SHAPES OF BOTH TEAMS Liverpool : 1-4-3( 1-2) - 3 Watford : 1-4-4-2 Lieverpool Attacking Shape and Style of Play ( 1-4-3(1-2)-3 Liverpool play a quick counter attack style of play. Look to exploit spaces with quick transition to attack by having players up in advanced positions. Clyne and Milner play in high positions as fullbacks in the offensive half and provide the width and are dangerous in creating overloads on the wings. Lallana playing # 10 drifts from left to right and once recieves the ball is quick to move the ball forward with penetrating runs, passes\crosses behind the defenders. Mane , Coutihno and Firmino are fluid ,not necessarily occupying their positions but moving and rotating which makes it difficult for the defenders to mark them. Watford’s Attacking Shape and Style of Play? 1-4-4-2 Watford play through the units with difficulty due to Liverpools counterpress. Watford play centrally and try to play the ball into Deeney and Ighalo . Watford is finding it challenging to build any successful attack due to Liverpool pressure to gain possesion . Key Players for Liverpool ? Coutinho has been threatening in and around the penalty area, quick runs behind defenders and accurate shots at goal. Lallana quick pace and tranisition to attack, with penetrating runs and passes\crosses behind the back 4. Hendreson providing good cover and pressure centrally. Liverpool Defending Shape and Style? Liverpool shape chnages from a 1-4-5-1 to 1-4-3(1-2)-3 (2-1) . Counterpressing and quick transition to counter attack. If they don’t recover the ball in quick enough time Liverpool with organize into defensive shape and remain compact. Watford Defending Shape and Style? Watford defending shape is a 1-4-4-2 . Watford like to press high up the field which leaves space behind , Watford is not well covered when pressing . Score at Half Time: Liverpool : 3 Watford : 0

Shape of both Teams: Liverpool : 1-4-3-(1-2)-3 Watford : 1-3-5-2 Liverpool Attacking Shape and Style of Play? Liverpool continue playing a quick counter attack style. Liverpool play a positive attacking play with forward runs and passes to get bodies in front of the ball. Seldom do Liverpool make negative passes to place and organize an attack. Again we see players like Lallana, Firmino and Mane unmark their men and make runs into open space to drag defenders out and create space for teammates. Milner & Clyne play high in the offensive 1/3 to stretch out Watford which gives space in the central area to play ball through the gaps. We also see Milner and Clyne play centrally in the off 1/3 to create 2v1, 3v2 to get in behind the Watford Back line. Watford Attacking Shape and Style of Play? Watford changed shape to 1-3-5-2. With 5 in the mid unit, pressumably would have more control in the midfield to organize an attack and counter the press Liverpool are putting. Watford try to build through the 1/3’s but still having difficulty with the Pressing Liverpool Style. Key Players for Liverpool ? Lallana with Quick pace and transisiton to attack. Firmino , Mane and Coutihno’s movement into the spaces behind the Waford back line to create goals. Henderson defensive ability to read the game and anticipate balls and launch a quick counter attack. Score at Full Time: Liverpool : 6 Watford : 1

Liverpool is a counter pressing team. Closest players to the ball carrier constantly apply pressure to win the ball and quickly attack goal. When in possession or out of possession, Liverpool’s strategy is to counter attack or to counterpress for the quick transition to attack. Liverpool will press high in the offensive 1/3 of the pitch just as they will press in their defensive 1/3 which at times may leave them vulnerable because of the gaps created if they are not well covered. In defensive half , Liverpool interchange from a 1-4-3-3 shape to 1-4-5-1. In the defensive 1/3 , Can or Henderson will drop and fill in the gaps between the back line when Watford has stretched the back line to wide Watford try to build through the 1/3, but are unsuccessful due to the constant press from Liverpool, which leads to a quick transition to attack into Watford defensive 1/3.

Liverpool play a counter attack style of offense. Liverpool look to attack an unbalanced defensive Watford with quick tranisiton into attack. On winning possesion of the ball we see many bodies making forward runs into spaces , possesion of the ball is positive with many forward runs and passes. Liverpool like to attack with many bodies in front of the ball. We see the natural talent of Coutihno with his balanced technique ( left, right ) and spatial awareness to get behind the oppents to score and create goals. Firmino fast pace and ability to get unmarked to drag defenders out of postion and create space for himself and his team to attack. Lallana ability to recognize when and where to make penetrating runs and passes. Lallana also dictates the pace of the attack.

On loss of possesion , Liverpool would work to win the ball back imediately with the closest players pressing the ball carrier and return into the attacking moment. In offensive 1/3 Clyne and Milner will pop in to create a numeric superiority and create 2v1\3v2 situations centrally or in wide areas to get behind the lines.
