It is still unknown whether the group of friends attending this historic general meeting, in 1925, at Moira’s restaurant and drafting the articles of association –part of which you just read above- had the slightest idea of the history they were about to make. Their objective, in the words of Michalis Manouskos, was to establish a club that would inspire all Greeks. “Olympiacos” would be its name and a laurel-crowned adolescent its emblem.

Ultimately, Olympiacos grew to become something more than just a source of inspiration. It became the reason why destitute people could walk on the streets with their head high; with pride. It was more than their club, it represented their way of living. A club deriving from the people, for the people, with the people. Olympiacos is not just another club. Olympiacos is more than the game, more than the excitement, more than the victory. Olympiacos is a way of life. A role-model for those fighters in daily life, who never surrender and overcome all obstacles. Olympiacos is Olympian. Olympiacos is Greece, an Ideal, a Legend.

Born in Piraeus, the 2nd largest port in the Mediterranean. Praised in numerous songs: “Hard as I may look for, I find no other port like that”. Taking the Olympic Ideals around the world. Olympiacos is inspiration for Greeks. “You are magic in my mind”, as the chant goes.

The heritage is vast and calls the Legend to keep asking for more successes. It also calls for bestowing the Olympic Ideals to future generations. Olympiacos is a Legend. Our Olympic family. We are winners. We never stop. We never quit. We keep on dreaming!”

Today, in Piraeus, a club under the title

“Olympiacos Club of Piraeus Fans” is established

with its purpose being to develop physical education

amongst young people and to always promote it

in a sportsmanlike way.

A golden memberof the European elite

OLYMPIACOS

T his year’s European campaign of Olympiacos was really special, since the Legend registered some impressive UEFA Champions League nights in the

club’s 17th spell in the tournament.

Without doubt, the one in London stood out. The 2-3 away win over Arsenal at the Emirates represents a unique moment of glory for Greek double holders. The Piraeus outfit beat a football giant, Arsen Wenger’s squad, at home.

That was history in the making, since no other Greek team has ever won on English soil in the context of UEFA Champions League. But that wasn’t the only impressive deed of the Legend in this year’s European spell. No other Greek team has ever won 3 consecutive matches at the tournament’s group stage, two of which actually achieved away from home.

This year, Olympiacos beat Arsenal 3-2 in London for MD 2 and Dynamo twice, by 1-0 at Zagreb for MD 3 and by 2-1 at “G. Karaiskakis” for MD 4. Although the side did not make it to the next round and continued its spell in the UEFA Europa League, nonetheless history was made whatsoever. And once done, it cannot be undone. No one can wipe away the pride all our fans felt on those nights.

Besides, Olympiacos has been consistent once again; as the case has been for many years in a row, the side manages to live up to expectations, as a top European club. Afterall, Olympiacos is one of them; a great Greek club and, at the same time, an international club of global recognition.

«Right now (editor’s note: it is known that the two UEFA competitions are underway and reclassifications are possible) Olympiacos has 70,940 points and currently ranks 24th in the UEFA Club Ranking in Europe out of o total of 456 clubs! Olympiacos carries Greek Football on its shoulders, which would be much worse off if it were not for the points earned from Olympiacos. The consistency of the club in its European matches in the last 5 years is also undoubtedly impressive having collected 17,520, 10,880, 19,220, 12,240 and 11,080 points respectively.»

Football is a team sport and success comes only as a result of team effort. However, in order for the team

to excel and leave the pitch victorious, it must feature talented players. Olympiacos is proud of having many such players and, unquestionably, Kostas Fortounis is one of them. The 2015/16 season remains as the best, to date, of Olympiacos’ Greek midfielder who led the way to the side’s 43rd Championship Title. Let us check the achievements of our young (born in 16/10/1992), yet great, player

The Club Management, taking into account the current context, generously slashed down prices for season tickets and you responded as your heart dictated. You came even closer to the team by breaking the all-time record of season tickets sold in “G. Karaiskakis”. The total for this year which comes to an end is no less than 21,300. Second ranks the 2006/07 season with a total of 18,250 season tickets.

You even increased the Superleague ticket average; from 18,297 last year to 20,188. “Thank you all” seems to be not enough; yet it comes from our heart…

The Legendof Greek footballgoes to Harvard

T he Olympiacos-UNICEF alliance to help all people in need, especially children, grows stronger and

stronger. In this context, team players Brown Ideye and Arthur Masuaku paid a visit, on Tuesday 12/4, at the refugee reception center of Elaionas. They handed out balls, puzzle games, drawing paper, color pencils, stuffed animals, and all kinds of toys that may keep minors happy during their hardships away from home. Laughter and smiles lit the place up and our hearts and both Olympiacos players couldn’t help smiling as well, out of their happiness for being able to make those children cheerful even for a while. Thanks to the assistance of UNICEF people, both “red-and-white” stars handed out gifts and then did what they actually love the most: They played football with the children!

Soccer as a Global Phenomenon: will be co-hosted in Boston by Olympiacos, Harvard University and

Weatherhead Center for International Affairs, and will be an utterly… football conference! The Legend, representing – in any way – Greek football abroad, will cross the Atlantic once again and together with the prestigious University of Massachusetts, will deal with globalization as expressed through the most well-loved sports on the planet: Football!

Representatives of the Legend will be in Boston, where Harvard is, for three days and will contribute to the organization of this important conference, through presentations and more. The conference will focus on the spreading of football, the way it affects people and society and during its staging (in April) there will be many lectures, presentations, addresses and discussions about the «king of sports».

Reasonably enough, this huge humanitarian initiative by Olympiacos for the refugees could not go

unnoticed by the major news agencies and even the international media reported repeatedly on this important action by the Legend and its President Mr. Vangelis Marinakis. UK’s BBC, whose reach is global, actually gave the floor to Mr. Marinakis himself for an interview on BBC World Service.

Vangelis Marinakis on BBC about refugees

We keep on dreaminga better futurefor all people!

When asked about the reason why and the timing of his decision to get Olympiacos so actively involved in supporting refugees, he explained:“Olympiacos is always there to make a stand and support those in need; so, we had no second thoughts about catering for the refugees. Besides, this is what our Club’s philosophy and ethos dictates. Greece is currently going through a very tough economic crisis, as you all know. And Olympiacos has been the first to stand by the Greeks, since Olympiacos is something more than a football club.

The region of Piraeus is Olympiacos’ home ground. We felt it was our duty to provide for these people the care they could not secure for themselves. We provide them all we can. It is heartbreaking when you see children and entire families suffering. No one can remain indifferent or passive.

We will keep on offering as much as we can to those in need of our help. And as our Club motto proclaims: “WE KEEP ON DREAMING”... not just about our teams’ successes to come, but also for a better future for all”!

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

Ο lympiacos was born by the people and will always refer to them. Compassion and care for those

who suffer; ready to offer. So, it was no accident that Olympiacos has launched a series of significant humanitarian actions at the Port of Piraeus. Since March 4th, following Mr Vangelis Marinakis’ initiative; all actions taken, were driven by the Club’s psyche and mentality, that led to Olympiacos being a major provider of life support to refugees.

For many days, Olympiacos vans were arriving at Gates Ε1, Ε2 and Ε3 of the Port of Piraeus in order to distribute food to the people. On that very first day, more than 1,300 portions have been handed out to the distribution point, or by the Legend’s “hug of love”. March 4th was the first, yet not the last day, of offering food, since many more have followed. Day by day, the number of refugees who would find temporary shelter at the Port of Piraeus grew bigger; and as a result, day-by-day, Olympiacos’ offering also grew bigger. Food portions prepared daily at the kitchens of “G. Karaiskakis” rose from 1,300 to 1.500, and then to 2,000; and even more up to 3,200. Apart from food, Olympiacos

SUPPORTING THE ”FIGHT FOR LIFE“ OF REFUGEES Olympiacos means hope

started distributing clothing items. After more than 40 days of continuous offering, food portions exceeded 70,000, whereas clothing items and toys mounted to the staggering figure of 150,000.

Actually, there were also some of the Legend’s players who went to the Port. Firstly, it was two of our captains, Alejandro Dominguez and Roberto Jimenez, who did not hesitate a moment to step into…the battle and help, serving food to the people, and also played football with young children.

Then followed Hernani and Seba, who also visited the refugees in order to assist to the ongoing effort of food and clothing items distribution. Legend’s players didn’ t stop supporting the initiative. Next in line were Fortounis, Cambiasso, Milivojevic, Kapino, Kasami, Bouchalakis and Masuaku, who were present at the Port Gates, to participate as well in this match for life and love.

On May 2014, Piraeus turned the page and entered into a new era; one that is better and far more promising for the

biggest port of our country. Mr. Giannis Moralis was elected Mayor since the Piraeus electorate gave its overwhelming support to the ballot and the President of Olympiacos Mr. Vangelis Marinakis, was voted top member of the municipal council.

Olympiacos receives endless love from its fans and its heart beats in Piraeus where the club was born. The Legend returns this love to the city by means of projects already delivered and others in the pipeline that have been funded by Mr. Marinakis and Olympiacos FC.

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

Ο lympiacos is more than a club. Always loyal to its founding values and the Olympic Ideals. It contributes to the promotion of the spiritual role of

Greece and the establishment of the ideas and values of Olympism, Culture, Education and Sports on an international level.

The promotion and enhancement of the importance of the Olympic Education is a basic pillar in the management of Olympiacos social responsibility. The collaboration at this level with the International Olympic Academy, the spiritual pillar of the International Olympic Committee, based at Ancient Olympia, sets the foundation for a methodical approach to this direction.

The International Olympic Academy is the sole international institution of the Olympic Movement hosted in Greece. This international institution is expressly recognised by the Olympic Charter of the International Olympic Committee and nowadays is the main international educational and cultural institution in the framework of the International Olympic Committee.

Among the main objectives of the International Olympic Academy are the preservation and dissemination of the Olympic Spirit, the study and application of the educational and social values of Olympism, and the consolidation of the scientific basis of the Olympic Ideal. In this context, the International Olympic Academy is the reference point of 142 National Olympic Academies, develops educational programmes and publishes books.

In this respect, Olympiacos is the sponsor of the IOA. In particular, it is the sponsor of the Master’s Degree on

Olympic Studies, held at the facilities of the Academy in Ancient Olympia in cooperation with the University of Peloponnese and has been acknowledged as the unique educational programme on this subject worldwide.

In addition, to the same direction, Olympiacos sponsors the Hellenic Olympic Academy and contributes to the Panhellenic Educational Programme «FAIR PLAY» by contributing to the educational programmes of Olympic Education and Olympic Values.

The U-15 team will play against PAOK in the Super League Championship Final that will be played on Holy Tuesday in Ioannina. The other competitive divisions of the Academy also stand out in the tournaments they participate in, throughout Greece.

High-level services The members of the Academy teams (U-15, U-16, U-17, U-20) undergo several ergometric tests during the season that are very useful for the progress of players, whereas attention is paid, through the collaboration with a Physiotherapy and Recovery Centre, for the prevention of injuries and the force (increase) through special programmes applied in the gym.

Try-outs and scoutingDuring the year, over 1,500 children were tried out by the Olympiacos Academy at the Rentis Training Centre. Members of the scouting department check out players throughout Greece and the best of them become players of the competitive squads. It should be noted at this point, that the Olympiacos Network of Schools is for several years the main supplier of the Academy divisions, especially regarding players of younger ages. In 2011, the President and CEO of «THRYLOS SA» Mr Giorgos Pavlou integrated the Network of Schools with the Academy, and this collaboration is upgraded every year at all levels. The coaches of the Network of Schools use the annual coaching schedule of the Academy, whereas the Competitive Divisions play friendly matches against the Schools every week.

Olympiacos starring alsowhen it comes to Academies!

INVESTMENTS ON ALL LEVELSAND SUCCESS IN THE YOUTH DIVISIONS

The Academy of Olympiacos has made tremendous progress during the past years. From the very first day of the presidency of Mr Vangelis Marinakis in FC Olympiacos to this day, important investments have been made on the Academy that now holds a quite high position in Europe. Many Academy players are part of the first team of Olympiacos, whereas the Grassroots Divisions win titles and leave a very positive mark both in Greece and in Europe.

In the first teamOne of the great dreams of the President of FC Olympiacos, Mr Marinakis, is to man the first team with Greek players and footballers that have been part of the Academy of the club. This is a dream that became reality. Praxitelis Vouros, a young player who started playing at our Football School in Mytilene and then proceeded to the Olympiacos Academy, played this season in the UEFA Champions League at the Emirates match where our side achieved a historic victory. Kostas Tsimikas stuns with his appearances in the Championship as well as the Greek Cup, whereas Giannis Latsi and Giorgos Manthatis have also been given the opportunity to be part of the first team of Olympiacos. Lefteris Choutesiotis, who has been training with the A team for years, played in a Superleague match; and two more Academy players, Panagiotis Retsos and Dimitris Nikolaou, were also included in the pre-season preparation. Moreover, the Youth team captain Manolis Saliakas also has playing time as player of the first team. Mr Silva daily monitors the progress of the Academy players and gives opportunities to many players to train at a high level.

Heading for the titles The Grassroots Divisions are leaders in this season’s Super League Championships too. The Youth team (U-20) won the championship for the 2nd consecutive year by beating all records, whereas the U-17 team will play to win one more trophy in

Facilities and boarding house In the 2015/2016 season, the of Olympiacos Academy has 11 divisions (U-8 through U-20) counting 265 children, 39 of which stay at guest houses at the Rentis Training Centre. Olympiacos pays for the accommodation and food expenses for these children and for their education as well (school, foreign languages tuition, cultural activities). The children of the Academy have at their disposal their own state-of-the-art gym as well as four pitches in the Training Centre for their daily training sessions. In addition, the Academy has its own restaurant as well as education, seminar and entertainment halls.

The Arsenal fixture in London has been a historic one for the Legend since our line-up included Praxitelis Vouros, a player coming from our Academy

Champion benefits Throughout Greece, many football Academies choose to become part of the Network of Olympiacos’ Football Schools that offers its partners a series of value-adding services. One of the most basic benefits is the annual training seminar for the coaches of the Schools held in the Rentis Training Centre and organised by the Administration of the Olympiacos Academy. The members of the Network also enjoy seminars of Sports Psychology and Nutrition, as well as ergometric tests. Another significant benefit is the participation to the Championship of Attica Schools, concluded every May in Rentis.

Connection with Academy, first teamThe Academy coaches visit the Schools and train select divisions, and at the same time inspect many children that are tried out in the Academy! A big percentage of these children man the Academy teams, in particular as regards the ages between 8 and 13. We should mention the name of Praxitelis Vouros who started in the School of Mytilene, made it to the first team and played in a UEFA Champions League match, whereas Stathis Lambrou from the School of Chalkida played in the Youth League.

Social responsibility, summer campSchools are not only about football. Olympiacos strives to offer education-training to the children of the Schools, to

International legendary network! Over 7,000 children attend the Olympiacos Football Schools

Τhe Network of Olympiacos Football Schools has been running for fifteen years and is the oldest and most developed network in Greece and one of the best ones in Europe. Olympiacos has 44 Schools in Greece (37),

Cyprus (5) and United States (2) and this number keeps rising since the Club offers the most complete services and benefits to the members of the Network that now numbers over 7,000 children.

contribute to their socialisation and to raise their awareness on a wide variety of social issues. In this framework, organised visits are made to institutions in Greece, Cyprus, and the United States throughout the year. These visits are held following the wish of Mr Vangelis Marinakis and are combined with the financial assistance of Olympiacos FC. Every year, for the past 15 years, Olympiacos organises in its Training Centre a «Summer Camp» with the participation of children of all ages from several countries of the world and of course from Greece.

OLYMPIACOS

Ο lympiacos is not just a sports club; it’s about competition winning and leadership in sports. This is why the club was born and raised for; to excel and outdo all others Not just within the Hellenic borders. It turns

out that Greece is pretty small for the club’s grandeur. The Legend excels in various sports at European level. This explains the multitude of European and other trophies on display. Let’s go for a journey down memory lane, to recover some of those unique moments.

We “painted” Europered-and-white

24-4-1997:“IN ROME FOR THE FINAL” FIBA EUROLEAGUE

Olympiacos’ presence in the Tel-Aviv and Zaragoza Final-4 series helped the club in establishing its name amongst Europe’s superpowers; in Rome, it was time for the Legend to be crowned king. After a semi-final win over Olympia Ljubljana, they beat Barcelona 73-58 at the Final-4 final with Rivers setting the tone and Sigalas, Fassoulas, Tomic and Tarlac following up strong. A season of pure magic and “triple crown” glory.

10-3-1996: OUR FIRST TITLEIN VOLLEYBALL

In 1992, Olympiacos had sent an initial, yet resounding, message across Europe by making it to the final against Ravena. On the day of the club’s birthday in 1996, the Legend won its first European volleyball title, making thus its message crystal clear. After a breathtaking final, our squad beat 3-2 Bayern Wuppertal and was crowned Europe’s Cup winner.

12-3-2005: A VOLLEYBALLCUP WINNER ONCE AGAIN

Olympiacos was now a top club in European volleyball and that was reaffirmed in 2005 with another title brought home. The Top Teams Cup, former CEV Cup, was again painted in red-and-white for the Piraeus-based outfit, following an easy 3-0 win over Ortec Nesselande at the SEF.

25-5-2002:A SUPERPOWER IN WATER POLO

Olympiacos march to the top of European water polo was a strategic achievement; it took great effort, pain and planning. And as such, our club’s debut in a men’s water polo Champions League Final, against Dubrovnik, had the best follow-up that could be. One year later, in 2002, our squad… emerged at the top; following a 9-7 victory over mighty Honved, Olympiacos was also crowned king of water polo.

13-5-2012:A COMEBACK FROM -19 TO HEAVENS

There are some matches engraved in the fans’ minds and souls and written in history in never-fading letters; this particular one belongs to this category. Olympiacos was trailing by 19 points against CSSKA during the Istanbul Euroleague final. Printezis’ layup at 0.7 seconds from the buzzer (final score 62-61) sent millions of Olympiacos’ fans to heavens.

8-9-1963:FOOTBALL BALKANS CUP

In 1963, Olympiacos became the first Greek club to win an international title, that being the Balkans Cup, which, at the time, represented a huge success. A set of strong teams even for European standards lined up against Olympiacos. This tournament used to feature every year the runners-up of Balkan domestic championships. Olympiacos, having finished 2nd in the year 1960-61, won the right to play in the 2nd Balkans Cup that started in 1961 and ended in 1963. The first leg of the final was played against Levski Sofia in Piraeus and ended with a 1-0 victory thanks to a Sideris goal. The second leg was a defeat of 1-0 in Sofia. On September 18 1963, it was time for the tiebreaker. At Istanbul’s Mithatpasa Stadium, Olympiacos won again 1-0 with a Stefanakos goal in the 88th minute.

29-12-2002:THE LEGEND CLINCHES THE SUPER CUP

2002 was a dream year for our men’s water polo team. Following our European championship title in May, Olympiacos also conquered the Super Cup, late December, after 6-5 win over Hungarian Vasas at the final, hosted in fact in Budapest. The team managed to win all 4 titles in which it competed in that year: bringing home the domestic double but also the Champions League and Super Cup titles abroad.

4-12-2006: INTERNATIONAL ACCLAIM ALSO IN WRESTLING

Olympiacos has also received international distinctions in Greco-Roman wrestling. Our club’s athletes won top spot at the Cela Cup held in the Serbian town of Zrenjanin. Their Victory of 4-2 against Croatian Vidija brought the title home.

20-11-2015:A BOW TO OUR SUPER-CHAMPION LADIES

After the European championship, it was time for the LEN Super Cup for the girls of Olympiacos. Thanks to a stunning display in the pool, they smashed mighty Padova by 10-6, proving that they are, by far, Europe’s top team with a 3rd European title won within 20 days’ time!

25-4-2015: AT THE EUROPEAN TOP

The “red-and-white” mermaids are now an international water-polo powerhouse, as also reaffirmed during 2015. Following the Len Trophy title, our ladies were crowned European Champions following a 10-9 win against waterpolo superpower Sabadell.

6-10-2013:AN INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPION!

Olympiacos has been crowned European champion 3 times, but they also made it to the top of the world. In2013, following a two-game series against Brazilian Pineiros, our squad grabbed this impressive title. We won both Sao Paulo fixtures by 81-70 and 86-69.

5-4-2014: MERMAIDS OF GOLD

Besides a male water-polo power train, Olympiacos boasts of a women’s team second to none. Coached by Harris Pavlidis, the “red-and-whites” won the LEN Trophy. In the semi-final they beat 8-5 Russian KinefKirishi and took the final against Italian Firenze by 10-9.

12-5-2013: BACK2BACK FOR THE LEGEND

Olympiacos, according to some experts, was no favorite for a second consecutive title, this time in London. Yet, for the second time in a row, the squad excelled against all odds. This time, our opponent at the final was Real Madrid. The Legend delivered a stunning comeback and won its 2nd consecutive European Championship following an imposing display (100-88).

The… Olympiacos Games 2016!

Athletes who have already qualified

Almost half the Greek Olympic delegation will consist of Olympiacos

athletes/coaches!

Once again, Olympiacos attends the biggest sports meeting of the world

2016 is an Olympic year. The biggest sports event in the world, the Olympic Games, born in Greece, will take place this summer (from August 5 to 21) in Rio De Janeiro, the Brazilian megacity of 6.5 million inhabitants.

Olympiacos could not be absent from this great celebration. The club that carries the spirit of Olympic Games in its gene; a Club that became Legend in the course of decades thanks to its distinctions in various disciplines, not just in football. Besides, the founders of Olympiacos built this organization according to the Olympic ideals.

Specific reference is made in its charter, dated March 10th 1925, in “developing physical education of the youth and promoting it in all sportsmanlike ways”, as well as in “creating athletic establishments of all kinds”. An announcement is included about “organizing all sea-related sports actions”.

Its emblem could do nothing else but personify -in some way- the Olympic Games. The adolescent who is being crowned victorious and humbly bows the head to receive the prize; merely, a wreath of laurel leaves.

During the Olympic Games of ancient times, the prize used to be a wreath, namely a crown made of wild olive branches (kotinos). The adolescent of Olympiacos bears a laurel wreath that was considered an extremely honoring symbol and praise for a victory or particular performance achieved by the honored person in a sports event or some other competition of specific importance.

Ancient Greeks used to esteem laurel as a key plant. They believed that it symbolized repentance, as well as both corporal and moral redemption. Laurel wreaths symbolize peace; geometrically, it is a circle standing for eternity. A laurel’s evergreen leaves symbolizes eternity and immortality. So, the laurel wreath became the symbol

Athletes/coaches representing the Olympiacos red-and-white flag in Rio, as well as their countries, will be quite numerous. 20 Greek and 5 international athletes of Greece’s top sports club have already secured a place in Rio next

August for the biggest athletic event. In total, 25 individuals from 4 different disciplines (note: swimming, rowing, water-polo and fencing) will strive for the best in the Olympic Games. It goes without saying that warmest wishes coming from millions of Greek and Olympiacos fans will accompany them.

of acclaimed success, top performance, victory, fame and priesthood in ancient Greeks and Romans, in general.

So, Olympiacos will be present in Rio. Its athletes are expected to attend and represent almost half of the Greek delegation! They will all be there to honor both the Greek flag (note: just like our foreign athletes will do so for their own countries), and the red-and-white one of Olympiacos.

ON THEIR WAY TO QUALIFY

A n already big part of the national delegation to the Rio Olympic Games will bear the Olympiacos emblem. Namely, almost half of it. However, the number might get even bigger along the way, since many athletes from various

disciplines are currently trying to meet entry standards for this great sports meeting. Another 22 Greek athletes from 8 disciplines will do their best to qualify for the Olympic Games. They will do their utmost to excel, although, certainly, taking part in the Olympics is per se the greatest honor for an athlete.

The 2013-14 season proved to be better as Estoril finished in 4thplace with 15 wins, nine draws and only six defeats, again achieving qualification to the UEFA Europa League, this time straight to the group stage. His achievement at Estoril led to his appointment as head coach at Sporting Lisbon ahead of the 2014-15 season. In his only season in charge of Sporting he led the club to a third-place finish in the league just behind champions Benfica and 2nd-placed Porto, losing only two games against Porto and Vitória de Guimarães.

HISTORY

According to the club’s official page, AEL Kalloni FC was founded on May 15th 1994 following a merger between Apollonas Dafnion and Arisvaios Kallonis. It was since the 2007/08 season when the club started rising to success and moving beyond those narrow boundaries set by local football divisions; the club was looking forward to playing in major leagues.

Moreover, one reads at the Kalloni FC’s official site: “In the 2009/10 season, while competing in the 9th group of the 4th Division, AELK revealed themselves to be a pleasant surprise for their fans. Their fighting squad and the champion’s mentality of the team became the key to success for playing in the 3rd Division”. In fact, next year (2010/11), “thanks to the impetus gained in the previous season, the team of Kalloni finished second and played in Football League (Second Division)”.

In its debut season in Football League (2011/12), AELK features one of the division’s mightiest rosters led by Luciano de Souza in the first round and guided by Giannis Mantzourakis –with “Luci” in assistant duties– in the second, climbs to 6th place in regular season and takes part in the play-off series for Superleague promotion. At the playoffs, the original objective set by FC President Nikos Michalakis at the beginning of the season, the squad finished 3rd and so finally earns 5th position in the championship. That has been a successful year for the club and, in general, for football in the island of Lesvos, laying thus the ground for better things in the future.

In 2012/13, AELK was made to fulfil its single goal, to get promoted to Super League. Mpampis Tenne’s arrival at the helm on January 1st 2013 boosted AELK for an impressive undefeated streak that lasted long. Numbers speak for themselves (best championship defense and least number of home defeats), so Kalloni celebrated in its last match against Olympiacos Volou –the Final, as it was called– the club’s direct promotion to Super League, for the first time in the history of the club and Lesvos football”.

Kalloni’s first year (2013/14) in Super League was marked by an extreme paradox, since the club was forced to play actually all 34 championship fixtures away from home, since its stadium was not ready to host matches. Nevertheless, the club remained in history. Last year (2014/15), the Mytilene Municipal Stadium finally opened its gates and the team plays before its own fans.
