATION Flashpoint: 81°C Firefighting Instructions: small fire – use dry chemical powder; large fire – use water spray, fog or foam. Do not use water jet. SECTION 6: PREVENTIVE DATA Personal precautions: See first aid section. Small spill: absorb with an inert material and put the spilled material in an appropriate waste disposal unit. Large spill: As for a small spill. Finish cleaning by spreading water on the contaminated surface and allow to evacuate through the sanitary system. SECTION 7: HANDLING AND STORAGE Keep away from heat, from sources of ignition. Empty containers pose a fire risk, evaporate the residue under a fume hood. Keep away from incompatibles such as oxidizing agents, acids. Keep container tightly closed, in a well-ventilated area. SECTION 8: EXPOSURE CONTROLS, PERSONAL PROTECTION Use safety glasses. Avoid breathing in product by ensuring good ventilation when handling. Avoid skin contact by using chemical resistant gloves. SECTION 9: PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL PROPERTIES Appearance: Yellow liquid. Odour: Strong lemon-like odour. Solubility: insoluble in water; soluble in alcohol and oil Specific gravity @23°C 0.8820 – 0.8875 Optical rotation @ 23°C -2 to -4 deg C Refractive index @23degC 1.4750 – 1.4885 Solubility Soluble in alcohol; insoluble in water Extraction method steam distillation SECTION 10: STABILITY AND REACTIVITY Decomposition: No dangerous decomposition products known. Stability: Chemically stable. This product presents no significant reactivity hazard.

    SECTION 11: TOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATION Inhalation: Inhalation of high concentrations of vapour may result in irritation of eyes, nose and throat, headache, nausea, dizziness. Skin contact: Repeated contact can cause redness, irritation, and scaling of skin. Eye contact: May irritate eyes. Ingestion: Low order toxicity causing irritation of the stomach and intestines which results in nausea and vomiting. Carcinogenicity data: None of the components is listed as a carcinogen.
