BOUNCE BACK: The Dodgers continue their seven-game road trip
(2-1) tonight with the first of four games against the Pirates at PNC
Park. Los Angeles took two of three games from the Tigers to open
the trip, including yesterday’s 6-1 loss, which snapped the Dodgers’
six-game winning streak. Following the set in Pittsburgh, the
Dodgers return home for a brief three-game homestand against the
Brewers this weekend.
The Dodgers had their winning streak snapped yesterday,
but have been one of the best teams in the Divisional Era
(since 1969) at bouncing back after a loss:
MLB, Best Record After a Loss – Since 1969
1. 2005 St. Louis Cardinals 49-13 (.790)
2. 1995 Cleveland Indians 33-11 (.750)
3. 1993 Atlanta Braves 41-17 (.707)
4. 2017 Los Angeles Dodgers 24-10 (.706)
5t. 1970 Cincinnati Reds 42-18 (.700)
5t. 1976 Cincinnati Reds 42-18 (.700)
5t. 1998 Houston Astros 42-18 (.700)

After posting a National League-best 67-26 (.720) record
against the Pirates from 2001-13, the Dodgers have gone
just 8-15 (.348) against Pittsburgh since 2014, which
includes their three-game sweep of the Buccos May 8-10 at
Dodger Stadium.
STATS DON’T LIE: The Dodgers own the best record in baseball
with an 87-35 mark (.713), 12.0 games better than the Astros, and
also hold the best record in the NL through 122 games since the 1944
Cardinals (91-31, .746). Los Angeles holds a franchise-record high
20.0-game first-place lead.
The Dodgers have won 21 of their last 25 and have gone
52-10 since June 7, which is the best 62-game stretch in
franchise history and the best in the Majors since the 1912
N.Y. Giants, who last went 53-9 from April 16-July 4.
Los Angeles’ +215 run differential is the best in the Major
Leagues, 54 runs better than the Astros.
The Dodgers have posted a 36-21 record on the road this
season (.632), on pace for the best mark in LA history. The
top road marks in franchise history are held by the 1952 (51-
24, .680) and 1949 Brooklyn clubs (49-28, .636).
Los Angeles is unbeaten in its last 21 series since June 9,
posting an 18-0-3 series record in that span.
The Dodgers have won 37 consecutive games in which
they’ve scored four or more runs, with their last loss coming
on June 15 at Cleveland (L, 12-5). There have only been
three longer such streaks in MLB history, the 1954 Indians
(42), 1906 Giants (41) and 1898 Boston Beaneaters (38) –

GOOD WOOD: Alex Wood will make his 20th start of the season
tonight, after allowing just one run in 7.0 innings in a no-decision in
his last start Tuesday against the White Sox. It was his 12th start of
the season with one or fewer runs allowed, tying for the most such
starts in the Majors this year along with Clayton Kershaw, Gio
Gonzalez, Lance Lynn and Luis Severino – Source: Stats, LLC.
With 5.2 or more innings tonight, Wood would have
enough innings to qualify for the league leaders, where he’d
rank third with a 2.30 ERA, behind only Clayton Kershaw
(2.04) and Max Scherzer (2.25).
Wood struck out 11 in 5.0 scoreless innings and picked up
the win against Pittsburgh on May 8 at Dodger Stadium,
and has posted a 2-2 record with a 2.61 ERA (11 ER/38.0
IP) in seven career games (six starts) against the Pirates.
CODY-LOVE: Cody Bellinger is tied with Ryan Braun (2007) and
Walt Dropo (1950) for the 12th most home runs in a single season by
a rookie, one back of Hal Trosky (1934), Rudy York (1937), Ron
Kittle (1983), and Mike Piazza (1993), the latter of whom he is
chasing for the Dodger franchise rookie record. Despite being called
up on April 25, the All-Star first baseman/outfielder currently ranks
among the best in the National League in home runs (34, 2nd),
slugging percentage (.612, 4th), RBI (79, 14th) and OPS (.968, 7th).
Bellinger is day-to-day after suffering a mild right ankle
sprain Saturday.
PLAY THE HITS: Corey Seager enters tonight’s game riding a
nine-game hitting streak (13-for-38, .342), one shy of his season-best
10-game run July 5-20, and having hit safely in 14 of his last 15
games, batting .377 (23-for-61) with a .435 OBP, three doubles, a
homer and nine RBI since Aug. 3. Overall, he ranks among the NL
leaders in batting average (.308, 11th), doubles (30, T-5th) and OBP
(.394, 10th). Seager also ranks seventh in the NL with a .367 batting
average with RISP (29-for-79).
Justin Turner continues to top the NL with a .340 batting
average, while ranking second in OBP (.430) and 10th in
slugging percentage (.554).
Chris Taylor ranks fourth in the Majors with a .363 batting
average (45-for-124) in 31 games since the All-Star break,
while posting a .419 OBP with 11 doubles, four triples,
seven homers and 20 RBI in that span. Overall, Taylor, who
has excelled on the road this year with a .355 batting
average (61-for-172, 3rd MLB), ranks among the NL leaders
in batting average (.311, 10th), doubles (29, 8th) and OBP
(.383, 12th).
MILESTONE WATCH: Adrián González enters today’s game
with 1,998 career hits, and would become just the seventh Los
Angeles hitter to pick up his 2,000th hit in a Dodger uniform:

SIMPLY THE BEST: The Dodgers lead the Major Leagues with a
3.12 ERA, a 1.12 WHIP and a .224 opponents’ batting average,
while leading the NL in strikeouts (1,153). Los Angeles has also
walked the fewest batters in the bigs, issuing just 316 free passes.
Kenley Jansen leads NL relievers in WHIP (0.70), and
ranks among the league leaders in strikeouts (84, 2nd), saves
(33, 2nd) and opponents’ avg. (.168, 4th).
Luis Avilán has recorded 13 consecutive scoreless outings
(11.1 IP) since July 8.

time since being acquired by the Dodgers on July 31 in exchange for
a pair of minor leaguers. Watson was drafted by the Pirates in 2007,
